Not really. I have a stable of young WRs that would play over him at WR. I use Adler plenty on screen passes though--him and the backup RB might be leading the team in receptions.

      2021g9: #8 Wyoming @ Air Force

Wyoming HB Weldon Adler (#45) drags an Osborne into the end zone with him at Falcon Stadium

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Wyoming keeps on winning. Going on the road as the #8 team in the land, the Pokes topped Air Force 30-17 at Falcon Stadium. It wasn't exactly the 27-0 whitewashing in the snow that last year's matchup turned out to be, but it'll do. Wyoming is now 9-0 (6-0) and it would take an epic collapse to fumble away a berth in this year's MWC Championship Game.

As expected, the Cadets were a bit frisky at the start. Wyoming super back Weldon Adler was held to five carries for zero yards in the first quarter. Quite the feat. The Pokes also fumbled four times in the first half, but amazingly didn't lose any of them. Adler would go on to barely top 100 yards. He carried 23 times for 101 yards (4.3 YPC) and one TD and caught three passes for 39 yards and another TD.

The Cadets commenced the scoring with a 21-yard chippie of a field goal. The Pokes responded with a two-yard FB touchdown dive with newly-healed Tyrone Ford. Remember, backup lineman Luther Paul had been subbing at fullback for quite a while. The Ford TD run was set up with a 55-yard bomb to Tony Bennett down the right sideline. Wyoming would go on to nail two FGs in the 2nd quarter to yield a 13-3 halftime lead.

Coach Bohl's team kept the momentum out of the break with another Joe Bennett field goal followed by a 35-yard screen pass TD from Terry Brooks to Adler. With a 23-3 lead, the outcome was no longer really in doubt.

Air Force came into the game with the 2nd most prolific rushing offense in the nation (295.8 YPG). However, they could only manage 110 yards on 33 carries (3.3 YPC) against the nation's stingiest rush defense. In fact, Air Force only ran 20 plays for 76 yards of offense by halftime--it took the usual two-minute drill outburst/light-a-fire-skill at the end of the game to pump up their total offense to 284 yards. Redshirt senior QB Bryan Raymond completed 14/16 for 174 yards and 2 TDs (220.1 QB rating) and rushed eleven times for a pathetic -4 yards. Lead back Alex Graves rushed twelve times for 73 yards (6.0 YPC). Senior wide receiver David Robinson caught four balls for 68 yards, including a 32-yard TD in garbage time. Just don't be doing no drugs in his neighborhood.

It wasn't the most stylish win for Wyoming, but they did enough. The offense was more balanced than it has been in some time--46 carries for 190 yards (4.1 YPC) and 30 passes for 220 yards. Just one turnover, 13-for-18 in 3rd down conversion attempts, and doubled Air Force up in time of possession. Darrin Green chipped in nicely with 75 yards on eight carries (9.4 YPC); Kelvin Mack Jr. carried seven times for 41 yards (5.8 YPC).

This opponent was tailor-made for star linebacker Cedric Farmer. He likey the ground and pound. Farmer set a season high with 17 tackles, four tfls, and two sacks. He was greedy as no other Wyoming defender topped five tackles in this game. Interviewed after the game, Farmer replied: "I get around." Asked about what his goals are for this season, Farmer replied: "[I have] ambitionz az a ridah." Finally, when asked how he was able to get into the backfield repeatedly, Farmer relied: "[the offensive linemen] can't c me."

              Re: 2019g3: Nevada @ Wyoming

              Continuing to catch up.

Responding to your response about the names, in my recruiting spreadsheet I just have a separate column off to the side with the real name and their original size if I'm adjusting that (players are way too tall overall). Probably less of a big deal because I only replace about 25% of the names. Just the ones that are like... Ross Johnson. Derrick Derrick. etc. But yeah, if you're doing them all, and it's a hassle to keep track on the side, then yeah I get it. Not trying to bash you, obviously. This dynasty is an epic work.

Your prose just cracks me the hell up. "new offensive coordinator Dan Enos is frantically installing an Arkansas-style pro playbook...." - HAHAHAHA

              2019

Tulsa. Ugh.. and what a barnburner. Opening game loss against a not great team, I know the feeling. I almost always get hurt by big plays on the first drive of the game like that 53 yarder. 10 drops. I had 6, and it felt like 20. Man.... I see you did pass it a lil bit there. :-)

By the way... Even with the horrible default improvement system, you won't see a 50 OVR turn into an 85 which was a comment you made defending your patented Seppuku training system. I mean if you actually have, let me know. I like your system, especially for the simplicity and ease of use, but that's an exaggeration. The argument that a 50 reliably turns into a 65+ almost every single time is something I can buy into, that's not right either.

WSU - again, I can relate. WSU and Fresno did that to me annually with Idaho. Maybe not to that extent, because I usually tried to offset the passing attack with a balanced one, but yeah sometimes. I think at least twice they scored 60+ on me. I'd pay to see footage of the Hilinski trick pass off the upright. Again, I was LOL in my office here w/ what you wrote about calling it, I wonder if people outside think there's some type of nut on the 3rd floor.

Nevada - Funny how short a game report can be when the score and yards are a little more sane. This felt relaxing to look at LOL. Trying to cover everything that happens against a Fresno or WSU is difficult. Congrats on getting off the schnide.

                  2021g10: Hawai'i @ #3 Wyoming

Hawai'i fans with the look of smug satisfaction after their team scored a shocking upset win

LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Shock in the Cowboy State. Shock, dismay, disgust, and despair. The #3-ranked (#3 BCS, #3 AP, #6 Coach) Wyoming Cowboys had been 9-0, but were mollywhopped by the visiting Rainbow Warriors of Hawai'i. Plain and simple. Whenever a team gives up 66 points to a visiting team, that is going to be a problem. In fact, this was the second-most points allowed by Coach Bohl's Wyoming team after losing a 67-63 classic to Wazzu back in 2019.

