Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

On second thought - going to sim preseason.

Forgot how messed up Madden's preseason is - especially now with no UDFAs.

I mean, Ivory at WR? Not rotating the WR right (Criner should be playing), then the CPU get Jones-Drew against backups? WTF?

Will report the injuries and stuff like I did last preseason and the result of the position battles.

      Overview

Terrelle Pryor and Denarius Moore look sharp again. Moore had a very strong preseason and is looking to build on last year. Pryor is slowly making progress and is still playing with heart.

The running game continues to be a question mark. NONE of the three HB really did well. McFadden might have done the best, but that isn't saying a lot. Ivory will start, but the team will be on the hunt for a HB from the looks of things. Either now or come draft time.

Rookie RG Cale Welsh was somewhat underwhelming. Perhaps it's a matter of adjusting to the NFL, but he wasn't exciting.

DE Quinterrius Fields is probably going to start, but his low stamina will have Lamarr Houston rotating in. This might not be a bad thing as Houston is hardly a slouch.

DE Matt Shaughnessy, however, looked bad. He was not able to collapse the edge like Seymour did when he was playing RE. With Seymour out, Shaughnessy is going to have to step up.

MLB Jake Olsen is climbing fast. He secured his starting spot at outside linebacker and is taking direct aim at Rolando McClain. "I will be starting mike backer by the end of the year. Watch, " Olsen spoke after a game.

For now, CB Paris Cooper will be the nickle CB over Joselio Hanson. The team is likely to run more zone in the nickle packages to utilize Cooper...but Hanson also favors zone and is a bit better in man...

      Rumors

Free agent DT Donata Peko is looking attractive and may be targeted by the Raiders...

Darren McFadden may be a fixture on the trade block, yet the team hasn't given much indication of what they are looking for...speculation is either for a power back of near ability or high draft picks.

On my raiders franchise shaughnessy has 5 sacks in 2 games. It really seems like no two franchises are the same.

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

          Quinterrius' Domain
Rookie Defensive End Debuts With Three Sacks
as Offense is Methodical, Win 34-24

The defense and even the pass rush was very streaky. Even Fields, with his dominating day showed that. However, in the end, the defense did enough and the offense was in rhythm for the win in the home opener.

Fields racked up 2 sacks in the first quarter as he came out with a ton of emotion. The whole team did, getting out to a quick 20-0 lead halfway through the second quarter.

Then things hit a lull on both sides of the ball. Brock Osweiler, the Broncos' young QB, did not wilt under the pressure. That pressure started getting lighter as either the Broncos adjusted their protections or the Raiders were just not finding success. He led the Broncos to 17 unanswered points.

But then the Raiders offense got it going again. The run game continued to be iffy so Pryor took things into his own hands, using the short pass to get series started and then get rhythm going. He was able to spread the ball around, something he's not had the luxury of doing, further keeping the coverage off balance.

Still, Denarius Moore got the ball when it counted most. He scored 2 TDs. Marcel Reece took a pass 46 yards for the other of Pryor's touchdowns. Reece was also a target from the TE spot all game, showing a good comfort level with the responsibility.

Ivory scored a rushing TD, but still showed inconsistency. He got the ball 29 times but mustered just 87 yards. McFadden started getting mixed in and started looking like he wanted his starting job back. He only got 4 carries, but looked like the powerful speed back that he is.

Olsen's first day was impressive, too. He picked up 8 tackles and a sack. McClain grabbed 8 tackles as well. For the most part, the 46 defense showed promise as well as the pass defenses in the playbook. For a while, they had Osweiler looking confused as the team was able to mix zone and man coverage with some blitzes.

In all, the various combinations along with the emotional energy, combined for 7 sacks on the day, many of them in the first two quarters.

"We did some good things, and there's some things to work on, but I like our level of play overall, " Coach Lyle spoke.

          Notes:
Rookie TE Marcus Harper suffered a concussion during the game, but was cleared to play in this week's contest...Jake Olsen continues to impress scouts...he seems serious about dethroning McClain...McFadden remains on the block, but coach Lyle remains unimpressed by the offers, saying, "They must think we're ******** desperate. Third round picks will NOT get McFadden. Ever." McFadden signing an extension with the team certainly helps bargaining position...

          Contract News:
          Negotiations have begun with Reece.

Raiders extend HB Darren McFadden for 4 yrs, $15.9 M.
Raiders extend K Sebastian Janikowski for 2 yrs, $9.2 M.
Raiders extend P Shane Lechler for 1 yr, $3.5 M.

Rams extend HB Stephen Jackson for 6 yrs, $48.0 M.
Texans extend LB Brian Cushing for 6 yrs, $48.0 M.
Giants extend DE Justin Tuck, for 5 yrs, $53.0 M.

