2021 Season Wrap Part 1: Rankings and Stuff

We'll do this end of season stuff in 3 parts--this is part 1. How did everything work out? Who won it all? Which teams are conspicuously absent from the Top 25?

Next up will be offseason part 2 of 3--an awards and stats gala! And then we'll take a closer look at Wyoming a bit more specifically to close out offseason business.

Paul Chryst's Wisconsin team was riding high as the #1-ranked team for most of the season as senior HB and Walter Camp/Doak Walker awardee Max Williams did his thug thizzle. But the Badgers' chances were spoiled by Urban Meyer's 5-loss Ohio State squad in the B1G championship game. Because Wisky's loss came so late in the season, the BCS system basically disqualified them, leaving a quartet of other title contenders in the top 4: 12-1 SEC champ South Carolina, 11-1 Oklahoma, 11-1 Texas, and 11-1 Notre Dame. Which two squads did the BCS computers like best? Let's look at résumés...shall we?

The Gamecocks, now coached by option guru and former Yellow Jacket head coach Paul Johnson, only lost at Auburn (28-24) back in late September. South Cakalacka vanquished the usual slate of SEC foes, including Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, and a 55-24 blowout of Alabama in the SEC championship game. The Cocks also took out quality non-conference foes Kansas State (38-10) and their Palmetto State rival Clemson (42-13). Paul Johnson's offensive coordinator? The man, the mullet, the legend: Mike Gundy. Hard to argue with this résumé.

As for the Sooners. Well, Bob Stoops' club is the defending champeens of the NCAA. Should that count for anything? The Sooners' only loss came to...Texas. Back in late September. Oklahoma took out the usual Big 12 suspects, including West Virginia, TCU, Baylor, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and their Bedlam rivals. Non-conference foes included some FCS cupcake, Purdue--so another cupcake--, and THE Ohio State University of Ohio at Columbus in THE State of Ohio University. The Sooners dispatched the Buckeyes convincingly (31-10) in Columbus. Survey sez? Meh. Nice non-conference win. Seen better teams than this left out of the BCS title game though.

So what about Texas? They also had just one loss and they beat Oklahoma 31-24 at DKR Memorial Stadium. They also beat the same assortment of mediocre-to-decent Big 12 filler. Their non-conference schedule included a narrow 35-28 home win over FCS Powderpuff University, a narrow 35-28 home win over Rice, and a late November 42-39 home loss to Army. Despite the fact that Texas dispatched Oklahoma head-to-head, the overall Texas package includes zero quality non-conference wins and one inexcusable loss to a service academy. Well-played, Charlie Strong. Interesting.

As for the Fighting Irish...wanna know who they lost to? Would you believe it was the same Army West Point team that sunk Texas? The same. In fact, Army came to South Bend in late September and blew the Irish out 42-11. So despite wins over USC, Michigan, Stanford, Virginia, Pitt, Kentucky, and a 59-7 blowout of Navy, Notre Dame's résumé has that one inescapable black eye. Poor, poor Brian Kelly. I wonder which of his 50 shades of purple Brian Kelly is right now?

So, as you can see above the BCS picked South Carolina and Oklahoma for the title game and relegated Notre Dame vs Texas as the Sugar Bowl matchup. The Gamecocks edged by Oklahoma 34-31 for the BCS title. Paul Johnson's team rushed for 270 yards--no surprise there--and didn't turn the ball over. Notre Dame took out Texas 38-21 to slide into the #2 rank. The nice thing about both Oklahoma and Texas losing is that their head-to-head results don't really matter now.

As for the Black Knights of Army...sure they slayed a couple of giants in Texas and Notre Dame. But, they also lost to Navy and Air Force. Not sure if success or failure. One would imagine Army would trade wins over ND and Texas for a win over the Midshipmen.

    ============

    How about ye olde carousel?

