    OTHER 2ND ROUND RESULTS

#1 Texas won the Big 12 showdown in the Sugar Bowl beating #9 Texas Tech (35-28) to spoil the rematch of TTU vs BSU but setup a matchup of West vs Pianalto.

Pianalto (31/42 423 yds 4 TD 2 INT) helped UT win the game but technically TTU QB Geoge Felix (26/37 409 yds 5 TD) won the head to head matchup.

FR WR Dominick Flott had 7 rec for 203 yds and 2 TD in the loss.

#3 Georgia ended #6 Rice's run at perfection with a (41-27) win in the Peach Bowl..

I didn't start getting into football until my late teens and that Boise State vs Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl was one of the first college football games I really watched. Instant classic

Nice job rolling through Oregon and Maryland

What's funny was my wife and I had only been married for 2 years and she understood my desire to spend the money to go to the game, but I actually ended up buying a big screen TV we could both enjoy and stayed home and watched it with her and a bunch of friends.

I honestly am not sure what to do in regards to the playoffs. I would love to go but at the same time I don't want to spend thousands of dollars in air line tickets hotel and game tickets just to watch them potentially lose. I am not a big believer in Madsen to be able to win a game if the opposing team shuts down Jeanty. Right now I am more leaning toward heading to the Semi Finals assuming they get a 1st Round Bye and then win their game. Plus it's over New Years so lots easier to get time off from work. But yeah the Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl will go down as one of the best games ever..

          BRONCOS HEADED TO THE NATTY!!!

Anthony Pianalto might have won the Heisman over George West, but West led the Broncos past the Longhorns in the Semi-Finals as he helps get BSU back to the Natty.

          Coach Scott
"George was a true freshman on the 2035 National Championship team but saw no action as he redshirted, so for him to go out and win 2 Heisman's but and come back for his Senior season this is something special. I know for him the only way way I want to see his career end is holding a Championship trophy in his hands."

          GAME RECAP

Texas took the early lead scoring on the opening drive making it (7-0) and extended the lead to (14-0) before BSU would score 17 unanswered to close out the 1st half taking a (17-14) lead into the locker room.

Both QB's threw 2 TD's a piece in the 1st half but it was Pianalto's INT that was the difference maker in helping BSU to taking the lead and those 3 points were the difference maker.

It was a Defense Battle in the 2nd half as neither team did much with BSU still leading (20-17) as we head to the 4th. Texas would tie the game with 6:42 to play (20-20) but Boise State answers with a 13 play drive that ends with a 22 yd FG by Ybarra to give BSU the lead.

Boise State actually had another chance at putting 3 more points on the board with under 2 minutes to play by Ybarra's kick hits the upright from 38 yds out.

Texas had a chance to tie the game and force OT but SR PK David Colon (84 Ovr) 46 yd attempt is wide left as BSU holds on for the win.

          FINAL SCORE BSU-20 TEXAS-17

          KEY PLAYERS

          QB G. West-16/24 (66%) 204 yds 2 TD,
          RB D. Gash-17 carries 27 yds
          WR L Silatolu-5 rec 77 yds 1 TD
          WR J. Gedeon-5 rec 65 yds
          WR. D Brutus-1 rec 7 yds 1 TD
          TE J. Merling-5 rec 55 yds
          CB J. Bagent-1 INT
          DE D. Gallo-4 Sacks

          OHIO STATE ADVANCES

The Buckeyes are headed to the Natty. The last 15 years have been tough on the Buckeyes. Once considered to be a National Power program, Ohio State hasn't won a Natty since 2014 and havn't played in a National Championship since 2020.

The Buckeyes in my game always seem to under perform. Oddly I've only played them three times in my dynasty, but none of the games have been close

Hopefully you can bring the Natty back to BSU, then the RL Broncos go on a run and do the same

              WEST WRITES STORYBOOK ENDING!!

George West get's his storybook ending as the guides Boise State to their 4th National Championship. For Coach Scott getting the win as a HC was even more special then the 2 he help get as a OC as he too adds another chapter to his legendary career..

              GAME RECAP

Boise State jumped out to a commanding (21-0) lead in the 1st Quarter and looked like they were going to run away with it, but Ohio State battled back to tie the game (21-21) with 1:42 to play in the 1st half but West and Brutus already with a hat trick (3 TD's) on the day hook up for 1 more in the final seconds (54 yds) to give BSU the (28-21) lead.

