Re: Tulane Football: "From Worst to First"

        2017 Schedule Released

Pay It Forward, Honor Roll games on docket; No LSU again

The Honor Roll & Pay It Forward series kick off in 2017, with Tulane matching up in one of each. Tulane matches up with in-state rival Louisiana Tech in the Pay It Forward Game, and this year's season opener may be viewed as a tune-up game for the Wave, with the Bulldogs not bringing an impressive roster to the table. For the Honor Roll Game, the Wave take a trip out west to Palo Alto, CA for a matchup with the 15th-ranked Stanford Cardinal, Tulane's first West Coast visit in the Willingham era.

The Wave & archrival LSU have vowed to renew their "heated" series in 2018, but because the two were unable to schedule each other this year, Tulane has decided to schedule a second matchup with Boston College, with the Eagles this time visiting New Orleans.

Other than that, 7 home games are on the schedule for this year, as Tulane wants to boost its per-game attendance and home-field advantage. With attendance averaging just over 15,000 in the 5 years Kaelyn Willingham has been coach, Tulane hopes the extra game will entice more people to come cheer on their team.

        Tulane Green Wave 2013 Schedule
        DATEOPPONENTRESULT
Aug 26vs Louisiana Tech Bulldogs ("Pay It Forward Game")
        Sep 2vs Central Florida Knights
Sep 9at #15 Stanford Cardinal ("Honor Roll Series")
        Sep 14vs Memphis Tigers
        Sep 23vs Houston Cougars
        Sep 30at South Florida Bulls
        Oct 7at Temple Owls
        Oct 12at UConn Huskies
        Oct 21vs SMU Mustangs
        Oct 28at Cincinnati Bearcats
        Nov 18vs Boston College Eagles
        Dec 2vs East Carolina Pirates

        Predictions
Once again, a schedule in which all the games are winnable. The difference this year has to be that this year's team has to avoid playing the role of choke artist like last year's team. The American looks to be a solid conference this year, but if they do their jobs, they have the manpower to win every game on their schedule. But realistically speaking, anything from 8 to 10 wins would be considered a successful season. Anything less than 8, it may be a disappointment.

            Shawn Henry: This Year's 93

Shawn Henry in the Fall Game.

After the discussions of Coach Willingham & former Tulane QB Devin Powell, the Wave announced at this year's Fall Banquet that the recipient of this year's 93 Award will be RB Shawn Henry. Shawn won the award for his work in teaching inner-city 1st-graders how to read.

Henry: "It's an honor to receive the award this year. I love working with kids. I hope to someday become a schoolteacher. It's nice to get recognized for doing good in life."

The 93 Award was created last season by Coach Willingham after learning about the determination of the Tulane student body following Hurricane Katrina. Devin Powell was the inaugural recipient of the award, and in doing so got to wear jersey #93 for the 2016 season. After last season ended, Powell & Willingham convened to discuss who would be this year's winner. To them, the decision was obvious.

Devin Powell: "It was an honor for me to get to wear 93 last season. And in thinking about who would be this year's recipient, [Shawn] Henry's name stuck out."

Willingham: "Shawn epitomizes the type of young man we want in our society today. Hard-working men who lead by example, and pay it forward."

Henry was honored with the award at the annual Tulane Fall Banquet, and will wear #93 for the 2017 season. He will also be honored at halftime of this year's Pay It Forward Game vs. Louisiana Tech. #93 Jerseys will go on sale this week.

                Game Notes
The Wave come into this game with a clean slate after last year's disappointing 4-8 campaign. They hope to get some early mojo going, as Willingham-coached teams have struggled to get going in the early season. Hopefully this year's matchup with the lowly Bulldogs will be just what the doctor ordered. Both teams come into the game with new QB's under the helm, but Louisiana Tech also has to hail in a new rushing attack, as well as a makeshift offensive line & new starters on defense. if they don't get it clicking early in this one, it will be easy goings for what was one of the nation's best offenses last year in Tulane. For the Wave, expect them to attack early and attack often. They want to see who will handle the under-center duties the best, and they also want to begin establishing themselves as a physical defense. But first they have to actually do it. It should be an entertaining one, but don't expect it to be close. At least the national exposure will be good for both teams...

                Tulane's Ratings: 89 OVR, 89 OFF, 84 DEF
                Louisiana Tech's Ratings: 71 OVR, 75 OFF, 67 DEF

                Kirk Herbstreit picks: TULANE

Good luck this year, hopefully you can bounce back from a rough 4-8 campaign. Hopefully you can beat fellow Louisiana team Louisiana Tech.

In your Pay It Forward game, no matter what, remember to KCCO and all will be good.

                                So get this.

I played the LA Tech game early this week, and played a great one. Only to have the game go into an infinite loop in the loading screen to the main menu. So much for that.

Anyway, I was gonna sim the game this time, but decided instead to play it over again. Long story short, gonna get 2 games in today. And perhaps a lot of updates.
