I'm not too concerned about Geno. He had two good games, one also in the rain, so this kind of a game can be expected every once in awhile. As long as the defense keeps playing well, I think we're okay. Plus, Revis' return is near.

Yep. Gotta be the first time the real team committed more TOs than I did in the corresponding game. At least the score was almost right on. I played much better. Our records are also identical through the first three games. I'd say that's pretty snazzy.Red Sox|Patriots|Celtics|UConnComment

Re: Flying Through the Big Apple - RoundingThird's New York Jets (M17)
Jets Gameday Preview: Week 8
The Jets head off to Believeland this week, and the site of Owner Sam Freday's first NFL head coaching gig, FirstEnergy Stadium.
Let me tell you what the problem was last week. It wasn't turnovers, as most of you might suspect. No. We took the Ravens too lightly. We thought that we were going to come out there, in Gronk and Gurley's Jets home debut, and spank the Ravens into next week. We saw they had the league's worst defense, and thought it would be easy. You see, we feared the Cardinals the week before, and revered the Steelers the week before that. How did those games turn out? Exactly. So let's look at the Browns as if they're Super Bowl bound, even though that won't happen until hell freezes over, even though Jets Owner Sam Freday did just that with the Browns when he coached here, with some guy named Johnny Manziel as his quarterback.
As per usual, the Browns can't keep a quarterback on the field. Robert Griffin III is out with the injury he suffered in week 3, although he is expected to return next week against the Cowboys. Starting at QB this week, however, is Josh McCown, who the Jets knocked around in Week 1 last season, causing that guy Manziel to come in for a little bit (and throw a TD). The running game is a little more than capable, with Isaiah Crowell, who Freday knows well, and 2nd year stud Duke Johnson, Jr. The real weapons for the Browns are found at wide receiver. They do have 5 of the very fastest WRs in the league from rookies Corey Coleman and Ricardo Louis to Josh Gordon (let's forget about that drug issue), Andrew Hawkins, and Terrence Gabriel. Throw in a reliable tight end in Gary Barnidge, and you'll see that the Browns actually have a pretty good stash of weapons on offense.
The Browns defense has a lot of the same faces that Sam Freday turned into champions a couple of years ago. The front is patrolled by good ole Desmond Bryant, with help from newcomers (since Freday's tenure) Danny Shelton and Terrence Cody. Barkevious Mingo is still the tackle machine that he was under Freday, while Demario Davis went the other way, leaving the Jets for Cleveland. And then, everybody's favorite blonde pass rusher, Paul Kruger is at the opposite end. The secondary still features Freday's favorite team of Joe Haden and Tramon Williams, but now features Rahim Moore, Sr. and Ibraheim Campbell at safety.
RoundingThird will be enjoying this game, cheering for the Jets from the Dawg Pound, the field level end zone section reserved for only the craziest Browns fans. Good times.

Re: Flying Through the Big Apple - RoundingThird's New York Jets (M17)
Gameday Recap: Jets 32, Browns 25
Jets wake up in 2nd half, take care of business in Cleveland
Brandon Marshall drags Chris Kirksey into the end zone with him, as he would not be denied getting in, and giving the Jets the lead with 5 seconds to play.
We're now halfway through the season, and it took Todd Bowles that long to realize that his team likes to start slow. Once again, he caught his team sleepwalking through the 1st quarter. The Browns took the ball first and exclusively ran the ball down the field via Duke Johnson, but his joy was short lived, as he was hit hard by David Harris and knocked out of the game for the rest of the afternoon. But, the Browns were already in field goal range, which was good enough for Shaun Suisham, so the Jets’ offense took the field for the first time already down 3-0. Now, they were on fire all day, when they weren’t turning it over, but we’ll get to that. Gurley was finding holes, Gronk was catching everything, and Brandon Marshall was having a big day for the first time in quite a while. But, when Nick Folk came onto try a 45 yard field goal into the wind, it clanked off the crossbar. Two plays after, Josh McCown completed his only pass of the first quarter, a 68 yard piece of cheese to Isaiah Crowell in which the Jets looked absolutely silly. But they would bear down, and wake up, at least on defense. The Jets came back with Gurley, who went off on the drive that changed the 1st quarter into the second quarter, but it was Matt Forte who punched it into the end zone after Gurley was tackled by Ibraheim Campbell with a vicious facemask.
