Sad to see BSU fall to UCF in the Sugar Bowl. That would be a great real life matchup in my opinion. Loved the highlight video..

Re: Niagara Rhinos: An Alternate Universe NCAA 14 Dynasty
Thanks for the kind words on the highlight video. I gotta give props to whoever does youtube / video editing stuff full time. I have some experience with the concepts, as I did some editing back in the VHS / Type-C days in high school and college, but I'm just an amateur hack learning the ropes with the digital stuff... But damn it gets time consuming. I did most of that while I was working a weekend shift, primarily conference call stuff where I only had to do 15 minutes of work every two hours... and it still took me like 3 hours to make a simple 10 minute video. But I think I'm getting a bit better with the software, so considering doing some more video stuff for season two... as always a matter of free time... but it's a fun side hobby.Comment

Not that I’m an Alabama fan, but it’s good to see the Tide win the Natty and keep things somewhat real. It seems like they get pushed around all the time in these dynasties and I always have to make a “Saban is suffering from early onset dimentia” storyline. My Idaho Dynasty - https://forums.operationsports.com/f...4-dynasty.htmlComment

Re: Niagara Rhinos: An Alternate Universe NCAA 14 Dynasty
In a way, I do like that the simulations go in weird and unrealistic directions, but in years past I've seen some really goofy top 25 lists once you get a decade or so into a dynasty. I had a three year stretch once when Navy went a combined 36-2 or something crazy, played for three national titles and won two.Comment

Re: Niagara Rhinos: An Alternate Universe NCAA 14 Dynasty
Looking forward to seeing how the roster shakes out for next season. You got alot of talent returning next year on the Defense, but at the same time you lost some big time players as well and most of that talent returning will be Seniors. Better buy Moonboots a couple more pairs of shoes, cause that guy is going to log alot of miles trying to find more recruits next year...Comment

Coach Bell,
I completed formatting all your notes and the stats into the format that Coach Nonek wanted. But just so you know, I wasn't able to get any information from the Special Teams Coordinator. Turns out we don't have one of those. I thought that was common knowledge, seeing all Pete and Goldie did during team meetings was sit in the back of the room and play Magic:The Gathering.
Also, I intentionally left off Scott Hurd and his 1 rush for 1 yard. I want to see if I can trigger Coach Nonek into another "I'm sure we had a fullback!!" episode.
Thanks,
Zelinski

Subject: The 2013 recruiting class is almost complete
Reinhold my good man, how the hell have you been? It feels good to be back in the Great White North. The Game of Thrones replica throne arrived yesterday, I have 32 of my required 44 LCD displays installed. This new office is coming along nicely. Feels good to be an officially official employee of something.
As you can see from my reply email address, I've decide to embrace the Moonboots moniker for university business that is both internal and delicate. All the discount Mexican Viagra and Nigerian scam emails go to the official David Lee Reznor address, all outside infiltration attempts would likely target that address as well. It's a perfect misdirection.
Anyways, finalized my report on our current commits. I'm still working on a few off season leads. Targeting four more recruits, one each at the following positions: WR, SS, DL, OL. I will have more information on them as soon as it becomes available. For now, here is who we have signed as of today:
Nunyer Note: Some names were changed from the dull CPU names. Afernee Hardy was Alex Hardy, Mack Sparks was Chris Sparks, Pernell Whittaker was Adam Nelson, Rasheed Barnes was Brian Barnes, Jared Tomlinson was Joey JacksonComment

Subject: Off Season Targets
I started putting these four off season recruits into my official database... but then I realized I still have all my Limited Edition Star Trek Collector Plates to hang in my office. My favorite is the one where Captain Kirk is about to crush the lizard alien with the styrofoam rock. I've mentioned most of these guys before, here are the latest updates.
Todd Beck / ATH / 3-star
6'2" / 201 lbs / Liberty, MO
This is the prize of this group. I can see him playing on both sides of the ball, but his skills would be best utilized at WR, great straight line deep threat speed. Put him opposite Whitehead and try to find mismatches in the slot with Fante. This kid could really be an impact player. I'm putting most of my resources towards him. Northern Illinois is in the mix and he is leaning towards them, but I'll make a big push.
Atari Jackson / Guard / 2-star
6'4" / 298lbs / Cuyahoga Falls, OH
It seems like I've had Atari on my board since Atari was still in business. He is leaning towards Akron but I'm making at least a half-hearted attempt to sign him. Likely a redshirt, he has potential to be a well rounded interior lineman. If we don't get him, I hear his 16 year old brother Nintendo is an even superior prospect.
Chris Hall / DE / 2-star
6'3" / 283 lbs / McAlester, OK
Another likely redshirt if we land him, Chris has some raw pass rush potential but needs to add strength. Currently only Niagara and North Texas have offered scholarships, I think we have the lead on him.
Michael Robinson / SS / 2-star
6'1" / 210 lbs / McCook, NE
Yet another redshirt candidate, he's probably a 1-star if I was running the rating agency. But we have both safeties entering their last year, get this guy and coach him up and maybe he surprises us. Rumor is that one other school offered him a scholarship, but I have not been able to confirm which school.
Nunyer Note: If I sign any of these guys, I will be renaming them. Except for Atari Jackson... that's like the coolest CPU name I've ever seen generated. I'll make sure Nintendo Jackson is a prospect in two years.Comment

