TTU CLAIMS 6TH BIG 12 TITLE

Coach Scott missed out on the Big 12 title game his first year at TTU despite a 10-2 finish but the Red Raiders went on to win their first National Championship (2028).. TTU then rolled off 5 in a row on their way to 4 straight National Championships before losing last year's title game to K-State in a matchup of the unbeatens, only to get their revenge in the playoffs on their way to Natty #6.

Now the question is will this victory lead to Natty #7 or will this be a flashback to 2029 when TTU lost to Wisconsin in Round 2 of the playoffs?

    GAME RECAP

SMU opened the game with a 7 play drive that ended in a 17 yd TD from SO QB Patrick Heiden (82) to SR WR Enqriue Ortega (83) giving the Mustangs the early (7-0) lead.

SMU would extend the lead to (10-0) early in the 2nd Quarter as SO PK Denard Bagent (75) hits a 25 yd FG after the Mustangs fail on back to back endzone shots.

Texas Tech with 2:12 to play in the half finally got on the scoreboard as the offense coming off a 63 point performance against Baylor struggled to move the ball in 8-9 defenders in the box at all times shutting down the potent TTU rushing attack led by SO Nico Souza, Souza broke his longest run of the day taking it 10 yds for the sore to make it (10-7) at the half.

Souza finished the first half with 9 carries for 28 yds a career low.

TTU opened up the 2nd half with the ball, but quickly gave it away as McFadden throws just his 8th INT of the season, and SMU capitalized as they extend their lead to (17-7) as QB Patrick Heiden shows off his running skills with a 23 yd TD run.

Still trailing (17-7) TTU would close the gap to (17-10) early in the 4th as Jimmy Chosen hits a 37 yd FG. Then it was the TTU "D" coming up big as RS FR Jimmy Walker picks up his 5th INT of the season picking off Heiden with 7 minutes to play in the game.

With SMU still loading the box to shut down Souza, TTU goes to the air as McFadden delivers the game tying TD hitting C. Smyth on a 19 yd strike to make it (17-17) with 4 minutes to play.

SMU had it's chance to win the game but facing a 56 yd FG attempt on a 4th and 2, the Mustangs left the offense on the field and the TTU D steps up tackling SR RB M. Rucci (90 ovr) in the backfield for a 1 yd loss, as Texas Tech takes over on downs.

Despite a tied game, SMU continued to load the box leaving their corners one on one on the outside and McFadden and "King" Felix Addison make them pay as the duo hooks up for a 49 yd TD to give Texas Tech the (24-17) lead with 1:17 to play after forcing SMU to burn all of their timeouts.

Needing 80 yards in just over a minute with no timeouts, Heiden chokes under pressure as SMU once again turns the ball over on downs...

Heiden finishes the day 15/26 (57%) for 166 yds with 1 TD, 1 INT and 1 rushing TD.

    FINAL SCORE TTU-24 SMU-17

(9-3) Boise State finished the year #9 in the rankings and as they get the #9 seed and a 1st Round matchup with #8 (12-1) Toledo, setting up a potential rematch with Coach Scott and Texas Tech in Round 2.

(12-1) Tennessee finished the year #6 and gets the #6 seed. They will host #11 (9-4) SMU who secures a spot in the playoffs despite the loss to TTU in the Big 12 title game, giving the conference 3 teams.

(10-2) Washington finished the season ranked #7 and secures the #7 seed as they will host #10 (11-2) Georgia after their OT loss to the Tide. Should the Huskies get past the Bulldogs they will get a rematch with #2 Oregon in Round 3 as the Pac-12 matches the Big 12 with 3 teams in the playoffs.

That brought us down to our final team.

BRONCOS GET THEIR REVENGE AND SNAP TTU'S STREAK!!

Coach Scott entered the game 2-0 against his former team beating the Broncos back in 2032 in the 2nd Round of the playoffs on their way to TTU's 3rd straight Natty and a Week 2 victory over Boise on "The Blue" this year (34-17).

But tonight the Broncos got their revenge handing the Red Raiders just their 2nd loss in the playoffs in 8 seasons.