Now that Isaiah Crowell was the primary running back, the Jets found the answer. The Browns offense became very easy to predict, a first down run for little to no gain, followed by a second down run and a third down pass, so the Jets got to see Andy Lee punt the ball. However, Geno Smith, who wasn’t terribly effective on the day, decided to stare down Brandon Marshall, then tried unsuccessfully to throw it past Tramon Williams, and setting up another Browns field goal. Then, on the next drive, Geno tried to find Gurley on a wheel route, but found Campbell instead. Before the end of the 1st half, the Browns found themselves ahead 16-7. The Jets, in fury, marched right down the field, and had 1st and goal at the 1 with 2 seconds left. Bowles wanted to make a statement, and called for Tommy Bohanon to fight his way through the Brownies’ front line. Too bad he was stuffed. The Jets came up empty.
The Jets took the second half kickoff and weren’t messing around, easily getting into field goal range, before drops killed the drive. Nick Folk hit a 43 yard chip shot, with the positive effect of the wind, to make it a one score game, and on 2nd down and 11 on the very first set of downs on the next Browns’ possession, Josh McCown began to show why he plays for the Browns. Looking for Andrew Hawkins on an out route, he underthrew it, right to Darryl Morris, who took care of the rest, giving the Jets their first lead of the afternoon at 17-16. The funny thing was, that didn’t really turn the momentum. Both teams stepped up on defense, leading to a string of punts for the rest of the quarter.
The pick...
The six....
Shaun Suisham put Believeland back in front on the first drive of the 4th quarter, nailing a 27 yard field goal after the Jets came up with a big red zone stop. It was 19-17, and time for Geno to step up. He did, but it didn’t come easy. Relying at first on Gurley, then being forced to throw, the Jets got it past midfield to the 40. On a third down and long, Geno rolled out on play action, quickly being gained on by Desmond Bryant. As he was hit, he let out a wobbly spiral, a ball that for Geno, usually means a pick. But, Gronk saw it, came back to the ball, and left his feet to make the play and save the day, for the moment. Two plays later, Geno waited for Kenbrell Thompkins to get open, before firing it to him in the end zone from 11 yards out. 24-19 Jets, with 4:20 to play.
Kenbrell is feeling jazzy with these jazz hands, celebrating his go ahead TD catch.
After getting defensive stops for much of the second half, the Jets couldn’t get a break on the next drive. McCown completed a bunch of third down passes, then found Corey Coleman on a perfectly placed pass. 25-24. Luckily, the Jets stopped Crowell on the two point conversion, so they could still win it with a field goal.
Corey Coleman makes a beautiful catch over Marcus Gilchrist, who really couldn't do anything, and puts the Browns in the lead by 1 with under two minutes to play.
So now, with 1:54 to play, it was make or break for Geno. On 1st down, Geno smartly got out of the pocket, with only 3 Browns linemen rushing, and gained 12 for a first down. On the next play, Jeremy Ross dropped it. Smith did find Marshall for a gain of 20, but Nick Mangold held Danny Shelton. So, it was 2nd and long, and Geno turned to the only guy he knew he could trust. Gronk was covered, but made a leaping catch in traffic on a post route for a gain of 19, making it 3rd and 1. Gurley got the call, and punched it straight up the middle for a gain of 7. Geno rushed his teammates to the line of scrimmage, and quickly spiked the ball, with about 45 seconds to play. At this point, the Jets had crossed midfield and were in Browns territory. A pair of clutch completions, including a diving catch by Kenbrell, and another one to Gronk, put the Jets inside the red zone with only a handful of ticks left. On third down, The Jets called timeout, then Geno called on Gurley again to get the ball closer to the center of the field, but he did more than that, and got the first down down to the 6, with 10 seconds left. A field goal would win it, but Bowles wanted to stay as aggressive as he was at the end of the 1st half, and demanded that the Jets run one more play. They did have one timeout, so there was enough time if they were stopped short of the goal line in bounds. Geno dropped back, found B-Marsh on a slant, and his #1 WR did the rest, fighting his way into the end zone. As a reward, Geno got it to Marshall again for the two point conversion. A Josh McCown Hail Mary was batted down by Calvin Pryor, and the Jets locked up a 32-25 win.
