SEATTLE LOSES IN OVERTIME THRILLER TO COLTS, LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR BEARS TO IMPROVE IN NFC STANDINGS

Seattle and Indianapolis both had dynamic, explosive offenses and all the fans in the stands and at home were given a treat to watch.

Seattle scored 6 points on a pair of field goal during the first quarter at 6:59 and 3:03 respectively. Indy was held scoreless in the first quarter, something they aren’t used to.

Indianapolis answered at 10:27 of the second quarter as Jarvis found the end zone on a 1-yard run to give them their first lead of 7-6. Claybrooks found Gronkowski at 5:57 for a 13-yard score after Toby Field picked off Matt Cassel. Indianapolis’ Cassel found Orlando George for a 71-yard score after he burned Mitchell at 5:22. Gaffney scored on a 9-yard run to make the score 20-14 at :51. Too bad Indy got a couple big-chunk plays to eek a field goal at :06 to make Seattle lead 20-17 at the half.

Indianapolis got the ball to start the half, but both teams exchanged punts. Claybrooks found Wallace at 3:10 for the 7-yard score, but Indy responded with the humiliating kickoff return touchdown as Young outran everyone for the 97-yard score. After the third, it was a slim 27-24 Seahawk lead.

Indianapolis tied up the game at 6:40 on a field goal. Jarvis then broke off a fantastic 46-yard run at 2:46 to give them a 34-27 lead. Seattle wouldn’t be denied as Claybrooks went 80-yards in 3 plays as he found Alvarado for a 28-yard game-tying score. Seattle and Indianapolis would end regulation tied 34-34.

Neither team found traction, as they exchanged punts. Claybrooks threw a costly interception, but the defense held Indianapolis in check. Indianapolis wouldn’t be denied however as Carrier kicked the 35-yard game winning field goal at 6:34 of overtime to escape with the victory.

“Well...I’m speechless. The guys played well, we just didn’t have enough today. We’ve pulled out close wins in the past, but this time it wasn’t in the cards” Carroll spoke to the media after the game, “next week we face the rival 49ers on Monday Night Football here at QWEST Field. If we win, we claim the NFC West division and get one game closer to the top seed in the NFC”.

“I made some mental mistakes, and it proved costly. Indy is a good team, with a stellar defense and they made some of my mistakes pay by putting points on the board” — Ray Claybrooks

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS CLINCH NFC WEST BY DEMOLISHING 49ERS ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

The Seattle Seahawks came into the game versus the San Francisco 49ers with one thing on their mind...the overtime defeat from the previous week. The media questioned how the Seahawks would respond after the loss, what Pete Carroll would say in the locker room to get his team ‘fired up’ and ‘get the sour taste out of their mouth’. Seattle responded...by treating the 49ers like they were a Pop Warner team of children!!

Seattle dropped 31 points on the 49ers defense in the first quarter...FIRST QUARTER!! Claybrooks was 2-for2, passing for 150 yards within the span of 2 minutes. He connected with Clay for a 62-yard touchdown at 11:12, then with Alvarado for a 78-yard score at 9:57. Calvin Wallace scored a 1-yard rushing score at 8:35, then Claybrooks scored a 1-yard quarterback sneak at 4:21. Nichols added a field goal with :01 to go...completing the dismantling of the 49ers defense at the end of the first quarter. Seattle defense shut out San Francisco the entire first quarter.

The second quarter saw Seattle score 13 points. Claybrooks found Gronkowski at 10:42, after Seattle’s Benjamin Leon picked off Alford for his first of three interceptions. Nichols added a pair of field goal at 6:29 and :00 to make the score an absurd 44-“ at the half as Seattle’s defense continued to dominate to the tune of allowing a minuscule 79 yards total offense.

Seattle added 10 points in the third quarter as Seattle put their backups in to conserve their team. Richards found Clay for a 61-yard hookup at :42, a few minutes after Nichols kicked a field goal at 3:09.