BSU opened up with the ball in the 2nd half as West throws TD #5 this time hitting Redshirt Freshman Jameson Gedeon who stepped into the starting lineup with Tyron Combs hurt giving BSU a (35-21) lead on the opening drive and a Ybarra 33 yd FG late in the 3rd would make it (38-21) as we had to the 4th.

Ohio State would continued to fight as JR QB Antonio Prude (87) throws his 4th TD of the day hitting SO WR Dell Ibrahim for his 3rd TD (6 rec 144 yds 3) to make it (38-28) with 5:12 to play but Boise State answers back with a 12 play drive capped off by a 5 yd TD run by Cone to make it a 3 score game.

SR CB Kenan Vaughn would then seal the deal with 1:12 to play by picking off Prude...Ball game over as BSU runs out the clock.

Prude finished the game 18/29 (62%) with 285 yds 4 TD and 1 INT

                RECORD BOOKS

George West sets a new Boise State record for most Yards in a career and TD's in a career surpassing Malachi Nelson who set the records during Coach Scott's first 4 years as OC. Nelson still holds the single season record of most yards with 4907.

West also sets a new Pac-12 TD record in a season with (54) as well as a new BSU single season record. *West also has the single game record of 8 TD's set in 2038.

Damion Brutus finished 1 TD shy of matching Maurice Long's Pac-12 and BSU record of 26, but Brutus did put his name in the Boise State record books with 100 receptions and 1566 yds in a single season.

                OC MOVING ON

Just 1 year after winning the Broyles Award, OC Cedrick Canaday is leaving Boise State for the University of Houston. The Cougars finished 7-6 in the Big 12 last season.

                NFL BOUND

Boise State had 5 players drafted, with zero underclassman declaring.

LT Keenan Tompkins (96) went in the 1st Round. West (90) dropped all the way to the 3rd.

RG Greg Wimbley (89) goes in the 4th, well CB Kean Vaugh (89) goes in the 5th.

RB Anthony Perez (89) is taken in the 6th.

                  LSU FIRES COACH SPENCER DANIELSON

LSU gave Spencer Danielson just 2 years after a very successful 14 year career with Boise State. The Tigers finished just 7-5 during the regular season and fell in their bowl game which was the last straw for the Tigers fan base and Alum's.

Danielson however was quickly snatched up by Middle Tennessee State.

BOISE STATE ADDS 5 FROM THE PORTAL

Boise State looking to add some more players to their O-Line and deepen their RB depth went hard in the transfer portal and game away with 5 players.

BSU tried to land former 4* RB Chris Emanuel from Nevada, but Emanuel signed with Texas, leaving the Broncos to settle for 3* TR SO RB Maurice Gwacham from UCLA. Listed at 5'11 234 lbs Gwhacham is from Harbor City CA

Looking to replace 4 Seniors starters off the 0-Line, BSU lands 4* TR JR David Lafell (Troy) a 6'2 330 lb originially from Graham WA and 4* TR FR Andrew Philbin (Arizona State) who is listed at 6'5 320 lbs from San Jose CA.

Despite already having signed (2) 5* OLB's in this year's class, BSU doubled down and snagged 2 more LB's off the Transfer Portal signing 4* OLB Antwuan Green (Alabama) the #4 recruit in the Portal. Green a JR originally from Richardson Texas had Texas and TTU as his other Top-3 schools.

BSU didn't stop there adding 4* MLB Quincy Onwuzurkie (Louisville) the #42 Recruit in the portal. Q.O. is originally from Lexington and is listed at 6'0 230lbs.

Georgia receives 43 votes, Texas got 37 and Texas Tech had 25.. Looks like the voters are overlooking the Coach Scott effect.. But that's okay.. How and why Miami continues to stay above a 90 Overall every year is mind boggling. The won the Natty back in 2024 but havn't done anything for 16 season except make the the playoffs as a 2-3 loss team and then lose in the 1st round.

Questions. Can Rice make another run at a perfect season? With 3 teams from the American in the Top-25 it doesn't look good. What's up with Appalachian State and James Madison starting in the Top-25. Will Maryland continue to dominate the ACC or will the Mountaineers become a premier Top-25 program?