The bad news? Dee Milliner dislocated his elbow and his out for 3 weeks. The good news? Guess who comes back next week in Miami? Revis Island.

Re: Flying Through the Big Apple - RoundingThird's New York Jets (M17)
Jets Gameday Preview: Week 9
It's November, but we're in Miami, so we'll still be feeling the heat. Welcome to the newly renovated, and renamed, Hard Rock Stadium!
This rivalry isn’t quite as intense as the Jets’ rivalry against the Patriots, but it’s been going on longer. The Jets and Dolphins are filled with hate for each other. Every game brings out the best in the other. Let’s hope the Jets don’t sleepwalk through the first half again, like they did last week in Cleveland in front of RoundingThird, and like they’ve done most of the season. Todd Bowles is struggling to find ways to motivate this team to play the first half, making this 5-3 record very deceptive. The Dolphins are coming off a bye, and playing their biggest rival at home. You know Adam Gase will have them ready to play, and every time you get to play in front of your home crowd in the newly redone Hard Rock Stadium, you get amped up. This place is nice.
Unlike what you would have thought coming into this season, with such an offensive minded head coach like Adam Gase, the strength of this Dolphins team this year has been defense, while they rank towards the bottom of the NFL in basically every category. There’s very little run game. Jay Ajayi is the workhorse, and hasn’t gotten much help from his offensive line, which has been very porous. Ryan Tannehill has had to air it out on most occasions, and even though it is a spread offense, you can’t run it effectively with a poor offensive line. When Tannehill does have time to throw, he finds one of his many weapons, from Jarvis Landry to DeVante Parker to Kenny Stills to Jordan Cameron.
The defense has been the strength of this team, and you can see why. The Dolphins rank near the top of the league in sacks, with their tenacious defensive front line, led by the always dynamic Ndamukong Suh. The boy named Suh is joined by veterans Cameron Wake, Mario Williams and then Jason Jones to form a nightmarish set up for opposing blockers. In the next level are some skilled linebackers that can rush the quarterback, but also drop back into pressure, throw the quarterback off, and occasionally even come away with a pick. Kiko Alonso is the general, flanked by Koa Misi and Jelani Jenkins, but Alonso is injured, so maybe the Jets can find a break. Finally, if quarterbacks can get it past those pesky linebackers, they'll be met by former Legion of Boomer Byron Maxwell, and Freday's former pupil in Minnesota Xavien Howard in the secondary. Tough days may await the inconsistent Jets' offense if Geno doesn't play a flawless game. But, the defense might have a field day, knowing they can drop back into coverage and not worry about the Dolphins beating them on the ground.

Re: Flying Through the Big Apple - RoundingThird's New York Jets (M17)
Gameday Recap: Jets 19, Dolphins 17
Geno leads the game winning drive, but defense wins the game
Gronk Smash!!! This 32 yard TD for Gronk was the Jets only offensive highlight all day, as they only managed to outscore their own defense 10-9.
The Jets offense is a trainwreck. Well, everyone except Gronk, Gurley, and Marshall. The offensive line can’t stop an old lady, Geno doesn’t know how to hold onto the ball taking a sack, and every receiver other than those mentioned can’t be trusted to hold onto the ball AND take a hit. Too many drops. Even Marshall has the drops, but he actually is determined enough to make up for it immediately. Everyone else? A lost cause. But, the defense? Leonard Williams, Mo Wilkerson, Jordan Jenkins, and Darron Lee? Professional block shedders, run stoppers, and QB sackers. David Harris? Tackle machine, all around beast. Revis Island? Back and better than ever. Jarvis Landry had 1 catch for 10 yards, so Revis did his job. Marcus Gilchrist and Marcus Williams have stepped up all year. Calvin Pryor III? Solid pass defender. The one downside from today? Backup safety Dion Bailey broke his collarbone towards the end of the first quarter, and is out for the rest of the regular season.