                GAME RECAP

TTU jumped out to the early (7-0) lead as McFadden hits Craigh Smythe on a 57 yd bomb. The Red Raiders then extended the lead to (14-0) as McFadden and Smythe hook up for TD #2. Boise State would answer back though as Reinbolt leads a 10 play drive that is capped off by backup SR RB Kevin Ogle's 1 yd TD dive to make it (14-7). After forcing TTU to settle for a 33 yd FG to make it (17-7), BSU again goes to the ground game as JR RB Gabe Anzalone (86) breaks a 28 yd run for the score to make it (17-14) with 2:12 to play in the half.

Texas Tech opened up the 2 minute offense with 4 straight pass's to get the ball inside Chosen's FG range but McFadden wanted a touchdown as he looks for Felix Addison on the go route, but JR CB Kevin Viera (90 ovr) was ready as the Abilene Texas native picks off the pass inside the endzone.

Now it was Boise State's turn to decide. Run out the clock and go into the half down (17-14) or try for a big play, Reinbolt made it easy as he hits Marquis Gado on a 67 yd bomb to give the Broncos the (21-17) lead at the half.

Boise State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and quickly settled on a 39 yd FG by SR Juan Mahoney (86) to extend the lead to (24-17) and the both Defense's went to work as the 2 teams combine for 4 punts to finish out the 3rd Quarter.

TTU opened up the 4th with a McFadden to Addison TD (12 yd) to tie the game (24-24) but Boise State answered back with a 13 play drive that ends with Ogle's 2nd rushing TD of the day (4 yds) as BSU retakes the lead (31-24) leaving 6:41 to play. Coach Scott knew it was going to come down to whoever had the ball last, so TTU wasted little time using just 5 plays before McFadden throws TD #4 to TE Deontae Levine (19 yds) to tie the game (31-31) with 4:48 to play.

Boise State already with 2 double digit time killing drives on the day goes back to work using a combination of runs and pass's to move the ball down field, as TTU is forced to use all 3 of their timeouts before Reinbolt hits Gado on a 8 yd strike as BSU goes up by 7. TTU left with just 47 seconds to play and no timeouts goes to a 5 WR set, as McFadden fires 2 completions to Carl Chunn to move the ball past the 50 but a pair of drops by Levine and Addison after a 5 yd sack sets up a 4th and 15, and the Bronco D comes up with a huge stop.

FINALS SCORE BOISE STATE-38 TEXAS TECH-31

                TE A. Pippen-5 rec 38 yds
                CB A. Viera- INT

                Coach Scott
"I got to give Coach D credit.. They came up with a game plan and stuck with it. The 3rd Quarter was weird as neither of us could really move the ball but then we found some cracks in their D and they found some in ours. Souza was playing great and we probably should've gotten him more carries. All I can do is accept the loss and move on.. The Broncos have my support moving on, if anyone is going to win the Natty besides us, I would want it to be them."

                OTHER 2ND ROUND RESULTS

#5 Texas falls short as #4 Penn State kicks a FG to win the game (31-30) after a late 4th Quarter INT by Texas QB David Euhus. Euhus would end the day (26/41 63%) for 355 yds with 4 TD and 2 INT

#3 Alabama holds off #6 Tennessee (21-19) in a Defensive battle. The Vols kicked a late 4th Quarter FG down (21-16) but failed to convert the onside kick for a chance at the victory.

#7 Washington gets it's revenge defeating #2 Oregon (32-20) after entering the 4th down (20-19) Duck's JR QB Trumaine Lampkin (85) throws 6 INT in the loss including 3 in the 4th Quarter.

BRONCOS PULL OFF 4TH QUARTER WIN!!!

#9 Seed Boise State is headed back to the National Championship for the first time since 2028 as they defeat #4 seed Penn State (31-28). Tied (28-28) at the end of the 3rd Quarter, BSU forces 2 turnover on Downs late in the 4th, setting up a 52 yd FG by SR PK Juan Mahoney (86) for the win.

SR QB Mike Reinbolt was 18/26 (69%) for 279 yds with 3 TD in well the duo of SR RB Kevin Ogle (13 carries 56 yds) and JR RB G. Anzalone (10 carries 45 yds) provide a balance attack on the ground.

TIDE ROLL THEIR WAY TO NATTY CHANCE!!

Once a National Power, Alabama has fallen on tough times in this Dynasty as the school is on their 4th HC in 12 seasons after Nick Saban retired after 17 seasons and a 201-29 record.

