IT'S MORE THEN JUST A TROPHY!!

For 10 teams coming away with a Conference Championship trophy means your the best of the best in your conference and a reward for a great season, but this year for 12 of the 20 teams playing this week, there is more on the line. For these 12, they are playing for a shot at a seat at playoff table and a chance at adding a National Championship next to their Conference title in the schools trophy case.

    BIG 12 #1 (12-0) TEXAS TECH VS #2 (12-0) KANSAS STATE

TTU has won 5 straight Big 12 titles with the last 4 also leading to a Natty. For K-State it would be a chance at their first since 2024 and a win here would propel them to the #1 ranking and the #1 seed. This showdown doesn't get any bigger.

    PAC-12 #3 (11-1) OREGON VS #14 (9-3) UCLA)

For the Bruins a win here also means a shot at the Natty, as a 4th loss would crush their resume despite it being against the Ducks. For Oregon the win means they have finally taken back the Pac-12 after losing to Boise State for so long. A Ducks win also means a Top-4 seed and a 1st Round Bye as they look for the chance at their first Natty in this Dynasty.

BIG TEN #4 (11-1) PENN STATE VS #6 (10-2) MICHIGAN

The Nittany Lions went a perfect 8-0 in Big Ten play this year with their only loss coming to #1 TTU back in Week 3. They would like nothing more then to continue their 9 game win streak with a victory over the Wolverines. Both teams are in the playoffs not matter what, but the winner of this game will get a 1st Round Bye..

    SEC #12 (10-2) GEORGIA TECH VS #13 (9-3) ARKANSAS

It's been a disappointing finish for the Yellow Jackets after a 10-0 start as the fell instate rival Georgia in Week 13, but here they are trying to win their 1st SEC title and a shot into the playoffs.

Arkansas won big in Week 13 beating LSU to claim the division and have a shot at another SEC title and a playoff bid. Can they make it 3 in a row for G.T.?

    CUSA #7 (11-1) TENNESSEE VS #22 (10-2) LOUISVILLE

Projections don't show the Cardinals making the playoffs even if they win, but it would still be a great way to close out the year. For the Vol's it's all about winning and potentially securing that #4 seed.

    ACC #8 (10-2) APPALACHIAN STATE VS #24 (10-2) VIRGINIA

Like the Cardinals, the Cav's are just wanting to finish strong with their 1st ACC title, with little doubt they could climb high enough to secure a At-large bid.

However for the Mountaineers they are in the same boat as the Vol's. A win not only would get them their 1st ACC title but would also secure them a #4 seed most likely and a 1st Round Bye.

    AMERICAN #23 (10-2) N. ILLINOIS VS (10-2) N. TEXAS

Neither team is ranked high enough to make the climb to #12, so this game is all about just taking the title and securing a better Bowl game.

MOUNTAIN WEST #17 (11-1) FRESNO STATE VS (7-5) UTAH STATE

A disappointing Week 12 loss to San Jose State ended the Bulldogs perfect season, and could potentially have knocked them out of a playoff spot.. They will need to win big and hope the domino's fall into place for a shot to jump to #12.

SUN BELT #19 (10-2) FAU VS (8-4) GEORGIA SOUTHERN

Like Fresno, I am not sure the Owls have any shot at climbing to #12 but a win and a finish in the Top-25 could propel them back into discussion with replacing South Florida in the SEC next season.

MAC (7-5) BOWLING GREEN VS (8-4) ARMY

The Falcons have won 2 out of the last 4 Championships and have made the playoffs in 2032 securing the #4 seed, but this year they are just looking to make it 3 out of 5. For Army 3 years ago they were playing as a Independent so a Conference Title would be a huge milestone for the program.

WHO IS IN AND WHO IS OUT

Well Conference Championship Week will determine several team's fate, let's take a look at the other teams who are waiting to see if the will claim a spot in this year's 12 team bracket.

#5 (10-2) Georgia isn't in the SEC Championship, but a Week 13 win over in state rival Georgia Tech, has the Bulldogs resume looking solid as the will be one of the first teams in

#9 (9-3) Boise State, winner of 2 National Titles since the 12 team playoff format started in 2024 has only missed the playoffs once (2030) and appears ready to make it again despite a 3 loss season.

