BRONCOS MAKE IT BACK TO BACK!!

For the 2nd time in school history the Boise State Broncos have won back to back National Championships, as Boise State adds their 5th National Title to the school trophy case... For Coach Scott it's now his 12th National title as a OC/HC..

    GAME RECAP

SR QB Anthony Pianalto (90) has had a pretty amazing career for the Longhorns including winning the Heisman last season, but sadly for the Newton Texas native his last game is one that will haunt him for the rest of his life. (2) 1st Quarter INT's by Pianalto would lead to Boise State taking a (21-7) lead in the 1st Quarter and a (28-14) lead in the first half. The Longhorns would out score the Broncos (14-10) in the 3rd to cut the lead to (38-28) but Pianalto's 3rd INT kill's a 4th quarter scoring opportunity and then with less then 2 minutes to play Pianalto over throws his receivers twice as Texas turns the ball over on downs.
Pianalto finished the game 22/34 320 yds with 4 TD and 3 INT.
SR WR Ray Benavidez had 9 rec for 151 yds and 3 TD well JR WR Marquis Leo had 7 rec for 101 yds and 1 TD.

    FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-41 TEXAS-28

    KEY PLAYERS

    QB-S. Battle-24/40 298 yds 2 TD 1 INT
    RB Q. Clifford-14 carries 116 yds 2 TD, 1 rec 16 yds
    WR C. Flanagan-6 rec 76 yds 1 TD
    WR T. Combs-6 rec 59 yds 1 TD
    WR J. Gedeon-3 rec 50 yds
    WR L. Cummins-3 rec 33 yds
    TE S. Tuaolo-4 rec 48 yds

      END OF THE YEAR REPORT

      CLIFFORD DECLARES

RS SO Quan Clifford (99) did indeed declare for the NFL Draft and just like scouts predicted was taken in the 1st Round. Backup's Wayne Cone (3rd Round) and Dalton Gash (5th Round) joined him as did OLB Antwuan Green (2nd Round)

BSU JUMPS 2 SPOTS AFTER LANDING 6 TRANSFERS[/U]

Boise State went into the Off-season with 18 players signed (4-5*,11-4*,3-3*) and the #4 rated class. They came out of it signing 6 players from the Transfer Portal including 5 former 4* Recruits and a 3* OLB bumping them up 2 spots to #2 in the final rankings.

With their Top-3 RB's gone to the NFL, BSU added 2 of the Top-2 RB's in the portal in 4* James Lett (Nevada) and Zac Easy (North Carolina). Easy was considered the #8 Overall Recruit available. Both are RS SO giving BSU 3 years eligibility.

BSU after having success the past 2 seasons with Linebackers in the Portal went hard again landing 4* RS SO Paris Riggins (Cal) and 3* RS FR Matt Melvin (Michigan)

Despite having their entire TE room coming back led by Mackey Award winner Somo Tuaolo, BSU added Easy's teammate 4* RS SO TE Jaleel Gado (UNC) well also adding 4* RS SO Tiquan Hamm from Central Michigan.

**Miami finished with the #1 Overall Class, SMU was #3, Nebraska was #4 and Texas was #5. TTU finished #9 signing 27 palyers (14-4*,13-3*)

      Oregon was #12 with 25 players (1-5*, 12-4*, 12-3*). Arizona State was #14 with 34 players (14-4*, 12-3*, 8-2*), USC was #17 with 26 players (1-5*, 8-4*, 17-3* ).

      SMELTER AND MEEKINS CHANGE SIDES

Last year 5* All-American Otis Meekins joined BSU as a QB, but after witnessing the season that Salesi Battle had, Meekins has decided to switch to Defense joining the CB room where he also shined as a 2 way player for the Mission Hills Grizzlies.

Joining him is another former 5* AA in Dexter Smelter last year's #1 Overall recruit originally came to BSU as a WR but will be moving to FS this coming season. Many think we that Smelter could still see action on offense in the future becoming a 2 way player like Charles Woodson and Travis Hunter.