Congrats on the first Natty as the BSU HC

You guys have the squad to repeat based on the overall, weird how you guys come in at #4.

I wish you could hire fired coaches as coordinators. I've read somewhere if you fire your OC/DC before the CFP you could have the chance to sign fired head coaches, but if you wait until after the season they are all scooped up. Have never tried it myself so not sure if its true or not

                            BOISE STATE 2040 MEDIA GUIDE

                            THE SCHEDULE

After playing just 5 games at home last year including ending the season with 3 straight road games, Boise State receives a flip flop schedule this year playing with 6 home games (2 out of conference 4 in conference) playing 3 straight at home in Week 10-12.

BSU will kickoff the season in Week 0 as the Broncos host #6 Florida in a Top-10 showcase to start the season.

Boise State will then travel to Houston and Rice Stadium to take on the #19 ranked Owls in Week 1 followed by a return trip back to Boise for a Week 2 matchup with Oklahoma as the Broncos close out non-conference play.

BSU will kickoff Pac-12 play in Week 3 with a road trip to Fresno as the Broncos look to secure their 3rd straight Milk Can Trophy since Scott's return.

BSU will then have Sandwich "Bye" Weeks in Wee 4 and 6 with a road trip to L.A. and the Rose Bow to take on UCLA.

After the Week 6 "Bye" BSU again hits the road for a trip to Eugene to take on the #17 ranked Ducks before returning home Boise for a Week 8 matchup with #18 Washington followed by anothe road trip to take on the Utah Utes in Week 9 @ Rice-Eccles.

After just 1 game at home in a 7 week span, BSU will get 3 straight home games as the Broncos host Arizona in Week 10 followed by #21 Cal and then Washington State for "Senior Day in Week 12.

BSU will end it's season @ Oregon State in Week 13.

SPRING GAME FINDS BRONCOS A NEW STAR?

The Spring game gave Broncos their first chance to see Redshirt Freshman Salesi Battle in action and the former 5* delivered beating out RS SR Morgan Forsett for the starting job.

                            Coach Scott
" Battle looked great.. At 6'5 221 lbs he has all the tools as we look to install some new offensive looks this season. To be honest well we are totally settled on Battle as our #1, the backup job is still up for debate. Forsett has the experience but we really love how quick RS SO Eric Nielson is on his feet and I am still a big believer in RS FR George Rodriguez as well."

Well many think the new star is going be QB Salesi Battle, the person who has everyone talking including the voters for the Pre-Season All-American publications, is Redshirt Sophomore Quan Clifford. The former 4* WR from Aurora Colorado made the switch to RB and instantly climb the depth chart to #1 (Went from being a 81 WR to a 93 RB). Listed at 5'9 209 lbs, Clifford has all the tools to be a 3 down back for the Broncos.

Coaches love him so much that he was granted the coveted #2 jersey and teammates named him a Team Captain.

                            A NEW LOOK ON OFFENSIVE

When Coach Scott was at BSU as the OC, the Broncos ran a Multiple Set Offense. When Scott left for TTU he adapted in alot of TTU's Air Raid attack creating a custom playbook that took advantage of the talent he was recruiting. Now with 1st year OC Steven Kerr joining the team, reports are BSU will look to add in some new looks as Kerr brings back some plays from your more proto typical Pro Style Offense

What I wish was that they gave you a budget to offer contracts to other coaches. So if let's say I saw that the OC at a small school just helped guide his team to a Top-10 Passing season or rushing season you could offer them a contract to come to your school and yes I wish I had more to choose from then like 5 guys who are all level 19 and like C- Overalls, but the after 2 or 3 years of us winning and winning Natty's they leave and then I get a crappy grade for Coaching stability. My Stability was a D- after having my OC leaving.

As far as the rankings go.. Yeah I don't understand I am the Best Overall and the Defending National Champ.. Yeah I lost my QB, Top-2 RB's and Top-2 WR's plus 3 O-Line starters and a couple Defensive starters, but I have also had the last 2 #1 Recruiting Class's, so it's not like my roster is dog water.

                                (Overall Rating) (R)=Redshirting this season.

                                QUARTER BACK

Former 5* Salesi Battle gets the first crack at replacing 4 year starter George West who set new school records for Passing Yards and TD's in a career as Pac-12 records.