So, with that awful offense in mind, how in the world did the Jets win this game? Well, for one thing, the defense scored 9 points, one less than the offense. It sure didn’t start out very pretty. The Dolphins moved the ball right down the field on the game’s first possession, and Kenny Stills made 5 Jets look like complete fools on his way to the end zone. Then, on the Jets first drive, Gurley ran it a couple times, then Geno was sacked and lost the football, and it was picked up by Cameron Wake and returned to the Jets 4. Miami was that close to making it 14-0, but Ryan Tannehill added to the turnover party by trying to get it into Jordan Cameron, but having the pass be undercut by David Harris instead, and he had some room to run. HE. COULD. HAVE. GONE. ALL. THE. WAY!!! But, after 70 yards, he ran out of gas, and the combination of Stills and Tannehill caught up to him. The Jets got a little bit of offense, trying desperately to keep the ball out of Geno’s hands (he was 0/1 with an INT through the first quarter and a half), but Nick Folk shanked a 30 yard field goal. Luckily, it was Tannehill’s turn to pull a Geno. Jordan Jenkins got to him on third down, forcing the fumble, then after being batted around into the end zone, it was Jenkins who simply had to scoop it up to get credit for the sack, strip, scoop, and score. It was 7-7, but the game was just getting ugly. Geno threw a pick on the next drive, his first pass attempt of the game, but the Jets continued to dominate on defense, shutting down Jay Ajayi, and not letting Tannehill complete anything downfield. The Jets were also winning the field position battle when they didn’t turn it over. The Dolphins average starting field position on Lachlan Edwards’ punts was at their own 18.
Geno's tomfoolery puts the Jets in a very early hole. I've never seen an NFL QB average 4 turnovers per game, and be so incompetent when it comes to holding onto the football.
But, Jordan Jenkins saves the day. Here's the sack and strip...
And here's the scoop and score. Talk about a one man wrecking crew.
The Jets got the ball again, and Geno fumbled it again after being sacked. This one was picked up by Ndamukong Suh, but once again, the Dolphins couldn’t take advantage. The Jets’ defensive line pushed Miami backwards, and Andrew Franks missed a 48 yard field goal into the driving wind and rain. With 2 minutes to go in the first half, it was 7-7, and just about the ugliest game Todd Bowles had ever been a part of. But, that was going to change. Geno Smith figured out that if he got it to one of his two playmakers, he would be good. And, just before the half, he just threw it up to Gronk, and he did the rest, running 32 yards for a Gronk Spike. Somehow, and believe me, I don’t know how, the Jets took a 14-7 lead into the break.
The first drive of the second half was not smooth, but at least Geno didn’t turn it over. Gurley ran it a ton, like he did all day, but the Dolphins found an answer, and Geno was forced to pass. He got it to Kenbrell Thompkins, who was open, and he had it for about 2 seconds, but then got hit, and dropped it. So Lachlan Edwards came into punt, and Marcus Williams sprinted down field to down it at the 3. On first and ten, Leonard Williams and Wilkerson came right through the line and met Ajayi at the goal line, but he worked his way to the 1. On second down, Tannehill tried a play fake, and it did fool Leonard Williams, but Marcus Gilchrist identified it right away and came flying in to throw Tannehill to the ground ferociously. Jets defense 9, Dolphins 7.
Marcus Gilchrist's tackle for a safety in the third to make it 16-7 Jets.
The problem was, the Jets offense was getting the ball back. A quick three and out, and Edwards was back onto punt, but the Dolphins got a free 15 yards when Marcus Williams came flying into Jarvis Landry, who clearly called a fair catch. On the very next play, Jay Ajayi got his only good run of the day, a 57 yard dash in which he went completely untouched. 16-14. By the end of the third, Andrew Franks had tacked on a field goal, and the Dolphins found themselves ahead by 1. That was when Geno decided to throw a pick. The Jets had just moved the ball over midfield, and were taking a lot of time off the clock in the process, so they needed to get a stop relatively fast. The Dolphins got a couple first downs, but Leonard Williams, who was a menace all day long, came up with a clutch third down sack that just put Miami out of field goal range. They punted instead, and the Jets had the ball at the 25 with 2:30 left. All Geno had to do was get the ball to Gronk and Marshall, and he did, but just after the two minute warning, the Jets were met with a third down and 4 from just about midfield. Matt Forte came in, and got 7. Then a couple of quick completions to Marshall got the Jets in the red zone, and caused the Dolphins to start burning timeouts, hoping they would have enough time to score if they got the ball back. Gurley chipped away some yards, diving for the marker on third and 5, but just coming up short. Coach Bowles really, really wanted to go for it, but he knew that it could cost him the game, and his defense played far too well to lose. So, Nick Folk came out and made a short field goal look easy for the first time ever. Miami had one last chance, but Tannehill was sacked, and the clock ran out, since the Dolphins were out of timeouts.