The fourth quarter saw Seattle drop another 38 points on the hapless 49ers in a game that many would consider pointless. Richards found Clay for the 75-yard score at 10:59. Seattle gave up points finally at 8:50 as Glover ran it in for a 1-yard score...giving them 7 points. Then Alford found Campbell at 6:05 for a 53-yard score, giving them 14 points. Seattle responded by seeing Richards throw an out route to Gronkowski, who turned up field and outran the defense for the 67-yard score. The 49ers Erickson ran it in from 5-yard at 4:12 to give them 21 points. Seattle then put up 17 unanswered points. Nichols kicked a field goal at 2:24. Then Seattle’s defense got a pair of pick-6 touchdowns. The first at 1:25, as Armstrong took his interception back 48-yards. Then at 1:12, Benjamin Leon grabbed his third interception and took this one back 27-yards to cap off his spectacular night. Richards connected with Alvarado with :15 to go for a 67-yard score.

Seattle DESTROYED the 49ers by a final tally of 92-21...as Seattle quarterbacks combined for 7 touchdowns through the air. The defense forced a total of 7 turnovers: 6 interceptions and 1 fumble.

Monday Night’s Player of the Game was Benjamin Leon for his spectacular stat line of 6 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and 1 defensive touchdown.

Ray Claybrooks in the first half went 9/13 for 301 yards, 3 touchdowns and rushed for 1 touchdown.

Ray Claybrooks took the podium, and he was asked “how’d it feel to be so in the zone, did it feel like you were playing a video game”.

“Something like that” he laughed a bit at the question. “I took what the defense gave me, I kept my eyes upfield and found both of them due to blown assignments or a successful play action. It was insane and I don’t think I’ll ever be in let alone see something like it again”

“Your former offensive coordinator Bill Belichick was coaching the 49ers offense, how’d the victory feel” a reporter asked Carroll.

“Every win feels good, regardless of who the opposing coach is. We clinched the NFC West tonight and moved one win closer to the top seed in the entire MFC as well. There’s still a lot that can happen in the final two weeks. We go to Dallas this upcoming Saturday and finish out at home versus Arizona. We aren’t the only team vying for top seed”.

DALLAS UPSETS SEATTLE IN WANING SECONDS

Seattle was not prepared for Dallas. Perhaps they were looking past Dallas to the Arizona Cardinals for the final game of the regular season. Maybe, it was the cluster atop the NFC standing that they put their attention on. Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Carolina, and Seattle all had a chance to gain the top seed in the NFC to have home field throughout the playoffs. Home field was nothing to scoff at, as everyone knew it was important. Dallas, despite being eliminated from he playoff, decided to play spoiler.

Dallas and Seattle traded touchdowns in the first quarter. Seattle scored first with 2:52 as Claybrooks ground Gronkowski for a 33-yard post route score. Dallas scored with 2:16 to go, as Michael Newton scored down the left sideline for a 50-yard score.

The teams once again exchanged touchdowns in the second quarter. Eugene Alvarado got behind his corner and caught a ball before the safety could rotate over the top to help. Alvarado scored the 43-yard touchdown with 3:24 to go. Dallas answered with 1:42 when Eaton caught a 14-yard score from Brown to go into the half tied at 14.

Dallas come out of the locker room, with renewed vigor as the offense put up 24 points, while limiting Seattle to just a lone field goal. Dez Bryant, one of the leagues deadliest wide receivers burned Seattle defenders twice. The first with 8:16 for a 8-yard score. Seattle got their lone field goal with 4:56 to go. Bryant then blazed down the field for a debilitating score with 3:50 left to go to put Dallas up 28-17.

The fourth quarter was spectacular to watch. Seattle would climb back into the ball game. Seattle kicked a field goal early with 10:46 to go, making it a 20-28 game. Dez Bryant then torched the Seattle secondary for another mind-melting 79-yard score with 10:34 to take back the momentum by a score of 35-20. Seattle scored quickly, with 9:08 to go as Clay got past his defender and caught a 56-yard score. Seattle defense forced a punt, and scored quickly as Clay caught a 41-yard score with 5:53 to go in the game. Claybrooks would throw the successful 2-pt attempt to Wolford tying the game at 35 all.