      Coach Scott
"Anytime you recruit Athletes, you obviously have a decision to make on what side of the ball you think they will make the most impact. When we signed Meekins as our QB of the 2039 class, we also signed 4* Chester Gentry to give us the ability to move Otis to the other side of the ball if we felt it was in his better interest to do so. Same went for Dexter.. We knew we had a deep WR room as we also signed 5* Nelson Metz in the same class and now after adding 5* Saqwan Spann we need we had some flexibility. Do I think Dex will never catch a pass at BSU. No.. I think with the depth we probably don't need him to play WR but it doesn't mean he couldn't."

Re: The Making of a Legend. The Career of Coach Scott CF25

2040 brought us several big coaching changes..

Former TTU DC Ryan McCardell's HC reign in Lincoln lasted just 3 seasons as the Defensive mastermind is taking his talents to the NFL after 18 years in the college ranks.

Former Boise State DC/HC Spencer Danielson left 3 years ago for LSU but was fired after just 2 seasons landing at Middle Tennessee State where he led the Blue Raiders to 9 wins including a CUSA Championship win over #8 Ranked Mississippi State knocking the Bulldogs out of the playoffs..

Danielson turned his 1 season at MTSU into a new HC job at Clemson after the Tigers dismissed former TTU OC Marquis Avery after a just 2 seasons as the Tigers finished (5-7) last year after going just (3-6) in ACC play.

Avery lands on his feet though as takes over at North Texas.

Michigan after a disappointing regular season finish at (6-6) has decided to move on from Sherron Moore despite a Overall record of (194-55) and 16 winning seasons.

Moore looking to stick it to his former employer heads to instate rival Michigan State where he will look to help rebuild a program he destroyed for 16 seasons.

          2041 TO-25 PRESEASON

Once again the Defending National Champs don't start #1 in fact Boise State didn't even get a 1st place vote.. (Overall/Offense/Defense)

#1 Texas (90/90/90) gets 37 1st place votes after finishing last year as the Natty runner ups..

#2 Texas Tech (90/89/91) gets 3 first place votes after making it to the Semi Finals last season. TTU is now in Year 4 since Coach Scott's departure so it will be interesting to see if Coach Keyes can keep the powerhouse in plaace after the last of Scott's recruits graduate.

#3 LSU (87/89/87) gets 6 first place votes but somehow ends up #3??
The Tiger undefeated season ended at the hands of Boise State in the 2nd Round of the playoffs.. Can they make a repeat run?

#4 Boise State (92/91/94). The 2 time Defending Champs start the year #4.. Most of the Offense is returning minus the RB's.. The Defense will have some new faces, but Scott has been loading up with (2) #1 Overall Recruiting Class's and a #2, so now it's time for these guy's to start making names for themselves.

#5 TCU (87/87/87). The Horn Frogs lost in the Semi Finals to BSU but are still loaded with talent. With 3 of the Top-5 teams in the country in the Big 12 its officially take over the SEC and Big Ten as the toughest conference in College Football.

#6 Miami (91/91/91). The #1 underachievers in the nation are back at it.

          #7 Georgia (90/89/92)
          #8 Oregon (91/90/92)
          #9 Washington (86/85/87)
          #10 Maryland (87/89/86)
          #11 Penn State (89/89/90)
          #12 BYU (85/85/85)
          #13 Wisconsin (86/87/86)
          #14 Ohio State (90/90/90)
          #15 Georgia Tech (81/81/81)
          #16 Missouri (85/85/85)
          #17 SMU (88/86/90)
          #18 Arizona (81/81/82)
          #19 Northern Illinois (83/82/84)
          #20 Cal (84/84/85)
          #21 UTSA (81/81/82)
          #22 Arizona State (88/87/90)
          #23 Mississippi State (81/81/82)
          #24 Syracuse (84/84/84)
          #25 Texas State (83/82/84)

            QUARTERBACK

RS SO Salesi Battle returns after guiding the Broncos to the National Championship well setting a new Boise State single season passing record with 5141 yards.

