Re: UNF Ospreys Football: The Newest Addition to the Sunshine State
uhhh...ok...friggin' OUCH. That second quarter was a dagger straight through the heart. Good gravy man, I know a win wasn't expected but thats still rough.
Couldn't have been anything other than frustrating on the sticks, even when you expect it.
PS I'm intrigued about how the players jovial attitude is going to be handled by the coaching staff...Man... if I was play calling on defense I would've quit right after that second quarter. Our players couldn't stop the option at all. On offense I just wanted to score so at least I wouldn't get shutout. Only good thing about that game is that I finally realized a major problem with our run game which is our tight end's blocking - dude got ran over like fives.
And yeah, expect some storylines regarding the program soon
Exactly what I was thinking. I really hope we even get around to getting that win this season.. I scheduled North Texas believing it'd be a less competive game but even they'll be tough, entering this game undefeated with road wins over Texas and Indiana. UConn is our best shot at a win this season.Damn son, that first win is gonna be so much more gratifying now that you have that loss though. Gotta feel the bad to appreciate the good right? You'll see soon what happens with that player-coaching situationLast edited by beast10; 02-19-2016, 12:20 PM.Comment

Re: UNF Ospreys Football: The Newest Addition to the Sunshine State
Just out of curiosity, do you guys like the layout I'm running with? Particularity the game recaps? I ask because I did a lot of testing earlier with HTML (putting in schedule, headers, conference standings) and it actually looked really good but then one thing led to another and the whole thing was ruined and I had no clue how to fix it-- the bad thing with HTML. So I just dropped it all.
What do you guys think? Any advice is appreciated.Comment

looks good to me. I used to know a decent amount of HTML, and it very very slowly comes back to me. Your presentation is crisp and clean, yet not too complex. A Lot of guys on here wind up with really busy looking posts, and its hard to focus and read them.Just out of curiosity, do you guys like the layout I'm running with? Particularity the game recaps? Serious Allegations Aimed Against UNF Football Coach
Oct. 9, 2016
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bad news is abrupt in Jacksonville as the NCAA has aired an investigation on North Florida University football head coach, Brian Jenkins. The case is seeking out potential violations made by the coach who UNF hired on staff in 2015 for their inaugural season following Jenkins' five year tenure at Bethune-Coookman.
Brian Jenkins
Apparently, a long list of unreported allegations began at BCU. In the past month, the Montgomery Advertiser was contacted by, or made contact with, more than a dozen former players and four former coaches from the school in Daytona Beach, Florida.
With one exception, they independently provided nearly identical details of rules violations and what they felt was Jenkins' mistreatment of players.
Allegations against Jenkins and his program include:
- Improper benefits provided to players
Issac Virgin, a South Florida transfer, might have been ineligible when he played against South Carolina State. South Florida hadn't released his transcript because he owed some $250 on his student account leading up to the next game against Miami, Virgin said.
"Coach Jenkins gave me the money, I got in a car with a grad assistant and we drove to Tampa to get my transcript," he said. "The rest of the team got on the bus [for Miami.] I got in this private car and went to Tampa. When we got it, we drove to Miami and I played in the game."
- Improper housing arrangements
There were other rules issues, as well, most of them dealing with unusual housing situations that consistently left players scrambling to find a place to live, and on at least three occasions resulted in various players being left homeless for extended periods.
- Continued and extensive violations of the NCAA weekly practice time limits
According to three coaches, who spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of being "blackballed" from the coaching profession, Jenkins routinely violated limits on both the total hours practiced per week and on the number of consecutive days with contact.
NCAA rules dictate that teams cannot practice more than 20 hours per week during the season, can practice no more than four hours per day and players must be given at least one day off per week.
Former Bethune-Cookman offensive lineman Blake Pritchard said the team was made to practice well over the allowed limits of 20 hours per week and four hours in a day.
"We were going 26 to 28 hours, easy, every week," said Pritchard, who played in 2011 and 2012.
This is an allegation that's found its way to UNF as well. Sources close to the football team have reported that the players are being overworked, sometimes practicing three times a day.
Despite the evident neglect, 11 BCU football players transferred over to UNF following the hiring of Jenkins. Those student-athletes are, however, rumored to have been a key reason for UNF's 72-0 shutout loss to Clemson last Saturday. Although the chances of winning were slim, reports say the game was "agreed to be thrown" by a unanimous team vote presented by UNF team captains, all but one being the former BCU players. Reasoning is subjected as protest towards the practice violations.
The lead is supported, as just two days before the Clemson game UNF players were said to have held an early morning players-only meeting which Jenkins went fully unaware of, not finding out about the meeting until receiving a phone interview by local media outlets that had captured the story.
Prior to Jenkins' departure in December of 2014 from BCU, officials there had conducted an investigation into a number of allegations, and Assistant Athletic Director Tony O'Neal, who wouldn't answer questions about the investigation, said, "Anything that needed to be reported (to the conference and NCAA) was reported."
UNF Athletic Director Lee Moon said he was aware of the investigation and the incidents that prompted it, and he said he knew of the allegations reported to the NCAA.
"If it's true — and we don't know if it is or not right now — we'd have to act," Moon said. "But if there are NCAA issues out there, we'll have to wait and see what comes of them and make a decision."
Jenkins compiled a 46-14 overall record and won Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors three times in five seasons at Bethune-Cookman. The contract UNF trustees approved on last year slated an annual $700,000 salary which totals in slightly less than the average of FBS head coaches. Through six games at the helm of the UNF position, Jenkins is currently 0-5, hosting both the NCAA's worst offense and defense.
Numerous attempts to reach Jenkins on his cellphone and through UNF's sports information department were unsuccessful.