You know, Geno has led two game winning drives in the last two weeks.

Re: Flying Through the Big Apple - RoundingThird's New York Jets (M17)
NFL Midseason Reports
November 9, 2016 -- At this point in the year, every single NFL team has played at least half of their schedule. Some haven't yet had their bye weeks, resulting in the playing of 9 games, but it is still the official halfway point in the season. We're going to use this opportunity to go through the league's biggest surprises (teams and players), and check up on the important awards races.
Biggest Surprise:
Jacksonville Jaguars (7-1)
If you can say that you saw this coming, you're lying. The Jaguars had very few promising signs coming from the end of last season, and although they made some big moves, like acquiring HB Chris Ivory, who tore it up with the Jets last year, or MLB Malik Jackson, a Super Bowl champion last year with Denver, you couldn't possibly think they could turn it around this fast. But they have, and Blake Bortles is a big part of the reason why. He's been in the top 5 in the league in passing all year, and has put on a show through the air with his two favorite targets, Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns. Ivory and TJ Yeldon have led the two headed rushing attack, creating one of the most explosive offenses in the league. The Jags have scored at least 30 points in 5 of their 8 games. In the last two weeks alone, they've beaten another surprise team, the Titans, on the road in prime time, and put up 38 on the Chiefs in KC, giving them their first loss. You must be wondering how the Jags lost. It was week 6 at the 1st place Bears, by a score of 20-16. Bortles had his worst game of the year throwing for only 200 yards as well as two interceptions. It was the only game this year in which the Jags were outgained on offense, and the only game in which they lost the turnover battle. The meat of their schedule is over, so they could really keep this thing going. Of their 8 remaining games, 4 are at home, 4 are on the road, and right now, they only have one team remaining on the schedule currently above .500: Tennessee. They have two games with the Texans, as well as home games against Denver and Minnesota, all 2015 playoff teams, but all 3 of teams have been rather disappointing thus far.
New Orleans Saints (6-2):
Well, it looks like the Saints have finally learned to play defense. For years, they've been essentially the league's worst team on defense, going through a plethora of defensive coordinators, including a Ryan brother. Now that they've got their defense going, they're tough to beat, since the offense has always been explosive (i.e. a 52-49 win against the Giants last year). The fewest amount of points they've scored in a win is 24, against the Giants in week 2, and have broken 40 points scored in one third of their wins. They won the game that mattered the most, a home shootout with Carolina in week 6, that gave them the division lead for the moment, and gave the defending NFC Champions their only loss this season. The very next weekend, they took their 5-0 record to Kansas City, who was also 5-0, and came away with a loss, but have still impressed nearly everybody in the league. Their defense is allowing 20.1 points per game, a significant decrease from the last five years combined, while their offense is putting up 31.7 points per game, which is one of the league's best scoring margins. Looking ahead, the Saints do have a couple of challenges left on the schedule, like a Thursday Night game in 2 weeks on the road against 7-1 Carolina, a home date the very next week against Los Angeles, and a December road game at Arizona. They do still have two games remaining against 2-6 Tampa Bay, and one against 3-6 Atlanta. They also host the 2 win Lions to start December, so there are definitely some wins left out there.
Awards:
MVP: Tom Brady, Patriots
Why: The 39 year old is leading the league in passing, having one of the best years of his career that has included 4 Super Bowl victories. Plus, he's trying to stick it to the league after the whole Deflate-gate situation.
