McClain is looking real good. I've noticed my LB's don't get much XP either. Even the only one who consistently gets tackles. Maybe it has more to do with their development rating?

Pryor did surprisingly well. Have you given Taiwan Jones a test drive out of the backfield? He could be pretty deadly in M12, but I haven't used him in 13.

Yeah, I don't know if the Falcons DBs were cold or what (Moore was hot - guess he was feeling good getting 7 balls against Bailey), but it just worked. I was pleasantly surprised and stayed with him. His AWR and consistency is crap so I don't want to have to throw 47 times with him every week.

Jones might get the call if Howling can't get it in gear this week. McFadden will be out one more week after this game, so Jones can audition as starter then for a possible stint as #2.

Yeah, McClain is coming alive. I guess a couple points in AWR and PRC work wonders.

In an effort to shore up the pass coverage, Tyvon Branch is moving to CB #2 while Mike Mitchell, a hard hitter, takes over the SS role.

"Branch is better in man coverage, but how often do safeties get to cover in man? By making out three main corners Bartell, Branch, and Spencer, we can go with a man coverage scheme and all three will be comfortable with it, " Coach Lyle spoke.

Jacoby Ford is said to be in the slot WR spot in the depth chart while Bey gets another shot at being the #2.

Hah - the real life Raiders cut Curry today.

See, Curry? Even the real Raiders don't want you.

              MJD Runs Wild
However, Raiders Stand Strong Amid Injuries, Ground Assault.
              Pryor Gets Win #1, 35-21

The Raiders had no answers for Maurice Jones-Drew. The Jaguars' halfback ran for 7.9 yards per carry on 28 carries, netting a whopping 222 yards on the day, but somehow, just 1 TD. Still, he gave the Raiders all kinds of fits and the young, raw linebackers just were no match, especially when they started getting hurt, two of them seriously enough to miss multiple weeks.

Fortunately, MJD was the only thing the Jags got going. The maligned Raiders' secondary might have found a few answers by simply moving Tyvon Branch to cornerback. The Raiders stuck to a man-coverage scheme for most of the day, and it worked.

Henne completed just 16 of 31 passes for 168 yards. He threw 1 TD and 2 INTs. Lyle dailed up pressures from the linebackers as well, netting four sacks on the day. Rookie linebacker Miles Burris had two sacks while Wheeler and Seymour picked up one each.

Rolando McClain racked up 15 tackles, marking the fourth game in a row where he notched at least 10 tackles. The young MLB is liking the increased responsibility he's having. OLB Philip Wheeler is also looking better of late, getting more involved in plays.

Offensively, Terrelle Pryor had another solid game. He threw for 270 yards, again leaning heavily on Denarius Moore, and picked up 2 TDs and this time avoided the interception. Pryor completed 58% of his passes.

The Raiders used a backfield timeshare in this one, giving Taiwan Jones his first shot out of the backfield. He wasn't stellar, but ran hard, picking up 3.8 yards per carry and 2 TDs. Howling was a non-factor in this one, and Jones started getting more of the carries as time went on.

Denarius Moore followed up his insane game last week with another gem. He put up 176 yards on 10 receptions, including on a nice throw in the back corner of the end zone for a TD. Heyward-Bey showed up at least picking up 60 yards on 4 receptions.

The win got the Raiders back to .500 at 3-3, one game behind the division leading Chargers. The Raiders face the arch rival Chiefs, who are 2-4, next week at Arrowhead Stadium.

The scouting activity of the team has gone largely unnoticed, but there are reports that OLB Cedric Robins out of Oklahoma is getting a lot of looks from team scouts.

"From what I'm hearing, they are giving him a B to B+ in his ability to diagnose plays. Some are pegging him with around an 80-85 grade in the skill. That is something that will be prized by the Raiders, " Todd McShay spoke.

Chris Mortensen reported, "The Raiders are gushing over the raw physical ability of Cortney Callender from Nevada. We know how this organization feels about pure athletes, so you can bet Callender will get more scouting time as the season progresses. Early thoughts are that he will go high in the 2nd round, so the Raiders might be targeting him as their first round selection at this point."

CB Sam Woodfaulk has also been attracting attention for his physical prowess on the field.

Comeback Kid: Terrelle Pryor Rallies Raiders
Pryor's moxie wills Raiders to shock Chiefs with
                  24-point 4th quarter, win 38-31

Pryor scanning the field for one of his 4 touchdowns

Terrelle Pryor is starting to take the league by storm. His amazing rally, both individually as well as his team, is making fans and media take notice. Skip Bayless is trying to downplay the success of Pryor, forgetting the fact that it was an amazing game, regardless of any future success or failure.