But the Tide put it all together this season winning their first SEC Championship and with a (31-13) win over Washington their season isn't done yet.

                    BOISE STATE CLAIMS ANOTHER NATTY!!

Boise State has officially turned it's self into a National Powerhouse program. Since the start of the 12 team playoffs in 2024, BSU has made the playoffs in 10 of the 12 seasons winning back to back titles in 2026 and 2027 with Coach Scott as the Broncos OC. Now BSU has won it's 3rd title but 1st since Scott departure to TTU.

Tied (13-13) at the half, Boise State scored 14 unanswered in the 3rd Quarter as the BSU "D" comes up with 2 INT's. to take a (27-13) lead and matched the Tides 10 points in the 4th for a (37-23) victory.

What makes the game even more remarkable, is BSU did it without starting QB Mike Reinbolt (88) who left the game in the 1st Quarter.

Former 5* Jakeel Palko (81) , a Boise Idaho native signed with BSU hoping to be the next Kellen Moore, but instead Palko spent 4 seasons as a reserve losing the starting job battle this past spring to Reinholt who was also a 5* from Corona CA.

                    Coach D
"Jakeel could've left and probably started for over half the teams in the country, but he stuck it out and well it sucked for Reinholt's season to end the way it did, we knew that the offense wouldn't miss a beat with Jakeel in the game."
Palko would finish the game 15/27 (55%) for 198 yds with 2 TD and 1 INT...

Doubley so with it being Boise State.

But even Saban didn't win them all. I have no doubt TTU will be back in the same spot next year

                        END OF THE YEAR RECAP

                        EARLY ENTRIES/DRAFT RESULTS

Anytime you land talented 5* Recruits you know odds are you won't get a full 4 seasons out of them. Sometimes you might only get 1 or 2. That was the case for RB Nico Souza.

Souza was buried behind Netori Morton and Sean Byham as a RS Freshman spending the year on special teams, but once he got RB1 he ran with it, posint over 1700 yds and a combined 21 TD's (17 RTD,4 PTD). Those #'s are good enough to make him a 1st Round pick.

JR WR Craig Smythe showed off his big play potential as a RS Freshman scoring 5 TD's well posting a 23 yd per catch avg. He followed it up with over 800 yds and 8 TD's as a Sophomore and broke out this season leading the team with 52 receptions for 1487 yds and 14 TD's.. He is projected as a 2nd Round Pick, as he joins Senior Felix Addison in the Draft.

The projections hold as Souza goes in the 1st, he is joined by SR RG Lamont Marvin., Smythe is joined by JR LG Lanny Katua in the 2nd Round, Addison and SR MLB Tyrone Bettis both end up going in the 4th.

                        RECRUITING RECAP

With 3 more scholarships opening up, Texas Tech went into the off-season with 16 scholarships filled and the #2 rated class.. But Coach Scott went ahead and offered up 7 scholarships including 6 to Portal Transfers as TTU comes away with the #1 Overall Class for the 4th time in 8 seasons as TTU signs 23 players (7-5*,14-4*-1-3*)

Here is a look at the 6 Transfers

                        4* 6'3 198lb (SO) WR George Shuler (#2 ranked)-Colorado

TTU also signed 4* MLB Johnny Cash (#232 Overall/#3 CO/#14 MLB) from Parker CO.

                        Coach Scott
"Anytime you can sign guy's away from teams inside your conference it's a good thing. We are excited. Schuler gives us another solid option at WR with Smythe and Addison both coming off the dept chart, Blunt and McMullen will help strengthen our depth on the O-Line and Lincoln, Maggio and Cash give us alot more depth at Linebacker which I feel we will need next year with the kind of year Jimmy Walker and and with Joshua Alli going into his Senior season"

                            CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT!!

IN 2025 we saw some major conference changes after just 1 season, with teams heading back to the Pac-12, Texas, Oklahoma and TAMU rejoining the Big 12 and the ACC going to 20 team Conference.

Well know we are making some changes again. As NCAA Commish Deuce Jungling looks give the playoff's possibly some new life, starting with the ACC which saw no teams make the 2035 playoffs.

One major change will be no more divisions as Conference Championships will be between the 2 teams with the Best Conference Record.