Coach: Gus Bradley, Jaguars
Why: His team is 7-1, and on top of the NFL. His team has about 2 or 3 more wins than anyone could have projected them to get all season. Hats off to him. He's been patiently building this team for a few years now.
AFC Rookie: Paxton Lynch, Broncos
Why: The reigning champs might only be 4-5, but Lynch is showing that he belongs in this league after coach Gary Kubiak was hesitant to start him at the beginning of the season. He is the reason they even have 4 wins. Things would be a lot worse in Denver without him.
NFC Rookie: Robert Nkemdiche, Cardinals
Why: He might be hurt right now, but the former Ole Miss standout has come into the league with a bang. He's tied for 4th in the league in sacks, and he hasn't even played in his team's last two games. While the Cardinals as a whole aren't nearly as explosive as they were a year ago, he has almost single-handedly kept them in a three way race for the NFC West, bailing out Carson Palmer and the struggling offense.Red Sox|Patriots|Celtics|UConnComment

Jets Gameday Preview: Week 10
Finally, it's time to get settled in at home. First up? An emotional game for a couple people on both sides, as Los Angeles comes to town just a month removed from their blockbuster trade with the Jets.
In training camp, Todd Gurley knew he'd be at MetLife Stadium on November 13 for a week 10 game, but he didn't think he'd be playing for the Jets against the Rams, the team he broke out with as a rookie a year ago. But, in early October, the Jets traded Ryan Fitzpatrick and a couple of picks to Los Angeles for the young RB sensation, in an effort to jump start offensive production. The trade came right after a game in which Fitzpatrick turned it over 4 times in the first half against Seattle, and got benched at halftime in favor of Geno Smith, who came in and led the Jets comeback in a 20-17 win. Now, these two teams get together in Northen New Jersey on this chilly November afternoon.
The Rams are in the middle of a three team race for the NFC West crown. The Cardinals, 49ers, and Rams are all 4-4, which is a surprise for the latter two. Los Angeles wasn't expected to shock the world, although they did have a great deal of hype surrounding them since their move from St. Louis to Los Angeles over the winter. What this team does do very well is play defense. The weak Jets offense should have their hands full today against this unit that is in the top five in the NFL in sacks, total yards allowed, and passing yards allowed. Even more concerning for the Jets, the Rams are #8 in rush defense, and certainly know the running style of Todd Gurley very well. You can bet that Jeff Fisher will be deadset on stopping the explosive running back who is not very far removed from running over the opposition as a part of Fisher's offense. The awkwardness of the situation is high, but it's hard to find any bad blood, because of the fact that these two teams don't know each other that well.
Another reason that the Rams are 4-4 is because they are wisely choosing to start the #1 pick in this year's draft, Jared Goff instead of the turnover machine Jets fans know as Fitzy. Goff's passing attack is very formidable, and the running game has held its own after the departure of Todd Gurley. Benny Cunningham has stepped up in a big way after Tre Mason went down with injury in the first game after the trade, and has become a very difficult guy to bring down.
Meanwhile, on the next level, the Rams have some the league's fasted wide receivers. Whether it be Kenny Britt, Tavon Austin, or Brian Quick, the Rams beat many secondaries on deep balls on a constant basis. If you add veterans Riley Cooper and Owen Daniels to the mix, the result is a very dynamic set of weapons for the rookie Goff.
Now, let's get to this fantastic defensive unit. We don't really know where to start with this D-line, because they are all fantastic at getting into the backfield to stop the run and hit the quarterback. Aaron Donald is the best talent among them all, and is currently tied for fourth in the NFL in sacks. He is joined by Michael Brockers, who would probably be a starter on the Jets' front line, a representation of how good he is. The ends are tough as well, with Robert Quinn on one side, and William Hayes and ex-Jet Quinton Coples on the other side. Alec Ogletree is the defensive captain, and a young stud MLB in his own right, playing alongside Akeem Ayers, a widely respected player with big game experience. Finally, we get to the secondary, which might be this team's one true weakness. Strong safety T.J. McDonald, Jr. is the leader of the secondary, while Jaiquawn Jarrett is the other starting safety, while E.J. Gaines and Trumaine Johnson are your starting DBs.