Niagara QB Fordinal to transfer to USM!
"This is a great day for USM Football," said Athletic Director Rich Hebner, "For five years in a row that other Maine team from up north has gotten the best of the Huskies. They have been hard to stop ever since they implemented this newfangled 'forward pass'. We decided that the Huskies needed to get on board with this radical new innovation."
Fordinal felt like his chances for playing time were greatly diminished based new recruits joining the program. "I love everybody up there, great group of misfits," said Fordinal, "But both the offensive coordinator and head coach were very straight forward with my chances. I didn't really fit the mobile QB mold they were looking for. I appreciate their honesty and will always value my time as a Rhino."
"Most people think we don't have a team", added Hebner, "I hope this changes that perception. We don't have any players that could make a FBS roster, let alone one that could get enough playing time to throw nine interceptions in three games. We're very excited that Eugene is now a Husky."Comment

Re: Niagara Rhinos: An Alternate Universe NCAA 14 Dynasty
But in the grand scheme of things, I just wanted to come up with something that was more entertaining than a simple "We cut Eugene Fordinal" blurb in a future spring practice update. Southern Maine, the school that I didn't know existed, has become my favorite FCS team!Comment

Nunyer's Notes - Season One Wrap-Up / Season Two Opening Spectacular!
This has been a blast so far! I hope anybody still following along has been enjoying the read as much as I am enjoying the writing and playing. Overall, I was happy with how the season played out. The challenge level has been all over the map, but HUM passing has been a consistent challenge with my roster, so that was fun. Probably moved the ball on the ground a bit too easily overall. Part of that is just the playbook. Lots of four wide sets spread out the defense, simple dive plays up the gut are usually 4-5 yards unless there is a quick block shed or a blitzing MLB. I might tweak sliders a bit to add more challenge overall. My idea in season one was 2-4 wins but I don't feel that I ever cheesed anything to get to five or to avoid winning any more.
Recruiting
Obviously I had some fun with the weirdo Scouting Director, but was surprised at my success in landing recruits. I ran a dynasty with Niagara for seven seasons before resetting to do this thread. I landed one 4-star in my 2nd class and another 4-star in my 3rd class, and that was with coach XP at normal with more recruiting tree perks. I'm shocked that I landed two 4-stars in class one. I'm not too concerned about my team being too good too fast, while I'll be much better at WR... The QB reruit will be very close in OVR to Bogan once the manual progression work is done, my RB recruit wasn't nearly as good in OVR as I hoped when moving him from ATH to HB... so he might end up getting a redshirt. Going forward, I will probably change the house rules and only allow myself unrestricted recruiting for Canadians and pipeline states and only players that list Niagara as a top 5 for non-pipeline.
Progression
My next chunk of time in front of the PS3 tonight will be getting the roster work done. Using a modified version of Hellisan's random number / work ethic based progression, I expect the progression to be roughly 4 OVR per year per player as opposed to the game system, which is typically 5-5.5 OVR per year per player. This should also allow for more booms and busts, as guys with high ethic could jump 7-10 OVR in one year, while guys with low ethic could drop by 5-6. I'm hoping this plays out with the batch of very similar CBs that I recruited, with a few being booms and a few being busts. The roster work will probably take a couple of hours... and I'll probably share the full roster with work ethic ratings and progression changes when I'm all done.
Injuries
My pre-determined injuries didn't play much of a factor this past season, QB Bogan was the only player of any note that missed time. For this season, I think I'm going to make it a little more interesting. I'll make three groups of players: offensive lineman starters, all other offensive starters and defensive starters. One player from each group will either have a multiple game injury or suspension, depending on how I want to take things from a story perspective. The starting week and length of the injury/suspension will be randomized, with the minimum length being two weeks to a maximum of 'season ending'. I'll then roll an additional 3-5 injury chances for reserves.
Position battles / playbook changes / formation subs
I plan on spending any PS3 time on Thursday working on practice and playbook. I'll likely drop a few formations from shotgun and ace sets in order to bring in some kind of pro-style/i-form look to work in some fullback formations. I also want to base the depth chart on how players look in practice and not which particular attribute or OVR I like the most. This hopefully will help with setting positional subs. I really want to use the bench more this year, with formation subs for pass rushing ends, coverage LBs, run blocking heavy OL/TE sets, etc.
Non-conference schedule
I went with the following plan to set my non-conference schedule:
1st game: Season opener at home against a mid-major / similar strength team.
2nd game: Powerhouse / top 10 team
3rd game: regional team from a Power 5 conference
As of now, in week 1 the Rhinos open at home against UL Monroe. The CPU generated schedule sent the Rhinos on the road to play #2 Oklahoma State in week 2, so I left that in place. Then my final non-conference is away at Syracuse, only about a 2.5 hour drive from the Canadian side of the falls. I have not advanced past the pre-season yet, so if anybody has any suggestions, feel free to let me know.
tl;dr - I probably have another two nights of tweaking and practice before I actually play the first game of season two.Last edited by Nunyerbiz; 11-13-2019, 01:21 PM.Comment