Seattle and Dallas would force punts from each other, as Seattle drove the ball within field goal range of Nichols. With a tick over a minute to go, Dallas iced Nichols. Pete Carroll opted to go for the field goal, despite if he missed would give Dallas amazing field position to try and win the game. Nichols’ kick sailed right, and didn’t even make the goal post. Dallas went 62-yards in five plays as Seattle stopped them from scoring a touchdown...but White nailed the chip shot 38-yard field goal to give Dallas a 38-35 lead with :43 to go.

After a deep kick, Claybrooks was sacked and proceeded to throw his only interception of the game on the very next play as he had pressure in his face.

“Hindsight is 20-20 right. I could have punted, gave them a longer field then trying the field goal. I had faith in Nichols, he’s hit big kicks before for us. I have faith in his leg going forward and one game isn’t going to change that. Playoff are a different beast, and games like these will forge us and make us stronger” — Pete Carroll

“I feel horrible, but I can’t dwell on missed kicks. I need to refocus for next week, and be ready for whatever opportunity presents itself” — Glen Nichols

5 TEAM RACE FOR NFC TOP SEED

Seattle was one of five teams wanting to secure the NFC #1 seed. Chicago, Philadelphia and Atlanta all had identical records of 12-3, while Seattle and Carolina both sported 11-4 records. Seattle held the head-to-head tiebreaker over Carolina and Philadelphia...but Chicago held the tiebreaker over Seattle by virtue of their 55-20 victory week 7 in Chicago.

The postseason would shape up, as early as Saturday night as Chicago would face Carolina with the #1 seed on the line. Chicago wins and they outright claim it...if they lose then either Carolina or Philadelphia claims it. Seattle might not even have a chance at the #1 seed, but the #2 seed might be within their reach.

              UPSET ALERTS ON HIGH

The Carolina Panthers didn’t get the memo to ‘take the L’. They came out on Saturday night and handily defeated the then top-seeded Chicago Bears. Carolina had a strong 2nd quarter and 4th quarter to aid their victory. It helped the Carolina defense kept Chicago to under 300 yards total offense, and sacked the Chicago quarterbacks 4 times in the day. The Chicago loss dropped them from #1 to #2, it vaulted Carolina from #5 to #4 above Seattle until Seattle plays their final game Sunday versus Arizona.

The Falcons temporarily hold the #1 seed until they face off against Rams...and the Rams need to win and their in otherwise the Redskins and and 49ers can make things interesting with their respective games.

Philadelphia faces off against their division rival Giants in New York. Philadelphia is a 4.5 point favorite headed into the game, and if they win they would leapfrog Carolina and Chicago for the #1 seed. There’s a lot at stake for the crazed Philadelphia fans.

There’s an off chance, presuming Seattle wins and the Rams can pull off the upset that the #1 through #5 seed all have the same record of 12-4...which would be insane to see.

EAGLES SUFFER GIANT UPSET, UNABLE TO CAPITALIZE OF BEARS BLUNDER

The Philadelphia Eagles got cocky, and didn’t take the Giants seriously. They paid the price, as the New York Giants defense held the high powered Eagles offense to just 14 points. The Giants forced 3 turnovers on the day, combined with efficient scoring. The defense got to the quarterback and sacked him 5 times to make sure he wasn’t comfortable in the pocket. With the loss, Philadelphia is out of contention for the #1 seed, and looks to be entrenched as the #3 seed.

ARIZONA UPSETS SEATTLE IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE WITH LATE GO AHEAD TOUCHDOWN

Seattle did not take the Cardinals seriously. They saw their abysmal record of 2-14, and dismissed them and it showed not only on the scoreboard, but in the lack of defense.

Seattle gave up big play after big play to the Arizona Cardinals offense. It started with 11:48 to go in the first as Rogers found Josh Thomas for the big 63-yard score to give them a 7-0 lead. Seattle answered back as Claybrooks found Alvarado for a nice 30-yard score tossing it into a tight window before the safety could come over the top with 8:20 to go. Arizona’s Josh Thomas burned Mitchell again to the tune of a 74-yard score with 6:37 to make it 14-7. Seattle would tie the game up with 3:53 to go as Wallace ran it in from 1-yard.