RS JR Eric Nielson returns as the teams #2.. Nelson saw just action in just 2 games last season completing 6/9 pass's with 1 TD and 1 INT, well also rushing for 16 yds.

RS SO George Rodriguez is promoted to the #3 spot with the graduation of Morgan Forsett, and RS FR Chester Gentry joins the active roster after redshirting last year.

            RUNNINGBACK/FULLBACK

With the Top-3 RB's gone from last year's squad, North Carolina transfer Zac Easy takes over as RB1. Easy rushed 129 times last season for 571 yds (4.4 avg) with 11 TD's for the Tar Heels.

Former Nevada Wolpack Jame Lett will take over as RB2.. Let carries the ball just 3 times for 7 yds in 2039, but had a solid year last season logging 104 carries for 446 yds (4.3 avg) and 4 TD's.

Former UCLA Bruin Maurice Gwacham (37 carries 108 yds 5 TD) moves from RB to FB this season.. He will be joined by former TE Tyler Nicholson as the duo takes over for Earl Pitts who graduated..

            WIDE RECEIVER/TIGHT END

Tyron Combs returns as the teams #1WR. Combs has 136 career receptions for 2176 yds and 22 TD's including a team high 14 last year.

Mackey Award winner Soma Tuaolo returns as the teams starting TE after tying Damion Brutus single season record of 100 receptions. Tualo might be listed as a TE but his 1335 yds and 11 TD's shows he is a vital part of this offense.

Jameson Gedeon had a tough spring after logging 11 TD's last season and it appears he is sliding down the depth chart as RS FR Nelson Metz on the other hand had a great spring and is looking to push RS Soph's Chad Flanagan (64 rec 1012 yds 8 TD) and L'Damian Cummins (60 rec 804 yds 6 TD) for PT as the team's starting job opposite Combs.

            O-LINE

Boise State graduated all 5 starters from last year's 0-Line leaving former Arizona State transfer Andrew Philbin their most season vet but Central Michigan transfer Tiquan Hamm does have 17 starts over 2 season well as CMU.

            D-LINE

When BSU was hit hard by injuries on the D-Line last season, Damico stepped up and logged 7 TFL and 8 Sacks. The Rest of the line will be a mix of whoever is playing great that week.

            LINEBACKERS

Former Cal Bear transfer Paris Riggins is a All-American taking over or Antwuan Green who led the Broncos in tackles last year. Riggins posted 66 Tackles last season for the Bears well logging 10 TFL and a team high 15 sacks.

Former 5* AA and the #1 Overall player of the 2039 Class, Eric Fleming joins the starting lineup on the opposite side.

RS JR Steven Countess will take over MLB duties when BSU runs a 3-3-5 instead of a 4-2-6.

            SECONDARY

SR CB Brian Gilliam posted 5 INT last season along with a career high 70 Tackles..

SR FS Manny Heutrelou followed up a 55 Tackle 3 INT season in 2039 with 61 Tackles and 2 INT last year.. He also had a team high 10 Pass Deflections.

RS Freshman Otis Meekins and Dexter Smelter will both look to make a impact after a strong spring but if not BSU will turn to RS JR JJ Bagent (3 INT) and former 5* Cameron Eze..

            SPECIAL TEAMS

Freshman Marquis Hutton will take over for Patrick Ybarra as the team's PK after 3 seasons, if he struggles BSU could turn to SO Punter Juan Trueblook who had a solid season with 48 punts (2080 yds) posting a 43.3 Avg, and a 40.4 Net Avg.

Reports are that Otis Meekins wants on the field as much as possible after moving from QB to CB. It appears the Meekins is also going to be taking reps as the teams primary KR/PR.. He will be joined by RS SO L'Damian Cummins who last year averaged 22.2 yds per KR and 9.0 yds per PR.