#10 (9-3) LSU. A disappointing loss to Arkansas ends the Tigers season on a sour note, but being ranked #10 will most likely get them a At-large bid and a shot at the Natty where a loss by in the SEC Championship will likely end the Hog's season.

#11 (10-2) Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights missed out on a chance to play in the Big Ten title game, but with the #11 ranking and 10 wins, they still got a legit shot at grabbing a seat at the table.

#15 (8-4) Miami FL. The Hurricanes are out. I don't see any scenario where the get in with 4 loss's.

#16 (9-3) Texas. The Long Horns went into Week 11 ranked #5 with 1 loss, but followed up their loss to TTU with a loss to Baylor (28-27) ending their season on a very sour note. like Miami I give their chances at the playoffs less then 1%

TEXAS TECH FALLS IN BIG 12 TITLE GAME!!

TTU's quest for a perfect season is over as Kansas State pulls off the upset despite being undefeated and ranked #2 in the nation, Texas Tech was still favored by 4.5 points.

TTU came into the game averaging a nation's best 38.1 PPG, and had never scored less then 31 points a game until tonight, despite QB Freddie Vildor throwing just 1 INT.

        GAME RECAP

Despite not a single turnover in the 1st half, neither offense could move the ball as both teams sent out the punt units for a combined 8 times leading to a TTU (6-3) lead at the half..

K-State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and quickly moved it down field before the drive stalled leading to the Wildcats kicking a 23 yd FG to tie the game (6-6).

Texas Tech was the first to break the goaline as Freddie Vildor breaks loose for a 33 yd TD run to make it (10-3) 2 minutes into the 4th Quarter, but K-State answers back as SR RB M. Hinish (88 ovr) caps a 11 play drive with a 4 yd run. to tie the game (10-10) with 5 minutes to play.

TTU still struggling to move the ball through the air, was once again forced to punt after running just 4 plays as Rico Hatfield drops a 3rd down pass play.. It was TTU's 6th dropped pass of the day.

Still tied (10-10), the TTU "D" stepped up trying to get the ball back but K-State manages to get the ball inside PK Doug Traore (81 ovr) range as the Senior PK hits from 47 yds out to give K-State the (13-10) lead with 2:21 to play.

Still armed with all 3 timeouts, Coach Scott knew his team didn't need to push but facing a 2nd and 6, Vildor looked to Craig Smythe down the sideline for what looked to be the game winner, but SR CB Brett Radovich makes a highlight play coming down with the ball and takes it back 78 yds before being brought down by Vildor himself to set up the Wildcats inside the redzone with 2:12 to play. After back to back runs left K-State facing a 3rd and 5, SO QB Trey Gruittaduaria (80 ovr) hits SR TE Marquis Agustine (77 ovr) for the game winner, as TTU fan's are left shocked..

        FINAL SCORE K-STATE-23 TEXAS TECH-13

        KEY STATS

        QB F. Vildor-16/27 (59%) 173 yds 1 INT, 59 yds rushing 1 TD, sacked 4 times

Wow. Did not see that one coming, especially a season low 13 points.

The good thing is you'll still be in the playoff and likely get a home game in the 1st round before the bowl games start.

            THE QUEST FOR #6

For the first time since 2028 (Coach Scott's 1st year at TTU and the Red Raiders 1st National Title), Texas Tech will play in the opening round of the playoffs as TTU falls to #3 in the rankings and receives the #5 Seed.

(12-1) Texas Tech will host #12 (10-2) Rutgers as the Scarlet Knights nab the #12 seed giving the Big Ten 3 teams in the playoffs this season, with the winner advancing to take on (11-2) Applalachian State who won the ACC Championship and secured the #4 seed.

            Coach Scott
"Obviously we would've loved to stay undefeated and secure another Big 12 title and #1 seed, but honestly this probably played out better for us in our path to the Semi Finals and a potential rematch with K-State"
Well K-State finishes the year (13-0) securing the Big 12 title and the #1 seed their reward is a matchup with either #9 (9-3) Boise State or #8 (10-3) Michigan.

Penn State's (26-21) victory over Michigan in the BIG Ten title game propels the Nittany Lions to the #2 seed where they will await the winner of #5 (11-3) Oregon who receives the #7 seed after losing to UCLA in the Pac-12 title game vs #10 (9-3) LSU.