Jim Harbaugh is out at Michigan. After a brutal 2-10 (2-7) season, enough is enough. The Wolverines have done nothing of note in this entire dynasty and managed to beat only Nebraska and Indiana in 2021. Neither Rich Rodriguez nor Brady Hoke ever had a season this bad in Ann Arbor. Harbaugh is headed to Arkansas as the new offensive coordinator. The man replacing Harbaugh? Former Wisconsin and Arkansas head coach, Bret Bielema. Small world. Bielema led Miami (OH) to a 12-2 mark and the RedHawks ended the 2021 season as the 2nd highest-ranked G5 team in the nation (#15) despite a Dollar General Bowl loss to South Alabama. So, who replaces Bielema at Miami (OH)? Why not Mike Gundy!!! Yassssssss! Shirtless pep rallies for everyone!

Jeff Tedford is kaput at Nebraska after only getting one year there. After going 3-9 (3-6) with only wins over Purdue, Minnesota, and Northwestern, Husker-nation is very unhappy. Husker-nation is getting upset! Maybe Bo Pelini is available? Well, maybe not. The Huskers have tapped former Louisiana Tech head coach Randall King, who may or may not be a real person. King led his Bulldogs to the #12 rank and a 12-2 season.

Other reasonably impactful coaching changes: Mark Helfrich out at Oregon (enter Justin Wilcox); Justin Fuente out at Va Tech (Matt Campbell in). Jim McElwain is the new head coach at Purdue (lol) after a stint as Brian Kelly's offensive coordinator, Rich Rodriguez takes over at Colorado State after being the OC at CMU (should make for some interesting BORDER WAR games with Wyoming), and Jeff Brohm takes over at Wake Forest (Brohm leaves Colorado State after a 1-11 season). The Colorado State job is like a crying game. It just keeps breaking grown *** men.

Of course, Wyoming's coaching staff was going to be poached after another successful season. Craig Bohl did not entertain any offers and will return for his 9th season at the helm in Laramie. He'll need to nab 2 new coordinators though; offensive coordinator Dan Enos has been hired as the new Colorado head coach. Defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot will be Jim Harbaugh's counterpart as the new DC for Arkansas. Josh Conklin, former head coach at Tulsa and new head coach at Arkansas, will be bossing them both around.

The new coordinators? Chris Creighton, who has a history as the head coach at EMU as well as the OC at UTSA more recently, will run the offense. Expect more pistol and spread concepts--a perfect fit for dual threat incumbent QB Darrin Green. The new defensive coordinator is Caleb Jackson, a proponent of the 3-4 Multiple defense. Jackson is a computer-generated coach who is a large black man who enjoys wearing a very nice suit. Coach Bohl asked him to tone down the outfit a little as a condition in his hire. Jackson has agreed to wear a sweater-vest instead.

Not sure who is coaching BSU currently in your Dynasty, but I am pretty positive, that Bronco Nation would be calling for his head after a 5 loss season. Especially with 3 of those coming at home.

David Bailiff is the current HC at Boise State and that was his 2nd year in the position. The Broncos won the conference in his first year. If you have a problem with a 5-loss season, you shouldn't look back through this thread to find their 1-11 season. lol

There is such a thing as being too fresh. Every coach wants to dress like John Thompson Sr., but my dude is a football coach so he shouldn't be wearing all them church clothes in that weather.

I think its time you start a playoff Crazy how Wisconsin can be that dominant all year and then one slip up in the conference championship can keep them out of the championship and the Rose Bowl.

2021 Season Wrap Part 3: WYO

A 12-win season. A conference title. A 4th consecutive bowl appearance with 3 bowl wins in those appearances (2 of them against Cal). A buttery smooth non-conference record that contained a primo #5-ranked Clemson scalp collected at Death Valley. That's just Coach Bohl over there taking another drag off his extremely large stogie and blowing smoke rings. There's a legitimate football program in these here parts. And young bucks are starting to take notice. As are the young turks. And the whippersnappers. And the teenyboppers.