Re: UNF Ospreys Football: The Newest Addition to the Sunshine State
And suddenly...the meeting and game make much more sense. No one wants to play for a crabby, overbearing coach. It'll be interesting to see how all of this plays out, as it'll clearly reach a boiling point the longer the program goes without a win.
Could they pull a "Sonoma" and fire their first head coach after just one trial season? Certainly if allegations against him are true, the NCAA may go lighter on a punishment for UNF if the coach is let go.
Does he turn his ways around and win the support of his plays? Does he provide enough hope for UNF to keep him, even if they get docked scholarships?
Damn you, I'm hooked.Comment

UNF Players Won’t Play, Practice until Coach is Removed
Oct. 10, 2016
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — North Florida University football players announced Saturday night on Twitter that they will not participate in team activities until their head coach Brian Jenkins either resigns or is fired from position.
Brian Jenkins
The statement was tweeted out by several members of the football team, including all 11 members who formerly played under Jenkins at Bethune-Cookman before transferring to UNF.
The move comes just a day after the NCAA launched an investigation on Jenkins for potential violations made at not only North Florida, but also BCU where the coach tenured from 2010-2014.
The message reads: “We, the players of UNF, officially proclaim here that we will not continue to play under Coach Jenkins. The vast majority of us have agreed on this; we won’t return to practice or participate in games until he’s fired or resigns. We (Bethune-Cookman transfers) were firm believers of Jenkins’ forgiving word during his farewell speech at BCU, he encouraged us to transfer and we did. Through the last couple of months, nothing about Jenkins has changed and the violating acts he performs will no longer be tolerated by us as a team.”
The tweet was first posted by Jarrett Gaines, a former All-MAEC linebacker at BCU. As stated, numerous retweets united with the boycott.
North Florida last played Saturday on the road, losing 72-0 to Clemson to fall to 0-5 on the season. The Ospreys have seven more games scheduled, including a home showing this Saturday against North Texas (4-0) which could turn out to have an unusual lineup for UNF if Jenkins isn’t removed from position.
Brian Jenkins is currently in year two of his contract that expires in 2018. The head coach has been accused of numerous violations having to do with NCAA weekly practice limits, player benefits, mistreatment, and most recently a discovered threatening case while still at BCU.

Okay cool, I'm glad you guys like the layout. I will be sticking with it... and we'll see how the whole investigations turns out.
thanks for leaving comment RedRaider, much appreciated man. We're realllllyyy struggling right now so when we finally start seeing success later on down the line it's going to be a great feeling.
Most of the off-field storylines I write will have effects in the future. I've got a scenario planned but I will have to think a bit, as well as play out the NCAA-given verdict. Glad you liked that post man, stay tuned! And suddenly...the meeting and game make much more sense. No one wants to play for a crabby, overbearing coach. - Three or more players may be removed from redshirt for UNF in place of the absence of boycotting teammates
- North Florida is recovering from a 72-0 loss to Clemson last week
- North Texas enters this game following a bye week of extended preparation
Season Hits- UNF will face off against four programs that ranked inside the Top-25 in this year's Preseason Polls
- Caleb Poinsette will join Miami University's Austin Holmes as the only two quarterbacks in FBS to start as true freshmen
- Brian Jenkins, UNF head coach and director of football operations, is coaching the Ospreys after leading Bethune-Cookman to a 46–14 record through four seasons from 2010-2014
- UNF lost their first ever football game 30-7 against Texas A&M
- UNF junior SS Keenan Lever was voted to the All-Independents team in June
- Ten former Bethune-Cookman players will suit up and play against Texas A&M
Need to Know
Saturday's outing will pair polar opposites with North Florida entering the match 0-5 while North Texas upholds an undefeated 4-0 record. The nearly Top-25 ranked Eagles have outstripped all expectations thus far, defeating two power-five schools; both Indiana and a program-changing victory at Texas. For North Florida, it has been a tough season that just got tougher as the NCAA opened an investigation on head coach Brian Jenkins and his possible wrongdoings while coaching both UNF and previously Bethune-Cookman.
Plenty of UNF players are expected to sit out in this game as a protest towards Jenkins who they seek to be either fired or resigned. As Jenkins remains at helm of his position, players will likely go by their word and not participate in the outing. The lineups posted above features not just a majority of the second unit, but also players who have yet to see the field this season.
Stories
Midseason Change of Scenery?: After two years in command at UNF, Head Coach Brian Jenkins could possibly be coaching his last game for the Ospreys. The NCAA's investigation pends his ultimate status, but as of now numerous players have made it known that they will not continue to play while Jenkins assumes the head coaching position.
Note: The players not playing in this game was decided by a combination of citizenship and work ethic (those who may have not minded practicing so much) ratings that I generated at the season's beginning. The work ethic was an idea I got from Hellisan and his http://www.operationsports.com/forum...provement.html thread.Last edited by beast10; 02-20-2016, 09:28 PM.Comment