Another major change will be the ACC, SEC, Pac-12, Big Ten, Big 12, American, CUSA and Mountain West will all have 14 Teams, well the Mid American will have 12 and the Sun Belt will have 9, as Western Kentucky becomes the only Independent.

                              2036 SEASON PREVIEW

                              TOP-25

For the 1st time in the past 7 seasons Texas Tech will not start the year #1, as Alabama takes the the top spot with (44) votes leaving Texas Tech (31) votes as #2.

Instate rival Texas will start #3 followed by Auburn at #4 and Defending National Champion Boise State rounds out the Top-5.

                              (Overall/Offense/Defense)

                              #1 Alabama (92/92/92)

                              #5 Boise State (89/89/90)
                              #6 Oregon (91/91/91)
                              #7 Penn State (89/89/90)

                              #9 Georgia (89/89/90)
                              #10 Wisconsin (86/87/86)
                              #11 Toledo (84/85/84)

                              #13 Washington (85/85/85)
                              #14 SMU (84/84/85)
                              #15 Kentucky (84/86/84)
                              #16 Georgia Tech (81/81/81)
                              #17 Kansas (82/84/81)
                              #18 Missouri (85/85/85)
                              #19 Oklahoma (88/87/89)
                              #20 NC State (84/85/84)
                              #21 Purdue (83/82/84)
                              #22 Michigan (89/90/89)
                              #23 Virginia Tech (84/84/84)
                              #24 Miami (90/90/90)
                              #25 LSU (90/90/90)

With 10 of their 14 teams in the Top-25 to start the year it will be very interesting to see how the SEC shakes out this season.

Interesting to see not a single team from the American or CUSA and only 2 teams from the ACC starting the year in the Top-25. With the newly created conference, it will be interesting to see who or if any emerge and make it into the polls and playoffs by the end of the year.

                              THE SCHEDULE

With the newly created Big 12 conference and the doing away from Divisions, we see a completely different schedule for the Red Raiders this season.

TTU will still open it's year playing it's first 3 games outside the Big 12 starting in Week 2 vs #6 Oregon followed by a road trip to #4 Auburn in Week 3 followed by a home game vs North Texas in Week 4.

TTU kept it's Week 5 "Bye" Week before starting Big 12 play.

Texas Tech will kickoff Big 12 play against a new member playing #17 Kansas in Lawrence in Week 6 before returning home for the "Battle for the Saddle vs TCU in Week 7.

TTU will then road home and way with a matchup @ #19 Oklahoma in Week 8, vs #3 Texas in Week 9, @ Baylor in Week 10, then home vs Iowa in Week 11 @ TAMU in Week 12 before returning home for their final 2 games of the season hosting Oklahoma State in Week 13 before hosting Colorado in Week 14 for this year's "Senior Night"

This year's roster is loaded with 85 players including 13 Seniors/23 Juniors/19 Soph's and a combination of 30 Redshirt and True Freshman.

TTU returns RS SO Curtis McFadden at QB but rumors are coaches were so impressed with RS SR Junior Tu'kolvatau this spring that they named him a Team Captain.

                              Coach Scott
"JT had a off week last year in Week 1 and Curtis came in and took the starting reigns and never really gave them back, but this team, myself and my staff are big believers in JT. It's pretty tough to sit a guy down who threw for almost 4000 yds with 47 TD and 9 INT last season, but we as a staff believe it's important to keep JT involved in our offense not just in garbage minutes in the 4th Quarter. "Mac" (McFadden) is a talented athlete and if we can, we are going to find ways to get both players on the field at the same time. "Mac" showed his ability to run (264 yds 3 TD) last season and we believe he could be a bigger asset in our run game maybe sharing the backfield with JT at times. He also has shown the ability to catch the ball, so we could also line him up on the outside and maybe see them work together that way as well"
With Nico Souza gone as RB1, Rashaad Hollliday and Rico Hentges have some big shoes to fill. Holliday showed promise last year with 102 carries for 440 yds (4.3 avg) with 4 TD's, but also look for RS JR Ezekiel Warmack to take on a bigger role. Warmack had 35 carries for 191 yds (5.5 avg) and 6 TD's last season and showed he could be more then just a short yardage Goal line type back.

With Felix Addison and Craig Smythe now playing on Sunday, TTU is looking for a new #1WR.