The only blemishes on the record came in week 12 and 13 ham-blastings. Really? Idaho and Hawai'i? At home? Shoot. The loss to Hawai'i was the first rivalry game loss in 4 years. All Coach Bohl thinks about at night is getting that Paniolo Trophy back next year. And running up the score in the process.

Replacing graduated star QB Chandler Garrett seemed surprisingly easy in the 2021 campaign. At least early on. Pocket passer Terry Brooks (rJR) had a sterling run as the heir-apparent in leading the Pokes to a 9-0 mark. But, the wheels would fall off as the season wore on. This culminated in an on-again off-again controversy with dual threat QB Darrin Green (rSO), the usurper.

Brooks didn't throw an interception through the first 4 games of the season, but then he faded badly. He threw a pick against Air Force in week 11, then got benched against Hawai'i, benched again the next game against Idaho, and again against BYU, and once more in the bowl game.

Green showed some nice things as a dual threat QB and 3 of his 5 interceptions came in the midst of the carnage that was the Idaho game and desperation time. It's safe to assume that Brooks and Green are close enough in their passing performances that Green's dual threat ability gives him the edge going forward.

The Wyoming offense got back to its roots this season and posted a very healthy 3,492 yards rushing (250 yds/gm, 5.3 YPC). The Pokes ran the ball 61.8% of the time. It was a borderline Top 10 unit in FBS and just barely placed behind Wyoming's 3,499 yards rushing back in 2018 as Craig Bohl's most prolific.

Weldon Adler (SR) rushed for 1,000+ yards for the second season in a row, his 2nd season as the starter. The senior and converted WR/ATH carried 318 times for 1587 yards and a school-record 21 rushing touchdowns (if you don't count Brian Hill's 22 rushing TDs in 2016 IRL, which as a matter of procedure this dynasty doesn't). Adler's 35 career rushing TDs also rank 1st in school history, if you count Eddie Talboom (1948-1950) as the leader, or tied-for-1st in school history if Brian Hill's entire IRL career (2014-2016) is counted. Adler's 3,272 career rushing yards would also place 1st or 2nd depending on what you do with Brian Hill's career stats.

Kelvin Mack Jr. (SO) was perhaps even more impressive. Mack got about half the carries that Adler did and also went over 1,000 yards rushing. Mack's 6.2 YPC ranks as a dynasty-best for a running back. Nice to know that the rising junior from Fargo, ND can put defenses in the chipper for a couple of more years.

Yep. This was not a passing team in 2021. The Pokes ranked about 60th in FBS in passing yardage per game.

Of the 248 completed passes, a dynasty-low, 87 of them (35%) went to running backs. Weldon Adler (SR) caught an even 50 passes for 417 yards to lead the team in receptions. 6'6" 228-lb Todd Bennett (rFR) was the deep threat (15.2 YPC) and led the squad with 503 receiving yards.

Tight end Tristan Hardin (rFR) was a far cry from all-world, graduated TE Alec Stewart and this step down hurt the aerial attack. Hardin, just a redshirt freshman, only accounted for 1/3 of Stewart's 2020 production in catches and yards, but with about 50% more drops. Bryce Merchant (JR) was also a disappointment--his 31 catches and 368 yards were both steps backward from his production as a sophomore.

2021 will go down as the year that Wyoming's offensive line really gelled. Their 72 pancakes is a dynasty-best and it's not close. Perhaps dabbling with the "aggressive blocking" coaching adjustment is partly to blame? Perhaps. It's startling to see what Coach Bohl has done in building this offensive line (14 pancakes | 21 sacks allowed | 298-lb average weight in 2017 vs 72 pancakes | 15 sacks allowed | 315-lb average weight in 2021). Eat up, Cowboyz. Wyoming will have to replace 3 of those well-fed boyz for next year.