          Scouting News:
Top prospect on the team's board, HB Steven Grant, suffered an ankle injury. The team is trying to get updated information. Should he drop in the scouts' eyes, HB Santez McKenzie will move up the team's draft board...

WR D'Andre Ware is catching notice for his ball skills, but scouts already see he'll need to work on his route running...

G's Rasheem Oliver and Aaryn DePriest are getting some looks for their run blocking ability. Oliver is more well-rounded in his technique, while DePriest is more of a power blocker at the moment...

Come on Moore! You've got to be 50% of the Palmer's passing yards.

              33% isn't good enough

                Rainy, Muddy, Domination
                Wasn't Pretty, But Effective.
Balanced Attack, Tough D Wins 37-9

This won't be one of Oakland's prettiest wins. Pryor completed just 45% of his passes. Team lost two fumbles and got no turnovers. Peterson kept poking away and broke an 80-yard run.

But the pass rush was again effective, with rookie Fields again leading the way. This put the clamps on David Garrard for much of the game.

On the offensive side, the ground game worked a two-headed monster approach and it seemed to have some success. Ivory picked up a TD on a decent day of running, picking up 69 yards on 17 carries. McFadden got 15 carries for 57 yards, but many of those came later - either the defense was too tired or he found his rhythm as the game went on.

The passing attack was spread out. Mike Williams actually led in receptions and yards until Moore hooked up with his QB for a 64-yd TD. Marcel Reece picked up 52 yards and a score. Marcus Harper had a couple receptions in the game.

Defensively, Peterson got his yards on the ground, and a few as a receiver, but for the most part, there was no room for the passing game to take hold. Olsen continues his solid play, picking up a sack and 7 tackles. McClain and Ash picked up 6 tackles.

Aside from the 80-yard run, Peterson was relatively contained, 83 yards gained on his other 22 carries. Gararrd got things going later, but it wasn't nearly enough.

The decreased production from McClain is somewhat concerning, but perhaps it is just the other linebackers actually doing some work. Perhaps it's the switch to the 46, which acts more like a 3-4 in some cases with the way Branch plays at the line and sometimes Mitchell in the Big Nickle.

There's been no decrease in production for Fields. He's gotten 5 sacks in these two games. The concern for him is injury, a common theme amongst the team. He left the game twice with injuries, but returned each time.

The Raiders have looked solid on their two home games to start the year, but will face a stiff test as they go on the road to face the Patriots, who have to be frustrated at their 0-2 start.

                Contract News:
FB/TE Marcel Reece signed an extension: 4 yrs, $16.8 M

Matt Ryan (ATL), Greg Jones (JAX), Osi Umenyiora (NYG) all rejected offers, sources say. Justin Smith was re-signed by the 49ers this week (6 yrs, $56 M), as was Jared Allen by the Vikings (6 yrs, $68 M) and Justin Babineaux of the Falcons (5 yrs, $25.5 M).

                Injury News:

Richard Seymour was cleared to play and should start this week. Terrance Newman broke his finger in the game against the Vikings, but is expected to start this week against the Patriots.

Elsewhere, the major injury is to Darrelle Revis as he is expected to be out for the year. Charles Woodson is out for a couple weeks.

You mention you wish that x team would put x player on the trade block. Is there someplace you can go to see all the players on the block for each team that I am not seeing?

Perhaps you are merely referring to the proposals that come your way from other teams via "My Actions"?

Perhaps you are merely referring to the proposals that come your way from other teams via "My Actions"?
Yeah, when a player is put on the block, they'll show up in My Actions - that's what I'm talking about. I know of no other way to see players for trade.

I hate seeing Brady retire. I'm nervous about that happening to me too..

The part about Fields at the combine had me laughing. So it's back to the 4-3?

Very entertaining offseason. Looks like a solid draft. Love the idea of moving Reece to TE.
Now do you know why I traded away Brady in my Dynasty? I've been hearing way too many times that Brady retires after year one...

Do you give the CPU the generic play books or are you rolling with the team specific default books?

I bet Ray Lewis does too. He did in M12 - every single time.

I use team specific for the CPU teams.

Seems like the CPU play calling has been pretty good after glancing through some of your box scores.

I have been using the generics, due to the issues detailed on these boards regarding play calling. I may revert back - as from what I'm reading lately - this does not seem to be as serious an issue any longer.

There's quite a few guys who do have issues, but I never did for whatever reason.

I don't know if it's because I started in 1.03 while other guys from had some from earlier patches or what. Lots of guesses as to why myself and some other guys lucked out, but nothing definitive.