Early on, it looked like Pryor would have his first tough game. He was firing at only 40% and had 1 TD vs 2 INTs. It was the first time he looked out of sync with his receivers, and the Chiefs were doing a good job on Denarius Moore, his favorite target.

The Raiders were down 24-14 after three quarters and the Aarowhead faithful were getting lathered up, usually a death knell for the road team. Pryor threw his second pick as Marcel Reese made no effort to fight for a tight pass in traffic. That lead to a Joseph Addai scamper for a score a few plays later (Charles was knocked out by new acquisition Greg Jones, something the Chiefs were saying was a dirty shot). Several Raiders were on the sidelines looking dejected. Pryor went to his offense and offered encouragement.

"I just wanted the guys to know that, you know, I wasn't giving up. I would keep fighting and I asked them to fight with me, " Pryor commented after the game.

Down 31-14 and with no momentum, Pryor started a drive. He worked the ball down the field and Taiwan Jones started finding rhythm in the run game. Coach Lyle started calling more outside runs to get the Chiefs to have to play chase-and-tackle defense, hoping to tire them out and make the corners and safeties expend energy on tackles.

Pryor then went to the air, looking for Moore. He found him on a deep pass that's become a staple of their budding chemistry. Later in the drive, he found Moore in the end zone for his 2nd TD of the day, and Pryor's 3rd.

Still, the Raiders were down 31-21. The Raiders would add a FG, keyed by a sideline throw to Brenden Meyers. The Chiefs punted the ball back with their possession, and Pryor and Moore went to work again.

Moore ran a nifty slant route behind Flowers and Pryor saw the same read and zipped a strike to Moore before Flowers could get his head around and defense the pass. Moore sprinted into the open field and all the chasing of Taiwan Jones started to show effects. Moore outran the defense for a 69-yard catch and run to tie the game with under 2:00 left.

The game looked like it might go to overtime, if the Raiders could hold. That was something the defense hadn't done much of all game. Pryor was seen psyching up the defense, trying to get them going and McClain was joining in, elevating the emotion. Once the kickoff was finished, the unit charged onto the field. A Kansas City penalty backed the Chiefs up, adding more spark to the defense.

"I told them we can do this. Let's dig deep and get it back one more time. We stiffened in the second half, coach let us go all out and knock some heads and we started making them timid, " McClain spoke, "We were ready and were determined."

The Chiefs got off to a good start, however. McNabb had all day to throw and found Hillis on a long pass to get the Chiefs close to midfield. Going back to the man pressure look, coach Lyle dialed up a safety blitz. The Chiefs had a screen on, but Huff recovered in time to use his position behind the offensive linemen out to set the screen.

Seeing the chance to make a play, McClain came in behind Huff to rally to the football. Addai fended off Huff, but McClain was there with a big hit to surprise Addai. The ball came loose and Huff scooped and headed upfield, looking for the defensive score. Huff came up short, but he set the offensive up in beautiful position.

Huff and McClain combine on key turnover late in the 4th quarter.

On the ensuing play, the Raiders planned to just play safe and force the timeouts out the Chiefs' hands. However, the offensive line had greater aspirations, blowing a hole open on the draw play and Taiwan Jones followed Wisniewski into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown.

Taiwan Jones picks up first rushing TD on the day
late in the game to give Raiders their first lead since they
led 7-3 in the second quarter.

From there, the Chiefs were in desperation mode, but the pass coverage stood firm. The Chiefs did get some yardage, but it wasn't enough. The Raiders needed one more first down to ice the game on offense, and got it when the fresh legs of Stephens-Howling found his way to the first down marker on an 11-yard inside run. Pryor kneeled on the ball to seal the victory.

                    Raiders First Half Report

                    Coach's Comment:
"We've put together some exciting games and a winning record in the first half. In general, I am pleased at how the team is progressing and fighting each week. However, we have work to do. There are issues that need resolving and we must continue to work hard. There is no letting up in the NFL, and the AFC West in particular is a tough place to compete. We must stay vigilant and ensure Raider Nation is well-represented whenever we are called upon to take the field." --Ander Lyle, Head Coach

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

                      No Magic This Time
                      Defense Fails, Offense Stumbles,
                      Raiders Lose 27-14

The Raiders just seemed to lack emotion in this game. Hardly anything worked well or consistently, and it showed on the scoreboard. The run defense continues to get manhandled as this time Doug Martin ran over the Raiders with ease. Rolando McClain is the only one consistently making any kind of plays.

The pass rush is not getting anything done either. Andre Carter has severely cooled from his hot start and it's showing up. Michael Huff managed a sack on a safety blitz, and it is apparent that the Raiders are going to have to dial up blitzes from here on out and hope they are effective. The lack of good zone coverage defenders doesn't help as the team can only do some much to mix coverages. This was evident on one play where Ron Bartell got completely lost. If Freeman could have made a better throw, that would have been a TD instead of "just" a 53-yard completion.