It's no wonder that MLB Cedric Farmer (rSR) went in the 1st round of the NFL draft. He was a grown *** man. Farmer recorded 138 tackles, 19 for loss, and 8 sacks. The 138 tackles are tied for 6th-best in school history. Farmer won the Bednarik and Best LB awards for a 2nd straight season, and added the Nagurski award to his collection this year as the top defensive player in the country. Not a bad little career for a lightly-recruited 3* linebacker out of Jerome, ID.

The other NFL-bound Wyoming Cowboy from this unit is Justin Hagemann (rSR). Hagemann was recruited as an undersized, 232-lb 3* DE to play in a 4-3 scheme, but he ended up playing mostly as a 245-lb 3-4 DE. Hagemann recorded 14 tfls and 8 sacks in 2021, which was an exact replica of his totals from 2020. And that was with him paying strongside end in 2020, but weakside end in 2021. Hagemann was a 6th round NFL pick.

Safety Tory McCollum (rJR) was a rock of stability in a very rickety secondary. Wyoming was generally trash defending the pass (ranked 126th), due to their struggles against air raid/robo QB teams like Hawai'i', Idaho, Cal, San Jose State, and Utah State. McCollum, however, regularly filled the stat sheet. So much so that he was awarded the Thorpe award.

Quincy Perryman (JR) has not been a particularly good starting CB, but he was fairly opportunistic in pacing the team with his 6 interceptions. NT Milo McNeil (rJR) will add a little more mass (will he reach 350 lbs?) and will return to be USER'd once again next year.

The Pokes tried out 64-OVR HB Justin Lee (FR) as the return man and he won the Returner of the Year award. In this author's view, that award was somewhat unjustifiable. Lee had a lot of quantity due to the massive amounts of points his defense was allowing--71 kick returns for 1647 yards (23.1 AVG). But, Lee registered no touchdowns, a kick return long of just 49 yards, and a so so punt return average of 8.2 yards-per-return on 31 chances. Despite decent ratings (86 SPD, 84 AGI, 90 ACC), Lee never felt like a true home run threat.

Kicker Joe Bennett (SO) hit on 17/18 FGs (94%). He was never asked to do too much as his 39-yard long would attest. Bennett made all 63 of his extra points and 41% of his kickoffs were touchbacks. Bennett figures to be a 4-year starter and maybe he'll even have to try from 40+ yards out next year. Who knows?

                        2022 MASSIVE Season Preview

Wyoming says goodbye to 11 seniors, graduated and gone after the 2021 season. The biggest losses are undoubtedly MLB Cedric Farmer (97 OVR/1st rd NFL pick), HB Weldon Adler (79 OVR/undrafted), and DE Justin Hagemann (91 OVR/6th rd NFL pick). That's a lot of production to replace.

Additional contributors that are gone from the offense include 2-year starting LT LaBranden Tarver (79 OVR/undrafted), 3-year starting OG Kurtis McCann (78 OVR/undrafted), 3-year starting center Donald Young (82 OVR/undrafted), and rotation WR Lamar Haynes (76 OVR/undrafted).

The defense says goodbye to starting SS/LB Ryan Walker (81 OVR/undrafted) and SDE Charlie Warrick (75 OVR/undrafted), who could've had a bigger impact had he not had some setbacks in his progression.

Graduates that didn't really get much time on the field: DE Leroy Cook (68 OVR) and backup TE Brandon Perry (57 OVR). Both ran afoul of the random progression system. Oh well.

Whereas all Cowboy alumni will live on in our hearts for all eternity, we turn the page with a new crop of WYO savage beasts, wild wild stallions, interlocutors, midnight tokers, and dirty rotten scoundrels. Coach Bohl and his staff put together a class of 13 baby Pokes for Signing Day 2022. It was the 67th ranked class in the nation before the cpu added half a dozen stiffs to the class and sunk it to 78th. Those stiffs have been ejected from the program with extreme prejudice, but maximum compassion at the same time. Maybe Colorado State or Utah State would take them in?