#6 Tennessee won the CUSA title with a (24-16) win over Louisville and secures the #3 seed. The Vols will take on either #11 SEC Champion (10-3) Arkansas (they beat GT 42-24) or #4 (10-2) Georgia who secured the #6 seed.

            Coach Scott,
I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that UCLA finished #12 in the rankings and won the Pac-12 title over Oregon finishing (11-3) yet they are left out of the playoffs for 2 teams (1 from the Big 10 and 1 from the SEC) who didn't even play in their conference title games. (LSU and Rutgers) or even BSU a team from their own conference who has just 9 wins. I love my Broncos but I feel bad for the Bruins. They had a great season and their reward is the LA Bowl against Colorado State.

              TTU CRUSH'S KNIGHT'S IN ROUND 1!!!

After scoring a career low 13 points in their loss to K-State in the Big 12 title game, the Red Raider's came out and scored a season high 52 points in the opening round of the playoffs including 21 points in the 4th Quarter with the game already secured.

              GAME RECAP

The Offense wasn't the only thing clicking tonight, as TTU shut down the Rutgers offense for the majority of both halves, as TTU takes a commanding (24-7) lead into the locker room behind 3 TD pass's by Freddie Vildor including a pair to Rico Hatfield. (34 yds and 12 yds).

Vildor and Hatfield were not down as the duo hooks up for 2 more TD's in the 2nd half including the opening drive of the 3rd Quarter to extend the lead to (38-7) with 7 minutes to play in the 4th Quarter.

Despite 4 TD's on the day for both players, Freddie Vildor wasn't done. After Rutgers manages to score their 2nd TD of day, Vildor leads a 9 play drive capped off by a 2 yd scoring strike to Craig Smythe and then after a INT by SR SS Ben Martini, Vildor goes back to the air and hits Felix Addison on a 62 yd pass play to put the final nail in the coffin..

That's the bounce back Vildor needed to get right.

How is App State this year? I don't recall seeing them in the playoffs recently, so are they just a flash in the pan that got lucky?

VILDOR LEADS TTU TO THE SEMI'S FOR 3RD STRAIGHT SEASON!!

For a 2nd straight week JR QB Freddie Vildor has been named Player of the Week after leading Texas Tech to a 2nd Round victory over the #4 seeded Mountaineers.

                    GAME RECAP

Tied (7-7) at the end of the 1st Quarter, Vildor would throw a pair of Touchdowns to Rico Hatfield to give TTU the (21-7) lead at the half.

For Rico Hatfield it was TD #24 and #25 as the Senior continues to add to his career totals and further cementing his name in the records books.

Appalachian State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and SR QB Marquis Durham (88 ovr) would lead a 11 play drive capped off by 27 yd TD run by himself to cut the lead to (21-14), but Vildor showed he too can make plays with his feet as the JR QB scores on a career long 63 yd run to extend the lead back to (28-14) with over 7 minutes still to play in the 3rd Quarter. TTU then extended the lead to (35-14) with 3 minutes to play in the quarter as RS FR Nico Souza scores his first career TD on a 1 yd run.

Down by 3 scores, the Durham puts the Mountaineers in the endzone again this time finding JR WR Jared Breckner (82 ovr) on a 28 yd strike to make it (35-21) early in the 4th Quarter, but Vildor wasn't done as he throws TD #4 and #5 hitting Addison for 1 and Smythe. A Durham INT by CB Teddy Beckford would seal the victory as TTU runs out the clock.

Durham was 19/27 (70%) for 223 yds with 2 TD and 1 INT passing and led the Mountaineers with 11 carries for 95 yds and 1 TD on the ground in the loss.

                    FINAL SCORE TTU-49 APPY STATE-21

                    KEY PLAYERS

                    TE R. Barbosa-3 rec 47 yds

                    OTHER 2ND ROUND RESULTS

#1 Kansas State for a 2nd straight game play's lights out Defense as the Wildcats hold Boise State to just 8 points as K-State rolls (31-8) to setup the rematch with TTU.

A interesting note, K-State lost their starting QB and Heisman winner (SO Trey Gruittadauria 80 ovr) in the the 1st Quarter and had to turn to backup QB SR Barry Coutee (77 ovr) Coutee complete 17/26 for 239 yds with 1 TD and 1 INT. Coutee will make his first career start against TTU.