            RECRUTING

With a 83 man roster and only 7 Seniors, Reports are Coach Scott is looking to sign just 10-12 players for this year's class.

TIGERS COME UP SHORT IN COACH D'S HOMECOMING!!

Boise State scores 2 late touchdowns to retake the lead after Clemson took the lead early in the 4th Quarter to spoil former Coach Spencer Danielson's homecoming..

              Coach Scott
"Just like Coach Pete, our fan's still love Coach D.. He coached the school to 3 National Titles. I get it. The guy is still a icon and one of my best friends. But he knew we were not just going to hand them the game... "

              GAME RECAP

Boise State took the (7-0) lead midway through the 2nd Quarter as both team's "D" played lights out for the first 16 minutes of the game that saw 6 combined punts. But with 6:12 to play in the half, Battle would hit RS FR Nelson Metz on a 26 yd strike..

Clemson would settle for a FG on the following drive to make it (7-3) but BSU wasted little time making it (14-3) as Chad Flanagan works his way behind the entire defense for a 74 yd bomb from Battle to give BSU the 11 point lead at the half.

The Broncos opened up the 2nd half with the ball but Battle would a INT which would lead to Clemon's first touchdown of the day making it (14-9) Coach D leaves the offense on the field as SO QB Dominque Allen (80) converts the 2pt play to make it (14-11).

Another Battle INT inside the endzone would give BSU's only other drive of the 3rd Quarter, as the Tigers take over at the 20 yd line. Clemson would take just 4 plays to find paydirt as Allen hits SO WR Bart Vales (85) on a 60 yd bomb to make it (18-14) early in the 4th.

Boise State would answer back as Battle hits Tyron Combs on a 15 yd score to make it (21-18) but Allen and Vales were not done as the duo hooks up for a 2nd straight score to give the Tigers the lead again (25-21) with 3:47 to play.

Looking to take some time off the clock, BSU would try and use the run game but the Clemson D was shutting down Easy all day (2.5 avg), leaving Battle to carry the loas but the Sophomore delivers as he and Metz hook up 6 times on the final drive before Combs take a Jet Sweep 1 yd for the go ahead score, with 1:22 to play..

Allen already with 3 TD's on the day came out firing but a pair of drop pass's and a 8 yd sack left Clemson facing a 4th and 18 as the Tigers turn the ball over on downs after a 14 yd completion.

Allen finished the day 15/20 (75%) for 258 yds with 3 TD and led the team in rushing with 20 yds despite being sacked 3 times.

                CROWD NOISE IS BATTLE'S KRYPONITE!!

No matter who is under center, Coach Scott has yet to figure out how to combat the road noise when playing against a hostile environment.

Michigan got on the scoreboard first as Thomas finds SR WR Jake Eze for a 18 yd score to make it (7-0). Boise State answers back with just 3 plays before Battle hits Tyron Combs on a 69 yd score to tie the game (7-7). Thomas goes back to work and finds Eze again on a 21 yd score to make it (14-7) but Battle goes back to the air needing just 1 play as he hits FR WR Nelson Metz on a 69 yd bomb to tie the game up (14-14) again.

The Wolverines would hit a late FG to take the (17-14) lead into the half though.

BSU opened up the 2nd half with the ball but for a 2nd straight game Battle would throw a INT on the opening drive..

Still trailing (17-14) BSU would tie the game (17-17) early in the 4th but Michigan would find some running lanes in the 4th as Smith rushes for 38 yds including a 21 yd TD run to give Michigan the touchdown lead.

BSU had a chance to try and tie the game but Battle would throw 4 straight incompletes as the Broncos turn the ball over on downs. Michigan would then break a 40 yd run by SO Mario Stoner before settling for a kneel down after BSU burns all their timeouts.