Seattle’s Wallace would get another 1-yard plunge with 10:54 to go in the second, but Arizona would respond with 6:58 to go as Dre Martin bounced off the left tackle and ran it for the 68-yard score. Seattle got more offensive support as Wolford ran it in from 1-yard with 3:03 to go, but Arizona again replied with 2:30 to go as Watson broke open for the 78-yard score to tie the game at 28-28 which lasted to the half.

The third was uneventful compared to the first two quarters as each team scored once. Martin scored with 10:08 to go on a 38-yard run off the left hash. Seattle responded with 4:30 to go as Gronkowski caught a post route ball for his 25-yard score.

The fourth quarter was one for the hard however. Seattle scored early with 9:16 left as Gaffney strafed the line, caught it and ran it in for the 14-yard score. Arizona scored with 5:44 to go as Rogers found Miller for the 20-yard hookup. Seattle got a field goal with 1:30 to go after they intercepted Rogers. Arizona wouldn’t be denied as Rogers found Martin on a quick slant who ran it it for the 42-yard score. Seattle was down 49-42. Seattle answered back faster than you could blink as Claybrooks found a wide open Alvarado down the right hash for the 60-yard pitch and catch with :49 to go after Arizona botched the squib kick. Seattle led 52-49. Seattle then botched their own squib kick and Arizona made them pay. All it took was 3 plays and :33 seconds as Josh Thomas made Seattle pay for the third time with a 22-yard score to put Arizona ahead 56-52. Claybrooks tried to force it over the top to Alvarado in hopes to catch lightning in a bottle twice, but rookie Phillip Jean was ready and picked off Claybrooks to secure the win.

“Our defense played horrible, and we will have to tighten the clamps if we are gonna make a deep push in the playoffs. Last year we got booted in the second round, and if our defense plays like they did against Dallas and Arizona then we might be out after the first round” — Coach Carroll

FALCONS DEFEAT RAMS TO CLAIM #1 SEED AS RAMS EEK INTO PLAYOFF DESPITE LOSS

Atlanta handled their business by defeating the Rams 27-10 on Sunday and securing the #1 seed and home-field advantage. Chicago, Philadelphia, Carolina, Seattle and St. Louis would round out the #2 through #6 spots in the NFC bracket.

Jacksonville, who had beaten Seattle in their regular season matchup would claim the #1 seed. Baltimore, Denver, Oakland, Indianapolis and the New York Jets would round out the #2 through #6 slots in the AFC bracket.

The Wild Card round would be an interesting one indeed as Indy would visit Denver, St. Louis would travel to Philadelphia, Oakland had to play in New York and despite being seed above Seattle...Carolina had to go to Seattle since Seattle won their division.

                  2017 AWARDS & ACCOLADES

Seattle players got to take home multiple awards as players were named various “Best of..” at the conclusion of the 2017 regular season

Ray Claybrooks took home NFL/NFC MVP honors as well as QB of the year for the same categories!

Calvin Wallace took home Offensive Player of the Year for the NFC/NFL, as well as Running Back of the Year for the same categories!

Kyle DeVan received Best Offensive Lineman for the NFC/NFL!

Benjamin Leon received DPoY and DBoY for both the NFC & NFL!

The names of Pro Bowl selections for Seattle was quite the who’s who:

                  QB, Ray Claybrooks
                  RB, Calvin Wallace
                  FB, Willie Wolford
                  WR, Eugene Alvarado
                  WR, Daryl Clay
                  TE, Rob Gronkowski
                  LT, Aaron Forbes
                  LG, Ray Caldwell
                  C, Max Unger
                  RG, Kyle DeVan
                  RT, Duenta Stevens
                  DT, Lamar Spark
                  MLB, Tremain Forbes
                  CB, Marcus Mitchell
                  CB, Benjamin Leon
                  FS, Andrew Buckley

FALCONS DEFEAT RAMS TO CLAIM #1 SEED AS RAMS EEK INTO PLAYOFF DESPITE LOSS

Adam Monroe, a rookie from Penn State playing right end, just took the spot as the rookie sack leader from Jevon Kearse. Javon led the league with 14.5 sacks back in 1999, was broken by Monroe. Monroe recorded a total of 16 sacks on the season!