SR Morgan Forsett (former 3*) and RS SO Eric Nielson (former 4*) will get the first shot at the #2 job.

                                Coach Scott
"Well none of the QB's on the roster have yet to throw a real game pass for us, I feel strong about the guy's we have. I am no stranger to RS Freshman QB's I have some experience with a couple during my time at TTU (GNK, Vildor, McFadden) and even my first time here at Boise with Malachi Nelson. I think Battle will be just fine"
                                RUNNING BACK

RS SO Quan Clifford moved from WR to RB this spring after catching just 1 pass last year (4 yds). The former 4* has impressed everyone so far as Pac-12 officials named him as a 1st Team Pac-12 All-American "Pre Season".

Former QB, SR Wayne Cone impressed when he finally took the field last year rushing for 305 yds and 5 TD before going down with a broken hand.

Former 3* Dalton Gash started as RB1 in the playoffs and finished with over 300 yds and 5 TD's on the season as well.

UCLA transfer JR Maurice Gwacham had 37 carries for 116 yds with 5 TD's in his 2 seasons with the Bruins. He will most likely take over Goal line duties from FB Earl Pitts.

                                WIDE RECEIVER/TIGHT END

Former 5* Tyron Combs was the only player from the 2039 Recruiting Class to play as a true freshman and he succeeded finishing #2 on the team with 62 rec for 1048 yds and 8 TD's. He now takes over as the team's #1.

Besides Combs, RS SO Jameson Gedon is the only other WR to have recorded a catch last year. Gedon filling in for Combs in the playoffs finished with 24 rec for 351 yds and 4 TD's on the season.

Right now the #3-5 spots are going to be a revolving door with RS FR L'Damian Cummins currently slated for the coveted Slot WR role.

RS S Soma Tuaolo takes over as the teams starting TE. Tuaolo had 1 rec for 8 yds last year as the team's #2.

                                O-LINE

BSU graduated 3 starters from last year's squad including 2 NFL draft picks. SR RT Dennis Brock (30 starts) and SR RG Lionel Ifedi (33 starts) are the anchor of the line. Brock will slide over to LT this year as he looks to protect Battle's blindside and showcase his versatility to NFL scouts.

                                D-LINE

SR Dee Gallo is a lock to start after posting back to back season's with 10 sacks each, but the other starting job is wide open. SR Brock James, and JR's Isefa Fiala and Lee Damico appear to be the front runners and key backups.

SR Cameron Rhattigan looks ready to take over as the teams Starting DT, but looks for Damico to push him and potentially join when BSU runs a 4 lineman set.

                                LINEBACKERS

Transfer Antwuan Green slides into the starting role vacated by Ruegamer and The former Alabama Tide had 92 Tackles with 8 TFL, 8 sacks and 3 INT over 3 seasons. Green will be joined by former USC transfer Ben Body on the outside. Body had 19 Tackles and 3 sacks last year for the Broncos as a reserve. Former 5* and #1 Overall Recruit from the 2038 class, Eric Fleming will be the key backup. SR Jamie Grimes returns as the teams starting MLB. Grimes has averaged 67 tackles with 5 sacks over the past 2 years. Grimes will be backed up by Louisville transfer Quincy Onwuzurkie who averaged over 50 Tackles for the Cardinals (165 tackles) the past 3 seasons.

                                DEFENSIVE BACKS

SR Reggie Abel the former North Texas transfer returns for his final season as he takes over CB1 duties. Abel led the Broncos with 6 INT last year....

JR Brian Gilliam posted 52 tackles and had 2 INT as a true freshman but has posted just 12 tackles and 0 INT's the past 2 years. He is back in the starting lineup and the Broncos will need him to return back to form.

Manny Heurtelou (FS) and Mike Semple (SS) both return as starters, well JR Sidney Brightwell (45 Tackles, 2 INT) also returns as the teams starting Nickle Back.

                                SPECIAL TEAMS

Freshman Juan TrueBlood takes over Punting duties, well SR Patrick Ybarra returns for his 3rd season as the teams PK. Ybarra made 21/24 FG's as a Sophomore in 2038 and followed it up with 26/30 last season well going 4/6 from 50+ and a perfect 8/8 from 40-49.