Gruttadauria finishes his season with 3552 yds passing with 35 TD and just 5 INT well adding 400 yds and 5 TD's on the ground.

#3 Tennessee defeats #11 Arkansas (44-24) SR QB Mike Larue (86 ovr) threw for 375 yds and 5 TD's for the Vol's in the win, well also adding a 5 yd rushing score.

#2 Penn State trailed (10-0) at the end of the 1st Quarter but scored twice in the 2nd to take a (14-10) lead and went on to win (31-24) to end the Ducks dreams of a Natty.. SR QB Mike Bitonio (91 ovr) was 19/22 (86%) for 214 yds and 3 TD's on the day.

                        TTU WIN'S IN OT THRILLER

Just 3 weeks ago Kansas State's Defense held Texas Tech to a season low 13 points. The point total was actually a career low for Coach Scott who in 11 seasons has become one of college football's best offensive masterminds. Today Coach Scott and the Red Raiders got their revenge beating the Wildcats and securing their 6th straight trip for a chance at a National Championship, but it look overtime to do it as the 2 teams combine for 90 points.

                        GAME RECAP

In a game in which both teams combined for 860 yards of Offense and 90 points the 1st half was a little bit of a snooze feast as both teams felt each other out with 1 score each to end the 1st Quarter (7-7). Still tied (14-14) with less then 2 minutes to play in the half TTU takes the lead as Vildor finds JR TE Ramon Barbosa in the back of the endzone for a 2 yd strike to make it (21-14) at the half.

Kansas State started the 2nd half with the ball, and SR QB Barry Coutee (77 ovr) continued to play well filling in for Heisman winner Trey Grutti, a Coutee throws his 3rd TD of the day to fellow SR WR Javier Viera (77 ovr) to tie the game (21-21).

For Viera it was his 3rd TD of the day and 12th of the season as the former 2* from Tomball Texas continues to provide big plays for the Wildcats.

                        Coach Scott
"Sometimes when you get caught up in just looking at * grades by 247 and other recruiting websites, you forget that there is some really talented players who get looked over in your quest to find playmakers and gem's. Viera is one of those guy's who just goes out an plays hard"
After both teams trade a pair of FG's we head to the 4th tied (24-24). K-State breaks the tie first, as SR RB Montrell Hinish (88 ovr) breaks a 36 yd TD run to put the Wildcats up (31-24) midway through the 4th with 5 minutes to play. The Red Raiders answer though as Vildor leads a 13 play drive that takes up 4 1/2 minutes as the Junior QB hits his favorite target Senior Rico Hatfield for a 10 yd strike to tie the game (31-31) leaving just 42 seconds on the clock.

Coutee knowing his limits didn't force the ball downfield in a desperation play and instead K-State settles for Overtime.

The Red Raiders would win the toss and elect to start on Defense, but K-State quickly scores as Coutee finds Viera for his 4th TD of the day to put the Wildcats up (38-31). Then it was TTU wasting little time as Vildor hits Craig Smyth on a TD pass on the 1st play of series to tie it back up (38-38).

TTU just like they did in the first OT series wasted little time breaking the tie as Vildor keeps the ball himself scoring on the 2nd play of the drive with a 6 yd QB keeper on the speed option. Leading (44-38), TTU lines up for the 2pt play and again its Vildor who keeps it himself diving over the defender. to convert the 2pt play

Down by 8, K-State knew they need to score and convert, and Coutee did his part as the SR QB hits JR WR Vilami Fatu for his 5th TD of the day to make it (46-44) but the pass rush duo of Kevin Zuber and Antwan Allgeier was just to much as Zuber get's in for the game winning sack as the duo combines for 6 sacks on the day...

PENN STATE WINS TO SET UP REMATCH

With a (21-14) win over Tennessee, the #2 Nittany Lions are moving on, setting up a rematch with the Red Raiders, as they look to revenge their only loss of the season (31-3) back in Week 3 in Happy Valley

                        Coach Scott
"If there is another team in the nation that can give us the type of game we just played vs K-State, it's Penn State. To be honest I was shocked at the outcome of the game back in Week 3 and I know the rest of the nation was as well. SR QB Mike Bitonio (91 ovr) had a great season winning the Johnny Unitas Award throwing for over 3600 yds and 40 TD's proving to many why he will most likely be the 1st pick in next year's NFL Draft"

I thought my game winning drive in the NC was dramatic, but man. A double OT win with a 2 point conversion stop to clinch a spot to the Natty

You guys made easy work of Penn earlier this year, hopefully you can repeat that performance!