He took home Defensive Rookie of the Year honors as well as a deserving spot on the Pro Bowl roster.

He is compared to the likes of Bruce Smith and Julius Peppers; both with historic careers in the NFL.

SEATTLE COMES BACK FROM BEHIND AND HOLDS OFF PANTHERS TO REACH DIVISIONAL ROUND

Seattle offense didn’t not play like a perennial championship contender for its first 3 quarters. If it weren’t for the defense, holding Carolina to 13 first half points while forcing a quarter of turnovers in the first half the game could’ve been over by the half.

Seattle gave up 10 points in the first quarter. With 8:52 to go, Adrian “All Day” Peterson showed off his nose for the end zone by scoring on a sweep right of 4-yards. With 5:111 to go Kelley then booted in a field goal to go up 10-0 early. Seattle got a field goal with :48 to go in the first to get on the board, 10-3.

The second quarter saw 2nd year Carolina quarterback throw a trio of interceptions. The first was nabbed by Patrick Chung. The second was corralled by Benjamin Leon, but Seattle was forced to punt...a common theme on the day. The final pick came from Marcus Mitchell, but Seattle was able to get a field goal with 1:54 to go making it 10-6. Carolina expertly picked apart Seattle to get a field goal of their own to push the lead back to 13-6.

Carolina got the ball first after the half, but Seattle forced a punt. Carolina returned the favor by forcing Seattle to punt. Carolina then struck fast and hard, as Maclin burned Mitchell for an 80-yard strike, with 8:29 to go in the 3rd. Seattle got a field goal to start chipping away at the lead with 5:24 to go. Seattle then added a touchdown with :16 to go as Wallace ran right and scored from 12-yard out. Seattle went into the final quarter trailing 20-16.

Seattle’s offense FINALLY woke up as Chung got his second interception on the day. Claybrooks then found Gronkowski on the second play of the ensuing drive for a 39-yard score. Seattle took its first lead of the game with 11:19 to go, 23-20. Seattle added to their lead after Mitchell got his second interception. Claybrooks found Daryl Clay down the left sideline for a quick 26-yard strike with 9:20. Seattle led 30-20. Seattle’s defense couldn’t stop Carolina with their next possession. Swayne, a second year pro, made a nice pass to Wilkerson who made his guy miss and walked in for a 9-yard score. Seattle led 30-27 with 6:37.

Seattle responded by extinguishing whatever momentum Carolina was trying to muster as Claybrooks connected down the right hash as Alvarado went on a ‘go-route’ as the defender bit on the play action. Alvarado went in, untouched for the 77-yard score :12 second later to go up 37-27. Seattle’s defensive star, Mitchell got his third pick on the ensuing drive as Seattle added a field goal with 1:58 to go. Seattle led 40-27. Carolina was able to score, but left little time on the clock, only :52 seconds to be exact. Craig was found by Swayne for the 8-yard score. Carolina attempted the onside kick, but Alvarado recovered it. Seattle proceeded to kneel down twice and claim victory by a final score of 40-34.

Ray Claybrooks got the offensive game ball for his 22/43 for 334 yards, 4 touchdowns, 0 interceptions

Marcus Mitchell got the defensive game ball for his 5 tackles and 3 interceptions.

“So...our defense played lights out in the first half. If it wasn’t for them, we would’ve been in a HUGE hole in the second half. All the credit goes to [Ray] Claybrooks for his gritty play and never giving up and [Marcus] Mitchell for his defensive play the whole night” Coach Carroll told the media after the game. “We go to Atlanta next week, and I know Matt Ryan won’t be as turnover prone as young Swayne was”

SEATTLE’S BIG THIRD QUARTER HELPS HAWKS SOAR HIGHER THAN FALCONS

Seattle’s offense was a lot better compared to the previous game versus the Carolina Panthers. Seattle put up points early. Nichols kicked a field goal at 8:47, followed up by a Claybrooks touchdown toss to Wallace of 2-yards at 5:00 to go up 10-0. Atlanta scored a touchdown on their next drive as Ryan found Bailey for a 17-yard strike with 2:24 to go. Seattle took their slim 10-7 lead into the second quarter.