Thomas finished the game 15/24 192 yds 2 TD, Michigan finished the game with 132 yds rushing...

Freshman Antwaun Vincent who had 5 TD's against Iowa in Week 1 finished without a single reception or carry.

running game has been non-existent the 1st two games of the season, puts a lot of pressure on Battle to be perfect.

Tough loss to Michigan, but I got faith even if the Broncos lose another on the road in their SEC swing they'll take care of business in the Pac-12 to be in the picture at the end

Yeah Easy and Lett havnt found their groove at all. It could be the O-Line Run Block seems lack luster as well. Problem is losing Clifford and Cone hurt more then I thought it would. I got a great WR core and 2 very good TE's though so it could just be a year where Battle is just going to break records..

                      BRONCOS ARE BATTLE READY!!

Coming off a disappointing Week 2 loss @ Michigan, Boise State dominated the Crimson Tide handing #20 Alabama their first loss of the season.

                      GAME RECAP

Alabama opened up the game scoring a touchdown as SR QB Stephon Zimmons (86) hits hits SO WR Emanuel Elkins (84) on a 7 yd score, but after that it was all Boise State. Nevada transfer James Lett broke the longest run of the season for the Broncos scoring on a 33 yd run to tie the game (7-7) then it was Freshman PK Marquis Hutton hitting a 44 yd FG to give BSU the lead (10-7) as we head to the 2nd.

Boise State would extend the lead to (24-7) as Battle throws 2 of his 5 TD's on the day as RS FR Nelon Metz grabs both including a 55 yd bomb. Battle and the Broncos led off the 2nd half just like they finished the 1st as Battle hits RS SO Chad Flanagan with a 51 yd score to make it (31-7). Then after the first of 2 INT's on the day by Zimmons, BSU makes it (38-7) as Battle and Flanagan hookup for their 2nd TD of the game.. After a forced punt, Battle and Flanagan would make it a hat trick as the duo hooks up for TD #3 making it (45-7).

Alabama would answer back in the 4th as JR RB Dalton Insley takes it 19 yds for the score to make it (45-14). Boise State would tack on Hutton's 2nd FG of the day (33 yds) to extend it to (48-14) but Alabama answers back with a FG of their own to make it (48-17) midway through the 4th. BSU would tack on 1 more FG as Hutton hits from 41 yds out and then after Zimmons 2 INT (SS S Brightwell), the Broncos would run out the clock..

James Lett got things going in the 3rd as he opens up the 2nd half scoring with a 14 yd TD run to make it (31-6) and then BSU tacks on 2 more rushing TD's in the 4th as RS FR Mario Ayanbadejo scores a pair of short TD runs as BSU closes out the game.

                            BOISE STATE LANDS 11 COMMITTMENTS

After struggling to receive any early season commits, Coach Scott's phone was ringing off the hook this week as 11 players including a nation leading (8) 5* Recruits. (Currently ranked #3 behind Arizona State and Penn State)

#5 Overall Cameron Hester (#2 CA/#2 CB) leads the way. Listed at 6'1 192lbs fom San Mateo CA, Hester is a shutdown CB who has the speed to stay with anyone in the nation. Hester turned downs offers to Oregon, Tennessee, Michigan and Georgia.

#7 Overall Lane Freeman (#1 MI/#1 OLB) joins a talented LB group that already features former #1 Overall Eric Fleming starting on the outside. Freeman listed at 6'4 260lbs from Livonia Michigan could potentially move to DE for the Broncos, as BSU looks to get him on the field quicker. Freeman had scholarship offers from Washington, LSU, Wisconsin ad Michigan as well as Bowling Green which we are told was actually a Top-3 choice ahead of every but BSU and Washington.

#10 Overall Eric Ausbon (#5 GA/#1 RB) is probably the Broncos biggest land. With the current state of the Broncos run game, Ausbon will most likely skip his redshirt season unless Easy/Lett somehow find their groove. Listed at 5'11 237lbs from Riverdale Georgia, Ausbon has the size to be a every down back. Ausbon had offers from Alabama, Miami, Clemson, Georgia and Auburn.