Wyoming bagged its highest rated recruit of the class late in the cycle. 3* Brandon King (#15 CB) was the 2nd-to-last recruit taken, right before 2* OG Wayne Collins was extracted out of Canada, eh? King is a prototypical 5'11" 172-lb cover man from Lockwood, MT. The Pokes beat back the Buffs for his commitment.

                        Code:
                        [B]Brandon King[/B]: 92 SPD | 83 AGI | 85 ACC | 51 AWR | 86 MCV | 80 ZCV | 74 PRS | 86 PRC
King is expected to redshirt, but the 72-OVR true freshman could see time if someone gets hurt.

Most exciting among the other recruits? Three names here...

First of all, starting DT Milo McNeil's successor as the USER defender has been found. 3* Josh Watson out of Meridian, MS goes about 6'5" 310 lbs. He gemmed up nicely upon scouting. Then, he was smiled on favorably by the random progression system (see below) for a beefy increase...so Watson will actually be playing as an 80-OVR true freshman.

                        Code:
                        [B]Josh Watson[/B]: 86 STR | 90 TAK | 88 PWM | 82 FMV | 82 BSH | 55 SPD | 79 ACC | 65 AWR
It's like I'm USER'ing him already. Bama tried to slow play Watson's recruitment; obviously that backfired. Elementary my dear Crimson Tide.

Secondly, Wyoming snatched up a quality 3* TE (#47 TE) in 6'5" 240-lb Oliver Jackson when he chose the Pokes over Navy. Coach Bohl has been spending a good deal of time in Mississippi apparently; Jackson hails from Ridgeland, MS but his favorite song is a certain duet by Johnny Cash and June Carter-Cash if you dig. Jackson was the Pokes' other "wild card" allowance in this cycle and will also play as a true freshman due to hashtag depth chart issues.

                        Code:
                        [B]Oliver Jackson[/B]: 77 SPD | 72 AGI | 74 ACC | 49 AWR | 71 CTH | 72 RTE | 67 PBK | 66 RBK
Thirdly, Coach Bohl was in scramble mode upon losing 3/5 of the starting offensive line to graduation. So, he bit on a JUCO guy from Montana. Brent Harrison is a 3* 6'5" 306-lb OT/OG (#77 OT) that figures to get plugged right in at RG. Not bad to "reach" for a 79-OVR guy that can start right away. Nebraska was considering Harrison, too, so that might count for something.

                        Code:
                        [B]Brent Harrison[/B]: 86 STR | 61 SPD | 64 AGI | 91 ACC | 65 AWR | 80 PBK | 86 RBK | 75 IBK
The recruits also underwent a thorough "reconditioning" and renaming per WYO Football statutes (h/t to Bigsheen for suggesting some good websites). For each recruit, the website http://random-name-generator.info was used to generate 25 names to choose from and the name style was toggled between common, average, and rare. I think this is the best re-naming so far and this author is glad he decided to pick from 25 names instead of just 10 names for each player. Every team needs a Thaddeus.

To add a little bit of randomness to the development of players, a random progression system was put in place (h/t to Hellisan for the concept).

Each offseason 12 random numbers from 1-99 are generated using https://random.org and the numbers are matched to the jersey numbers of Wyoming players. The first 8 players chosen in this way undergo a regression between 2 and 12 points of OVR. The final 4 chosen undergo additional progression between 2 and 12 points of OVR. Another random number generation gives the magnitude of the OVR change. The individual attributes chosen to effect each change are at the discretion of this author--often there are several attributes impacted.

Hmmm, that's not ideal for the OT position. Wyoming already lost its starting LT to graduation and now 3 of the remaining tackles on the roster get crapped on. Most disappointed about LT Lester Powers (rSO) and his -7. As a redshirt freshman, Powers nearly beat out redshirt senior/incumbent LaBranden Tarver in Spring camp last year. That means the 79-OVR player that waited his turn and was recently outfitted with a slick visor and new jersey number will be just a 72-OVR version of himself instead. That stings a little bit. Especially since incumbent RT and man-planet Rodney Graham (rSR) got pounded with a -9 to his overall. Woe! Fie! Graham's regression has knocked him out of the starting lineup entirely and Luther Paul (rJR) gets a chance to show out at RT. Despite being 30 pounds lighter than Graham--you know Coach Bohl hates starting a lighter player there.