Neither team got much traction going as both defenses made their opponents punt multiple times. Seattle got a field goal finally at 3:11, but Atlanta got their own field goal at 1:16 to keep it a 13-10 deficit. Seattle got their second touchdown with just :26 remaining on the clock as Claybrooks found Alvarado for the 8-yard score. Claybrooks drove the team 76-yards in 3 plays to make the 2-minute drill happen. Seattle’s defense got lax, allowing Matt Ryan to drive 80-yards in under :26 to let Buehler kick a 35-yard field goal as time hit 0:00 to cut Seattle’s lead to 20-13 at the half.

Seattle turned on the offensive fireworks as they dropped 20 points on Atlanta. Gaffney got a 1-yard run at 8:52, followed by a 29-yard strike from Claybrooks to Gronkowski down the seam at 6:37. Field goals were added at 3:36 and 1:02. Atlanta finally put up points as Steve Smith, the Wiley veteran caught the short pass, made Marcus Mitchell miss and took it 86-yards for the explosive score. Seattle led 40-20 going into the 4th quarter.

Matt Ryan and company burned Seattle defenders multiple times in the final frame. Ryan found Smith again for a momentum stealing 86-yard score at 9:15. Then Bailey got his second touchdown on the night on a 66-yard score to cut the Seattle lead to 40-34 at 8:09. Seattle’s defense buckled down, and forced Matt Ryan into an uncharacteristic bad throw as Leon picked him off. Gaffney scored on a 4-yard pitch to the left, but the 2-point conversion was missed. Seattle led 46-34, and that’s how the game would end after a failed 4th & Short by Atlanta.

“We played better today, and we look forward to seeing who we face next week in the Conference Finals” — Pete Carroll

“I had a good game, I saw the field well and cut down on turnovers and miscues. I’ll do my best to keep up the momentum next week” — Ray Claybrooks

Ray Claybrooks was the game MVP by tossing for 493 yards on 33/49 passing. He had 3 TDs and 1 INT.

Benjamin Leon got the defensive game ball for his 8 tackles and 1 interception

SEATTLE GOES AFTER LOMBARDI TROPHY AFTER 10-POINT VICTORY OVER EAGLES

Seattle’s game plan was simple: clock control by running the damned ball. And they succeeded as Calvin Wallace toted the rock 37 times, on his way to 143 yards on the ground. He added in 4 receptions for almost 50-yards to help Seattle control the ball for an absurd 33:08 of game time. Their defense managed to have Pro Bowl quarterback in his second year throw a trio of interceptions on the day, limiting their scoring opportunities.

Seattle got the lone score in the first quarter, as Claybrooks found Alvarado for the 46-yard connection giving Seattle a 7-0 lead after the first.

The second quarter, Seattle put up 10 points. Wallace ran it in from 1-yard at 9:16, while Nichols booted home a field goal at 1:28. Philadelphia used all three time outs, and if it wasn’t for a goal line stand by Seattle, could’ve easily had a touchdown before the half. Philadelphia had to settle for a field goal with :06 left in the half to be down 17-3.

Philadelphia got the ball first in the second half, but was forced to punt. Seattle’s Wolford ran it in for a 1-yard score at 7:31, to go up 24-3. Philadelphia then got a touchdown at 7:05, as Snell found a Calvin Johnson streaking up the seam for the 36-yard score, Seattle led 24-10. Nichols kicked a field goal at 2:28, but the Eagles scored before the end of the quarter as Langer found the end zone from 1-yard out after Jamaal Charles exited with a back injury. Philadelphia was down 17-27.

Seattle’s Claybrooks and Gronkowski was a staple in the offense as the two connected for a 23-yard touchdown with 5:18 to go. Philadelphia scored with 4:35 as Snell found Johnson again running a quick slant and took it all the way for the 45-yard score. Seattle would run out the last 4:35 as there was no denying Calvin Wallace on the ground this game.