TEXAS TECH CONTINUES TO MAKE HISTORY!!

Texas Tech has done it. 5 straight National Titles and a 6th in 7 years, as Coach Scott closes out the Year 4 of his 5 year extension with a (16-1) record. At 48 years old, there isn't much left for Coach Scott too do.. He could retire today and would be a 1st ballot Hall of Fame selection.. Only time will tell, but for now the plan is just to soak in the moment..

                            GAME RECAP

Coming off a dramatic finish vs Kansas State, some wondered if TTU had enough left in the tank to get it done against PSU who came in looking to prove that Week 3 was a fluke.

The game lived up to the billing as it was like a Heavy weight fight with each team trading blows. Penn State won the toss and elected to kick and TTU made quick work of the opening drive using just 4 plays before Vildor connects with Felix Addison on a 46 yd bomb to make it (7-0), but the Nittany Lions answer right back Bitonio hits JR WR Alfonso Sasser(84) on a 35 yd pass to tie the game (7-7). Both Duo's would connect on another pair of scores to make it (14-14) as the 1st Quarter comes to a close.

Vildor sticking with what is working finds Addison for TD #3 midway through the 2nd Quarter, but with 1:12 to play PSU ties the game again as Bitonio finds RB BJ Reece (87 ovr) out of the backfield for a 9 yd screen pass to make it (21-21) at the half.

Penn State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and Bitonio would continued to showcase why he is projected as the #1 pick in the draft as he shows off his legs well scoring on a 39 yd run to give the Lions the (28-21) lead, but the Red Raiders answer back with a big blow as Netori Morton breaks a 22 yd TD run to tie the game (28-28) with 3 minutes to play in the 3rd, but PSU answers the call again as Reece breaks a 32 yd run for the score to make it (35-28) as we head to the 4th.

Trailing by a touchdown, Vildor would make his first mistake of the night as he throws into double coverage in the endzone trying to get the ball to Hatfield as CB CJ Larue (86 ovr) comes up with the INT.

Penn State looking to take some time off the clock would stick to the ground game as Bitonio and Reece combine for a season high 183 yds on the ground but with 4 minutes to play in the game it was SO CB Cesar Flores coming up with a huge hit on FR WR Major Crow (76) knocking the ball lose and recovering the fumble.

Still trailing by 7, TTU would take over with 60 yds standing between them another potential Overtime. Vidlor not shaken from his earlier INT goes back to work as he finds Craig Smythe on a 19 yd strike. Then after a 10 yd run by Morton, Vildor keeps it himself and scrambles 12 yds before stepping out of bounds to escape a big hit. TTU would follow up the trio of 1st downs with a pair of short runs by Morton to get the clock moving facing a 3rd and 5, Vildor was just looking for the 1st down, but Rico Hatfield has other ideas as the he catches the ball just past the 1st down marker, spins off the defender and sprints for the endzone as the Senior scores his final TD of his career giving him 28 on the season and 75 for his career as he sets new National, Big 12 and Texas Tech single season and career records.

Still trailing (35-34), Coach Scott had the biggest decision of his career to make. Kick the PAT and play for overtime or go for the win knowing a stop would mean a loss with just 2:28 to play. The Coach called a timeout and huddled with his Offensive captains (Vildor/Morton/Hatfield). The Trio made the call as they took the field. Speed option right, Vildor took the snap and the Lions D line took the bait as Morton is left uncovered, Vildor makes the pitch and Morton slides into the endzone untouched as TTU takes the 1 point lead (36-35).

PSU still armed with 2 timeouts, takes the touchback leaving them to start from the 20. They never made it past the 30 as the TTU Defense shutdowns Bitonio on 4 straight pass attempts.. All that was left a couple of kneels by Vidlor as TTU takes no chances at a turnover... Ball game is over..

You earned that National Championship. Two separate games with game winning or tying drives and clutch stops by the defense to hold onto late leads.

It almost sounded like Coach Scott was contemplating retirement prior to the Natty...

Great call call on going for it. Minus the 1 INT from Vildor, TTU has been playing lights out through the playoffs. Congrats on 5 straight.