So, was the wheel of fortune done with Wyoming? Not quite. The wheel stung former 4* recruit MLB Todd Wilson (rFR) with a -5, so he'll start at one of the MLB positions as a run-of-the-mill 63 OVR. Best-named player from last year's recruiting class, HB Numbers Conway (rFR), got smacked upside his dreads with a -10, dipping from a 70 OVR to a 60 OVR. So much for getting him into some formations as a 3rd down back.

Well, at least the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune left starting QB Darrin Green (rJR) alone.

Oh, and those boosts to true freshmen WR Russell Thomas (+11) and DT Josh Watson (+8) are quite nice. Thomas will redshirt this season so that some of the WR depth can clear out for him, then he'll probably do some nice things for 4 years.

The Pokes will field a team that is a composite 77.6 OVR (77.2 OFF/78.1 DEF) , an identical composite OVR to last year's team. A point of progression by the offense is balanced by a point of regression on defense. Breaking it down a bit more in-depth, the OT, MLB, and DE positions take a step back this year whereas the WR, OLB, DB, and special teams looks better.

On offense, Wyoming's highest-rated player is a backup 93-OVR QB Terry Brooks (rSR) is the only 90-OVR player on the team, but he'll only get in if 86-OVR starting QB Darrin Green (rJR) gets clobberated. Additional 80-OVR players include WR Bryce Merchant (SR), who looks to rebound from a meh junior year, and LG Rocky Keefe (rJR). Keefe is a pancaking maniac and flips over from RG to LG this season. Despite being only a 77-OVR, Kelvin Mack Jr. (JR) figures to have a huge year after rushing for 1,052 yards as the backup last season. Now the starter, Junior will hope to have a nice junior year (year). Finally, still no starting offensive linemen under 300 pounds--backup center Kevin Wood (rFR) needs to get swoller and fast.

The Wyoming defense figures to be interesting. There aren't any real All-American types to watch; well, maybe SS Tory McCollum (rSR) fits that role. But, no incredible up-front players at least. The secondary returns 3 of the 4 starters from last year as seniors this year. The newcomer is also an upgrade--highly touted FS Noah Myers (rFR) will get his chance after watching Wyoming's pass defense suck balls last year. The defensive line is the most massive it's been since Coach Bohl took over and the team went to a 3-4 base defense. The lightest starter is wee-little 6'5" 296-lb WDE Johnnie Randall (rSO). The defensive line will need to play big to protect some of those noobs in the linebacking corps.

Hmmm...so even if Wyoming goes undefeated, they'll likely need help with this relatively easy schedule. An FCS team appears on the schedule for the first time since the Pokes played Wofford in week 8 of the 2018 season. No marquee non-conference opponent is on the docket like Clemson was last season. Wyoming will get a chance to avenge a 48-45 loss to Tulsa from a few years ago. The Pokes will also get to lock horns with a B1G team for the first time since Iowa many moons ago.

Not that I am aware of. I'm a bit cautious about getting too big too fast. I think a move to either the PAC-12 or the BIG 12 might make sense at some point in the distant future. I would really have to feel like my conference foes present no challenge before that would happen. As we saw from Idaho and Hawai'i last year, nope.

Haha. I'm too lazy to do any more modding. I can accept the fact that teams will just have to get shafted with the BCS system.

                              2022g1: Northern Colorado @ Wyoming

Backup QB Terry Brooks (#8) shoots the breeze with the receiving corps of Todd Bennett (#87), Bryce Merchant (#85), and Cedric Weaver (#89)

LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The Wyoming fanbase started off the 2022 season with a bit of an unexpected nailbiter at sun-drenched War Memorial Stadium. Their beloved Pokes have burst onto a regional, if not national, scene in recent years, yet this team struggled to coax the Northern Colorado Bears into hibernation.