The only half decent thing that happened defensively was McClain. He forced another fumble and racked up over 10 tackles again. He's trying his best to keep the defense solvent, but he's still young and can only do so much.

Offensively, Pryor was off the mark again, perhaps cooling back down to where his level of ability really lies. Still, he didn't throw an interception and did manage a TD to Darren McFadden in garbage time. Heyward-Bey showed up again, but Denarius Moore was merely mortal in this one.

The run game continues to struggle. The offensive line gets little push and the TE are terrible at blocking. When they do block well, most of the time it's because they held. Sam Baker is also disappointing at RT, and Cooper Carlisle just looks overmatched against any decent defensive tackle.

"It's frustrating, but games like this show us we have much work to do, " Coach Lyle spoke, "It identifies our weakness. Our job is to learn from the experience."

One thing has happened is that the Raiders are starting to turn their attention to the offensive line in scouting, looking for prospect to identify for their potential draft board. The team may also make some roster moves to try to find some answers in free agency.

The loss puts the Raiders at 4-4 on the season. The team has lost 4 of 6 since starting 2-0. The slumping run defense now has Ray Rice and the capable running game of the Ravens on the schedule - not exactly a confidence-boosting match up. The game as at Baltimore as well.

I'm grooming him with the EXP he gets to be the starter if he keeps performing. I've stopped scouting QBs because of this. If he falters, I'll start scouting again, but I think he's the starter the rest of the year regardless.

Been working on his awareness and accuracy to keep helping him out. Also am sitting on like 16K EXP on Moore - trying to decide what to do with it.

                              Raiders Lose Heartbreaker
Ravens Win 23-20 on Last Second Kick

The Raiders knew they were in for a hard-hitting fight, and that's what was delivered. Unfortunately, the Raiders also made a few more mistakes, and that cost them the game.

This time, leaning on Pryor's arm was not effective as the young QB suffered his first poor showing of the season. He threw 2 INTs and no TDs in this one. The offensive line didn't help, giving up sacks and pressure for much of the game, and the running game continues to falter and contribute little.

Defensively, the team was solid. Even the run defense had positive moments. Take away the one long run Rice broke, he put up 84 yards on 22 carries, just a 3.8 yards per carry average. McClain knocked Rice out of the game, which also forced his second fumble of the day. Tim Hightower came in relief, and was contained...except for one key run...

The Raiders got out to a 10-0 lead. Ron Bartell picked off a Flacco pass, and McClain hit Flacco to get a strip sack which newcomer Terrance Newman took to the house. Newman also got a sack on the corner blitz.

However, the Raiders offense could do nothing on it's own. Pryor got little protection and no help from his receivers. Heyward-Bey dropped some would be 1st downs and Webb was covering up Moore pretty well. The running game was useless as well - leading to no points for the next two quarters.

The Ravens were moving, though it was an effort for them as well. One positive for the defense is that they held the Ravens to one 3rd down conversion in 10 attempts. That did a lot to keep the Raiders in the game.

Still, the Ravens led 20-10 in the 4th quarter. The Raider offense found some room and drove down the field. McFadden finished the drive with an 11-yd run for a TD. Later, the offense got into Janikowski range, and he delivered on a 55-yd FG to tie.

The game looked like it would go to overtime. Pryor had thrown his second INT, trying to hit Heyward-Bey, who had an awful game, as Pollard attacked the ball and Bey did not.

Looked like that would do no harm in the end, but Hightower managed his best run to get the Ravens in FG range with just 0:05 left. The kick went through, and the Ravens won the game.

"This one was my fault. I made that terrible throw, trying to get a big play to spark the team, but I forced it and shouldn't have done it. The defense was playing its heart out and I stabbed them in the back, " Pryor spoke.

Pryor may feel the game is his fault, but in the locker room, Lyle called for a meeting with just the offensive linemen, letting the rest of the team go home. Lyle ripped into his linemen and the jist was that there may well be some changes if the play doesn't pick up. "It can't be any worse than what most of you are doing" is part of what was said...at least what was printable.

The loss puts the Raiders under .500 at 4-5 and the team has just not looked right at all. For all the complaining about Palmer, Pryor is 2-3 as a starter, although the offense does have more spark under Pryor's command. The defense is the real problem. The defensive line can't stop anyone, the pass rush has disappeared, and the linebackers are having to blitz too often, and even then, that's only marginally effective. McClain continue to be the only LB really being consistent. Bartell is making plays mostly because he's being picked on continuously by QBs. Tyvon Branch is rarely attacked since moving to corner.

Have been working on that through the season - he's up to 84 now. I spent a little (he had nearly 20K after last game) on +1 AWR and +1 RLS to get both of those to 80.