“One more game...that was our motto when the Wildcard Round started” claimed Pete Carroll “Now one more game and we can hoist the Lombardi once again!”

Ray Claybrooks got the offensive game ball for his 333 yards passing with 3 TDs and 0 INT

Benjamin Leon got the defensive game ball for his 2 interceptions on the day.

                          SUPER BOWL WEEK!!

Seattle and Jacksonville aren’t strangers to one another. Jacksonville beat down the Seahawks in their week 2 regular season meeting in Jacksonville. The Jaguars won by a healthy margin of 65-44.

Jacksonville had only suffered two Losses on the season: week 11 in Baltimore and week 13 in San Francisco which was an upset of as Jacksonville was favored by 9 points by oddsmakers. The Jaguars defense has been stingy all year, as they rank #8 in overall defense, the defense is giving up the #4 fewest points at 15.3, while causing the #1 most forced fumbles at a staggering 24!

Seattle however is a polar opposite. Their defense is ranked dead last at #32 in overall defense and points allowed at 29.8! Their strong point is interceptions, being #1 in that category at 43! The Hawks offense has been nearly unstoppable though as they boast the #1 passing/rushing attacks in the league. The team averages 41.7 points per game on the scoreboard, and Pro Bowl players Ray Claybrooks and Calvin Wallace are no joke and feared by every defensive coordinator in the league.

CARROLL HOISTS LOMBARDI TROPHY FOR THIRD TIME

Seattle had exacted their revenge upon the Jacksonville Jaguars for the beat down the took week 2, 65-44. Seattle’s offense was just as good, and even a smidge better compared to their regular season victory. Seattle’s defense was what got a lot better. It seemed that knowing the opponent paid dividends in this prime time, all-or-nothing game. Seattle scored multiple times, in the first three quarters to pile on the points.

Nichols kicked a field goal at 5:36, but Jacksonville answered at 4:23 as DeSean Jackson burned his defender for a explosive 68-yard score. Jacksonville would let Calvin Wallace score with :18 to go in the first to take a 10-7 lead.

Jacksonville would score at 11:33 of the second quarter as Jackson would again torch Mitchell for a 79-yard score, Jacksonville led 14-10. Rob Gronkowski, as old reliable, would go straight down the right seam and catch a high thrown ball for a 39-yard score. Seattle led 17-10. Seattle would open up their lead significantly on back-to-back touchdown drives at 6:12 and 2:34. Daryl Clay would be found for a 59-yard score, then a 17-yard controversial score. The referees would initially rule it “incomplete”, but Carroll challenged the call. The replay clearly show Clay beautifully ‘toe-tap’ in the corner of the end zone for the score. Jacksonville kicked a field goal with 1:18 left to go into the locker room down 31-20.

DARYL CLAY WITH THE MASTERFUL BODY CONTROL RESULTING IN A TOE-TAP TOUCHDOWN

Seattle forced a punt on the second half kickoff. Seattle then would expand their lead, as Jake George was left alone down the left hash, for a 50-yard score, making it 38-20. Jacksonville and DeSean Jackson were unstoppable as he found some dead space in zone coverage, caught a short hook route then exploded by a defender for the 27-yard touchdown. Seattle’s lead was 38-27, with 7:41 to go.

It was than Seattle’s defense that got to play, Fredrick threw a floater, which rookie Toby Field grabbed. Not only did he grab it, but he returned it 45-yards for the pick-6 and his first ever NFL interception, Seattle’s lead ballooned to an absurd 45-27. The Jags kicked a field goal with :06 to go in the third quarter to make it 45-30.

TOBY FIELD, HIGH-STEPPING LIKE DEION SANDERS BACK IN THE DAY AS BE SCORES ON THE PICK-6

Seattle and Jacksonville had trouble finding an offensive groove on the final quarter. The Jaguars scored, with 7:05 to go, but Fredrick got sacked on the 2-pt attempt. Seattle’s lead was 45-36. Seattle then scored, to put the final nail in the coffin with 2:08 to go in the game. Claybrooks found Gronkowski for the 2-pt attempt, making the score 53-36. The 17 point lead was more then sufficient with only 2:05 to go.