#12 Overall Tomas Torres (#1 TX/#1 DE).. Scott goes back to Texas and steals the Gatorade Player of the Year landing the 6'5 240lb Allen High School star. Torress had offers from Texas, Oklahom State, LSU, Oklahoma and TCU.

#14 Overall James Kamara (#1 WA/#2 ATH). Listed at 6'6 205 lbs from Spokane WA, Kamara is a WR trapped in a TE body.... A 2 sport athlete, Kamara had offers to play basketball at Gonzaga, as well as Football scholarships from Texas Tech (finished #2), Washington, Oregon and Washington State.

#19 Overall Marco Draft (#8 GA/#2 DT) is a 6'2 329lb run stuffer from Hoschton Georgia, as Coach Scott poaches another player away from the SEC powers including the Georgia Bulldogs.

#28 Overall Tyreke Elmore (#3 MI/#5 CB).. Listed at 6'2 187lbs from Walled Lake Michigan, Elmore joins Hester giving BSU to future stud CB's.. Elmore had offers from Washington, LSU, Wisconsin, Penn State and Texas Tech.

#30 Overall David Adeyemi (#1 SC/#4 WR) . Listed at just 5'11 206lbs from Duncan South Carolina, Adeyemi is bascially a L'Damian Cummins clone. This kid can flat fly (98 spd, 96 acc). Adeyemi will likely redshirt with the current WR depth BSU has but should shine in the slot role and help with kick returns early. He had offers from Appalachian State, Virginia Tech, NC State, and Clemson with campus visits to both the Mountaineers and Hokies scheduled for later in the year.

#35 Overall (4*) Keilan Crumpler (#1 ID/#2 OLB). Crumpler the State of Idaho POY from CDA Idaho, is listed at 6'2 235 lbs. Despite already signing Freeman, Coach Scott couldn't let a instate player with the talent Crumpler had regardless of position to sign some where else. He had offers from BYU, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado.

#70 Overall (4*) Mustafa Sun (#1 CO/#9 ATH) was Colorado's Gatorade POY. Listed at 6'1 208lbs from Englewood Colorado, Sun played both RB and FS for and as a All-State selection at both.

#81 Overall (4*) R.J. Sheets (#1 IN/#5 ATH). Is listed at 6'1 228 lbs from Indianapolis Indiana. Like Sun, Sheets play both sides of the ball as a FB and MLB and was a All-State selection in both as he was named Indiana's Gatorade POY...

                            Coach Scott
"We absolutely love our class so far.. With only 12-15 open scholarships, our focus this year was Quality and we wanted to focus on kids we thought could help us in multiple ways before deciding what side of the ball we wanted them to play or even what position. People forget when Ashton Jeanty came to BSU, we actually had some solid depth and current starters at RB and we tried Ashton at Safety and even some DE. We landed a stud RB in Ausbon and we have some young depth at RB we havn't see yet play, but we really like what we saw out of both Sun and Sheets on film"
With 11 of their 12-15 scholarship signed BSU won't have very many scholarships left to hand out, but rumor is the Broncos are focusing on several QB's with the thoughts that current starter Salesi Battle could leave early for the NFL and at least 1 current backup could test the Transfer Portal. Reports are BSU also is still actively recruiting another RB.

WSU opened up the 2nd half with a touchdown as JR QB Bobby Manhertz (76) hits JR WR Dewayne Fuller (75) on a 72 yd bomb to cut the lead to (31-17) but that was a close as the Coug's would get, as Manhertz would then finish out the game throwing 4 INT's to the Bronco Defense including a "Pick 6" by SS Sidney Brightwell as BSU tacks on 3 more scores including another pair of TD's to Tyron Combs as he finishes the game with a career high 237 yds and 4 TD's.