JR Carl Chunn saw limited action as a RS FR (18 rec 250 yds 1 TD) but broke out last year as the teams #2 posting 54 rec for 1041 yds and 9 TD.

TTU also signed JR George Shuler out of the transfer Portal from Colorado. Shuler has been pretty solid his first 2 years in Boulder posting a combined (92 receptions for 1294 yds and 11 TD's over 2 seasons.

With Chunn and Shuler taking WR1 and 2 duties, that leaves RS SO Dennis Erving to take on the #3 role as the slot WR. Erving posted just 4 rec for 47 yds last year but 3 of those catches went for scores.

TTU is looking to replace it's Top-2 TE's this season and former WR Tye Tompkins is getting the first crack at TE1, well RS SR Dell Paxton will most likely take on TE2.

The Red Raiders graduate 4 starters from last year's 0-Line but that doesn't mean the unit is without talent. Many believe every single one of this year's starters will play on Sunday at some point.

This year's D-Line returns all 3 starters. Well both Alex Mathis and Jesus Castillo showed glimpses of 5* ability they only combined for 7 sacks last year.

Look for the TTU Linebacker Unit to once again carry the load. MLB Jimmy Walker and OLB Joshua Alli are both expected to be Top picks in the Draft. Many were surprised by Alli's return after winning the National POY Award last season well leading the team with 14 Sacks., well Walker finished with a team high 87 Tackles, 8 TFL, 4 Sacks and 5 INT's.

The Secondary will have a few new faces this year, but the Teddy Beckford is back to lead the way. With 8 career INT's many believe he could be a 1st Round pick in next year's draft. Former 5* Recruit Jaylen Swaim last out last season and is moving to the starting SS role this year. Only a RS SO, many believe he like fellow classmate Jimmy Walker could see their named called next year in the draft as well.

True Freshman Landry Erwin is the only member of the 2035 class that will be active this season as the backup SS.

                              RECRUITING PREVIEW

With only 13 Seniors and a full roster of 85 players it doesn't appear that the 2036 class will be huge. Probably 15 players with the potential of a few scholarships opened up from early entries to the Draft. Coach Scott and TTU have been pretty blessed so far in 8 years with not really have to many people join the transfer portal on their own and are still very active in trying to limit the # of suggested transfers at the end of the season.

                              Coach Scott
"I believe we do a pretty good job of identifying the guy's we want and doing our best to coach them up and keep them here in Lubbock for 4 years. Granted yes we have quite a few guy's who have decided that the NFL is their future and their dreams and we will always support that, but I personally don't want to see guy's I recruit wearing another college team's uniform or potentially playing them in a game. I believe if a player makes a commitment to us as a school we need to commit them and as a coach it's my job to coach these kids up"

RED RAIDERS OFFENSE DOMINATES DUCKS AS TTU OPENS UP SEASON WITH A BIG WIN!!

Alot of experts wondered just how good Texas Tech's Offense would be coming off the loss of starting RB Nico Souza gone as well as Top WR's Felix Addison and Craig Smythe as well as TE Deontae Levine.

Well TTU wasted little time showing them, as the Red Raiders produce 542 Yards (382 passing and 160 rushing) picking up 29 1st Downs on their way to 5 Touchdowns on the day

                                GAME RECAP

Despite 2 early INT's by McFadden, TTU still managed to take a (21-10) lead in the 1st half as the TTU Defense picks off SR Trumane Lampkin (86 ovr) as SR CB Cesar Flores grabs 1 and MLB Jimmy Walker picks off the other.

Despite throwing 2 INT's McFadden's 1st half was pretty impressive as he goes 12/16 for 242 yds with TD's to TE Tye Tompkins (22 yds) and WR Carl Chunn (17 yds), well RB1 Rashaad Holliday ends the half with 82 yds and 1 TD.

Holliday kept things rolling in the 2nd half as the SO RB scores 2 more times well carrying the ball a career high 31 times for 164 yds

Oregon would manage a pair of scores midway through the 4th to narrow the lead to (35-24) as Lampkin hits Chad Kubila on a 75 yd bomb and then finds Emilo Estes on a 39 yd score but late in the 4th, Lampkin is hit hard by SS Jaylen Swam as the ball is knocked lose as the Ducks turn the ball over for a 3rd time.