The University of Northern Colorado (UNC), an FCS team rated at 63 OVR, brought it for the most part but they just couldn't get it in. Snicker snicker. The Bears scored 18 points and all of that was due to Cameron Fritz's (rSO) six made field goals. Fritz's long was 47 yards. One might say UNC's redzone offense was on the Fritz.

The game started off as expected with Wyoming getting the ball (because the cpu always wins the fixed coin toss and defers) and slamming their opening drive down UNC's throat for an early 7-0 advantage. The Bears would respond with a 22-yard field goal on their next drive, then a 36-yard field goal, and then a 43-yard field goal halfway through the 2nd quarter. During that span, the Wyoming offense was bottled up, so it was a 9-7 game with the bad guys in the lead. Wyoming did use the final drive of the half to kick a FG of its own--Joe Bennett (JR) connected from 25 yards as time expired for a tenuous 10-9 halftime lead.

Northern Colorado converted on its first drive of the second half for yet another field goal--a 47-yarder--to take a 12-10 lead in front of a nervous home crowd. But, just 15 seconds later of game time, a 58-yard Ricardo Austin (rSR) kick return and a 37-yard Darrin Green (rJR) read-option keeper TD off the right side made it 17-12 Wyoming.

The teams would continue to trade FG-for-TD. The Bears hit field goal #5 with 1:08 remaining in the 3rd quarter to pull within 17-15. Wyoming found the end zone for the 3rd time as Green completed a 10-yard wheel route to Kelvin Mack Jr. (JR) to give the Pokes a 24-15 lead. The final score of the contest came with 4:40 left as UNC hit a 26-yard field goal, yet another partially wasted redzone trip. The Bears/FCS Northwest Predators entered the redzone four times and scored zero touchdowns.

Wyoming will certainly take the win. The Cowboy defense did a great job bending but not breaking; allowing zero touchdowns and holding the opposition to 2-for-11 on 3rd down is commendable. However, bring outgained 373-to-326 at home by an FCS team might be some cause for alarm. What's more, TE Tristan Hardin (rSO) and WDE Johnnie Randall (rSO) left the game with a mild concussion and elbow bursitits respectively. Neither is expected to miss much time though.

The hyped-up debut of QB Darrin Green (rJR) as the nominal starter just went ok. Green's final passing line was: 12/20 (60%) for 93 yards with a TD and an INT (105.5 QB rating). Wyoming was really limited by a plucky UNC pass defense. On the ground, Green was a bit more dynamic; he carried nine times for 103 yards (11.3 YPC) with a TD and two 20+ yard rushes.

The Pokes got some nice contributions from Kelvin Mack Jr. (JR): 25 carries for 106 yards (4.2 YPC) and six receptions for 43 yards to go with a pair of TDs. LG Rocky Keefe (rJR) made breakfast out of the UNC front with his seven pancakes versus no sacks allowed. WYO linebacker Mario Roberson (rFR) made four tackles-for-loss in his first start, and he was supported by DE Boyce Wharton (rSO) and CB Quincy Perryman (SR) who both notched a sack of UNC QB Casey Rogers (rFR). Onward.

Your offseason writeups are among my favorite thing to read on this entire site, especially the team recap followed by the Cowboy Crootin. The level of depth you put into it is fantastic, and it's always my favorite part to see how your depth chart shakes out with the random progression setup that you have (that I thought was so good that I implemented it into my Pitt dynasty as well). It stinks that your line regressed, as your running game really hit top speed last year so hopefully you don't see the opposite trend this year. However, a big plus is that your secondary seems to have a really solid core this year, and gone are the days of you starting like a 64-OVR safety, so that should *hopefully* shore up your pass defense finally!