The Super Bowl MVP was awarded to Ray Claybrooks for his masterful performance. He threw 5 touchdowns, 1 interception for 408 yards on 32/50 attempts.

“It’s a feeling that will never get old! All the hard work the staff, and players have put in this season. We will revel and enjoy this, and then our staff will get back to work getting ready for the draft and everything else done in the off-season. I can’t wait for the parade to happen when we land back in the Great Pacific Northwest BABY!” — Pete Carroll after the game he exclaimed to the reporters.

Next the game MVP Claybrooks was introduced, “WOOOOOOO!!” he would scream into the mic. We did it, and I hope Seattle is ready to party!”

                              COACHING MUSICAL CHAIRS

Seattle still had their main man Pete Carroll locked up for 2 more years. The rest of the crew; offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator and special teams coach would all be vacant for one reason or another.

Offensive coordinator Mike Martz, was sought after by the Miami Dolphins to become their next offensive coordinator. Miami would couple Mike Martz with Mike Nolan in hopes to turn them from an 8-8 team of three straight season and get them into the playoffs. Seattle looked around the league and who Mike replace Martz should he walk, Seattle saw former player Tory Holt wanting to break into the coaching scene, as well as longtime head coach Mike Shanahan available as well, but would he mind be an OC and not a HC was the question.

At the end of the day, they offered Mike Martz a 2 year contract worth $1.5M to stay their offensive coordinator.

Their defensive coordinator, Romeo Crennel was being pursued by the Detroit Lions, who’d finished a horrible 6-10 last year. They hope, that Romeo’s knowledge of defense would get them back on track in a tough division. Seattle saw that Darren Sharper, former player had been coaching for a few years in Pittsburgh and Oakland. He’d compiled decent records and was always a ‘student of the game’. Romeo would cost them, upwards of $5M/year to keep him as a coordinator, so Seattle decided to go with a hunger guy in Sharper who showed great promise as a coordinator. The deal was finalized for 2 years, $1.2M as the Jets couldn’t compete since Seattle had just won the Super Bowl.

Special Teams coach, Marciano had his contract simply expire. Seattle would let him test the market, and the dismal Houston Texans hopes that he would ignite their special teams play. John Harbaugh would firmly worked with Ravens as head coach and the past two years as the Raiders ST guy was hired by Seattle. Hopefully he could help fix Glen Nichols and get him back on track.

NOTABLE COACHING CHANGES AROUND THE LEAGUE

Seattle wasn’t the only team that shuffled around their coordinators. There was a slew of teams that changed HC and other staff in preparation for next year.

Rob Ryan was signed by the horrendous Houston Texans to become their next HC. Rob Ryan was the Cardinals head coach from 2012-2016 and had not had a season with a winning record. He was probably happy to be out of the NFC West and not see Seattle or San Francisco looking down upon him.

Romeo Crennel became the head coach of the Detroit Lions, who went 6-10 last year. Detroit would hope he could turn around the team as being some of the “Seahawk Swagger” to town.

Mike Singletary, who was a DC for the Saints from 2014-2017 would get a contract extension for another 2 years.

Ken Wisenhunt became the new OC for the Patriots; after failing to record a winning season as the Texans HC the previous 3 years. Maybe he could reassure the his career.

A pair of former players in Antoine Winfield and Sedrick Ellis would continue their young coaching careers. Winfield with the New York Jets and Ellis in Denver.

Tory Holt would become the OC for Miami after Miami couldn’t pry Martz from Seattle.

Randy Moss, would become Baltimore’s newest OC. It’s would be Moss’ first coaching gig.

LaDainian Tomlinson would continue his OC duties in the Nations’s capital for another 2 years.

                                RETIRING PLAYERS

Like every season, players hang up the cleats and begin a new chapter in their life. This year would be no different as players decided enough was enough. There were players headlining the list, whom would be future hall of fame enshrined, while others would simply be in Wikipedia files or forgotten.