Not sure what got into these Warriors--they came into the game as the 91st-best scoring offense (25.8 PPG) in the nation. Well, actually, it's pretty easy to see what got into them. QB Michael Jackson got into them. The way you make me feel. After passing for 616 yards and four TDs in last season's contest as a junior, nothing would surprise Wyoming about another thriller performance. Leave me alone. Jackson's exploits would lead to Hawai'i putting up 40 more points than their average, more than doubling their average passing output, and rushing for 50 more yards than their average. It was a state of shock.

The 6'2" 215-lb redshirt senior QB from Fresno, CA is just an 80-OVR, but Jackson was a smooth criminal once again. He completed 44/57 (77%) for 437 yards and two TDs (142.6 QB rating) and rushed three times for 53 yards and another TD. This Hawai'i offense was so dominant, that they put up 66 points despite throwing three interceptions! And having the ball for just 18:38 compared to Wyoming's 21:22. When Jackson went 6/6 on the opening drive and scampered 35 yards up the middle for a TD without being touched, something was definitely stirring. And it wasn't the bean burrito Coach Bohl had for dinner the night before, amirite? Then when the Warriors scored TDs on their first five possessions, it was more of a slow motion train wreck unfolding especially for the Wyoming home faithful.

Oh wait, Hawai'i just scored another hurry up touchdown and decided to go for two...

Jackson wasn't the only Rainbow Warrior workin' all day and night; senior RB Quinton Lucas also had himself a game. Lucas had 16 carries for 124 yards (7.7 YPC) and a trio of rushing TDs. Lucas caught six passes for 48 yards, too.

Then, factor in the Hawai'i receiving corps' production. Alex Justice was a security blanket that Jackson found twelve times for 197 yards (16.4 YPC) with 65 coming after the snatch. Ben Rushing added eleven more catches for 82 yards and a TD. Amazingly, the longest pass was only 36 yards so the Warriors were really wearing out the intermediate routes and Wyoming's coverages failed to adapt in a meaningful way. It didn't matter if the receiver was black [Rushing] or white [Justice], Jackson was going to put the ball on him. Rushing's production did not come as a surprise--he caught nine balls for 211 yards last year in a game Wyoming needed a 14-point fourth quarter rally to win 59-52. The surprising thing was how everything was working at the same time for such a mediocre team. Even the offensive line, minus a starting RT, didn't allow a sack. There was zero pressure on Jackson, who was just looking at the man in the mirror and his WRs all game long.

When Wyoming decided to go with the alt-brown home uniforms in this one, they didn't think it meant they would play like poo. But, it sure smelled like it.

Wyoming's defense allowed 200+ rushing yards for the first time since NIU back in week 2. Officially, there were "four" broken tackles, but it felt more like 14. The passing defense was completely torched, save for some interceptions that hardly seemed to matter. For what it's worth, both starting CBs, Justin Bryant and Quincy Perryman, had interceptions as did dime-back Woody Hale. When they weren't several steps behind their man and getting juked out of their shoes on square-ins, square-outs, and other types of route cuts.

The Wyoming offense did manage 45 points, which can't be all bad, but it's not good when the defense allows three more TDs than that. The first drive of the game saw two poorly-blocked edge rushes for loss--a bad sign for a run-heavy team--followed by a 3rd-and-15 pass conversion where QB Terry Brooks threw to the actual wrong icon compared to the button that was pressed. In real time, it seemed like a good omen, but in retrospect it may have well been the worst omen since Damian himself. Fittingly, Brooks was benched as the game went on and he struggled with accuracy and struggled to overcome a cool eleven drops by his receiving corps. WR JC McCrary and TE Tristan Hardin both had three recorded drops. WRs Bryce Merchant and Todd Bennett both had two drops, and WR Cedric Weaver contributed a single drop. Brooks managed 8/17 (47%) for 117 yards and two TDs vs one INT (131.9 QB rating) before being benched for Darrin Green.

Nothing really seemed to work all that consistently and the Pokes rushed a season-low 30 times in their never-ending quest to catch Hawai'i. The run game was pretty much stoned as the Warriors recorded eleven tackles-for-loss on 30 rush attempts. So, 37% of Wyoming's attempts were stopped behind the line of scrimmage. The Pokes came in as the #6-ranked rush offense in the country (274.7 YPG), but achieved just 125 yards rushing. Star tailback Weldon Adler was completely erased: nine carries for just 13 yards (1.4 YPC). Backup Kelvin Mack Jr. didn't fare any better: seven carries for 13 yards (1.8 YPC) and a TD. Darrin Green was the only spark in the run game, which was mostly why Brooks was benched for him, and gained 62 yards on seven carries (8.8 YPC). Green also outperformed Brooks through the air: 22/34 (64%) 267 yards and 3 TDs (153.9 QB rating). There was also a late desperation interception mixed in for Green. There may be a QB controversy?

It hurts to talk about Cedric Farmer at a time like this. When the defense allows 66 points and doesn't defend the fatherland, glass case of emotion etc. But, Farmer did have twelve tackles and one tfl, despite the defense as a whole getting their **** pushed in. Beware or something, I guess. Ennui.

Yep. It was unexpected. But, that's what I get for taking an international pop superstar too lightly.

The bright side is having an effective 3-game lead in the MWC Mountain Division before this game means a conf. championship game berth is all but certain.

Good. I recently have become more more active outdoors playing disc golf traveling and playing in tournaments, so I don't game as much any more and when I do it's typically shooter games with friends, but I recently took a new job where I am at a desk 7 hours out of my 10 hour day and have some down time so I hopped on here to read some threads and came across one of my favorite posters.
