Raiders News
The Raiders find themselves in 2nd place as the Broncos start hot at 3-0. The Chiefs and Chargers are 1-2. The team is likely to abandon the hybrid defense, or at least the traditional concept. The team will likely get creative with it's linebackers to get them on the field.
The linebackers will need to be on the ball. The run-and-gun Panthers are up next.
Raiders' Next Game: Panthers (1-2) @ Raiders (2-1)
Raiders Injury Report | ||
Pos | Player | Injury Note |
RE | Keiwone Walters | Out 4 weeks (ruptured disk) |
CB | Patrick Peterson | Out 1 week (abdominal tear) |
LB | Davarius Bullock | Out 1 week (abdominal tear) |
The Raiders welcome Jared Veldheer back and look forward to getting both Peterson and Bullock back next week.
Roster News:
Veldheer's return takes care of left tackle. This makes for an interesting decision for coach Lyle at right tackle. Otto Freese has continued to be something of a disappointment, but he may well represent the best talent. If nothing else, Freese should help in pass protection, but his run blocking remains a question mark.
The team may have to consider a trade once the trading deadline nears if someone doesn't emerge as reliable.
An interesting dynamic is occurring in regards to backing up Bull Griggs. C.J. Spiller has slowly been working into more of the workload, hoping that his "change of pace" from Griggs can help mix things up. So far, neither Caulder nor Spiller are really showing impressively. With the line back intact, though, both backups will probably get "do overs" in regards to making an impression.
Another issue is Reece playing TE. The team has stuck with it, but one wonders if that's not having some impact on the running game. He's not been on the receiving end of passes very much as well. The 'experiment' may end this week as the offense looks for some rhythm.
Defensively, Tevin Ash will start at RE this week as the team will go with the 4-3 and maybe some 46 as well. Once Bullock returns next week, would he become the other defensive end, allowing the Raiders to get all five talented linebackers on the field in the 4-man fronts?

Scouting News:
Texas LT Jeremy Crane caught scouts' attention this week with his ability to flatten defenders at the point of attack. He uses his arms well and has a reasonably developed technique that should do the job at the next level. Blitz reads are an issue, and a defense that uses a lot of pre-snap movement causes him to lose focus and commit silly pre-snap penalties.
The team also looked the fullbacks on the board and came away completely unimpressed. The one punter listed, Curtis Truesdale out of Arizona State, also didn't impress scouts very much.
