    GAME RECAP

The FIU Panthers played their best defensive game of the season holding Coastal Carolina to just 185 Total yards of offense including just 5 yards rushing as they win the CUSA opener and 2nd game since their Week 0 loss to FSU.

FIU opened up the 1st Quarter with leaning heavily on their ground attack as Cole Tabb scores (2) 1st Quarter TD's including a 31 yd run..

CCU would open up the 2nd half scoring as JR QB Tad Hudson (81) hits SR Xakery Wiedner on a 14 yd score to make it (14-7) but late in the 2nd Quarter QB Jamaal Church shows off his running ability with a 53 yd scramble and score as FIU takes the (21-7) lead into the half.

FIU opened up the 2nd half with the ball and would settle for a 44 yd FG by Issac Glennon to extend the lead to (24-7).

Still leading (24-7) in the 4th, FIU would find the endzone 1 more time as Church connects with Enrique Cortez on a 10 yd strike to make it (31-7).

A Hudson INT would give the Panthers solid field position but the Chanticleers Defense steps up holding FIU to another FG to make it (34-7). CCU however would turn the ball over twice on 4th down to finish out the game as FIU adds 1 more FG by Glennon to give him a "Hat Trick" on the day.

CCU QB Tad Hudson finished the day 12/29 (41%) for 143 yds with the 1 TD and 1 INT. He was also sacked 5 times but still managed 19 yds rushing which led the team, as JR RB Addison Hershberger (74) finished with 12 carries for 16 yds (1.3 avg).

I can't recall you ever losing a game that badly, ouch. Definitely doesn't cement confidence in the post KJ era, but you've bounced back nicely since although I don't think the QBs have really been tested yet

Couple of good wins after a shellacking by Florida State - Church's emergence at QB could be a season-saver after how bad your guys played in the opener.

Bcause of the lack of save files you can have i dont know for sure but I am pretty confident that was .my worse defeat.

I am excited with recruiting so far this season. I have 2-4* QB'a who have me listed #1. Onel also has a offer from Miami who is #2, but they have alot of QB talent on their roster. The other one has a offer from UCF. If I land 1 of them I feel like I will be good to go. Also have a speedy 4* RB I can par potentially next year with Logan the 4* i signed last year to give me a nice 1-2 combo at RB and Cheeks the Alabama Transfer is a stud. He should make for a great #1 once McNeal graduates

Church has played well enough to keep the job so far. I am going to have go tweak my playback though cause he excells at short to medium pass's and runs well but doesn't throw the deep ball. Last year I had like 5 plays i could count on kJ being able.to make to Naanee but so far this year I haven't complete a single one in 4 games

I go2 2 4* QB'S currentlt with FIU #1 and feel i got a shot at getting 1 for sure and hopefully maybe both. So honestly I just need him good enough to get through the season. Then will probably transfer the current guys like Dee's and Malveaux out to let them finish their careers somewhere else

              GAME RECAP

The FIU Panthers won the 3rd straight game since their Week 1 loss to FSU and won their 3rd straight game vs #1 rival FAU handing the Owls their first loss of the season.

FIU OC Charles Clement and HC Matt Miller have dialed back the playbook this season looking to take advantage of the strengths of their QB's and after playing pretty conservative the past 2 games, today's game looked a little bit like the Panthers offense of the past at QB Jamaal Church throws for a career high 447 yds and 5 TD's after averaging just 186 yds in this first 2 starts.

Church opened up the game with a 9 play drive ending in a 18 yd TD pass to TE Dominick Naanee to give FIU the early (7-0) lead.

FAU would tie the game midway through the 2nd Quarter as SO QB Barry Pappoe (78) hits SR WR Jabari Smith (76) on a 7 yd score.

FIU however needed just 1 play to retake the lead as Church connects on a 75 yd bomb to Brian Cheek as the Alabama transfer continues to show off his sub 4.2 speed.

A Pappoe INT to JR SS Jaden Williams set up a 49 yd FG by Issac Glennon to end the half (17-7).

FAU opened up the 2nd half with the ball, and Pappoe rebounds from his earlier INT by throwing a 43 yd score to JR WR Jadrian Poindexter (74) to make it (17-14), but FIU again shows off the big play as Church throws his 3rd TD of the day hitting Enrique Cortez on a 64 yd bomb to make it (24-14)

              Coach Miller
"To be completely honest, Jamaal has struggled with the deep ball so far this season but today he showed he can make that throw too it also helps that Cortez and Cheek are 2 of the fastest players not just in CUSA but in the country."
Another Pappoe INT again by Williams sets up another Glennon FG as the Panthers make it (27-14) still with 3 minutes to play in the 3rd. A force punt would lead to another Church to Cortez score making it (33-14). Up by 16, Coach Miller elected to leave the offense on the field for the 2pt play but the pass is deflected.

Trailing by 19, FAU would close the gap as Paappoe throws TD #3 hitting SR WR Daidren Zipperer (82) on a 29 yd score.. The Owls would convert the 2pt play to make it (33-22). Then it was FIU's turn to turn the ball over as Church throws his first INT of the season as SO CB A. Knight (79) sets up another Owl touchdown as JR RB Tremonte Underwood Jr (82) takes in from 2 yds out. Again FAU would go for the 2pt play and again they would convert making it (33-30) with 6 minutes to play.

Church however would make up for his earlier INT by leading a 8 play drive capped off by a 13 yd pass out of the backfield to Cole Tabb as the Panthers go up by 10. (40-30). A 4 and out would give FIU the ball back but Church would fumble the ball giving it right back as the Owls offense retakes the field... But the Panther "D" would force another turnover on downs setting up another Glennon FG as the Panthers get the 13 point win..

FIU QB Barry Pappoe finished the game 19/35 (54%) for 292 yds with 3 TD and 2 INT. Star RB Germari Sands (90 Overall) had just 36 yds on 14 carries.

                  GAME RECAP

The 2027 season is starting to look alot like 2026. A disappointing loss to a ACC opponent in Week 0 followed up by a winning streak.

The FIU Offense went to work in the 1st Quarter taking a early (14-0) lead as Church finds Kyle McNeal on a 23 yd score and Cole Tabb adds another rushing touchdown to his season and career totals..

The Panthers would extend the lead to (21-0) as Cole breaks a 27 yd run for his 2nd TD of the day before the Dukes finally find the endzone with 3 minutes to play in the half as JR QB Larry Colon (78) connects on a 37 yd score to JR Dylan Williams (77) to make it (21-7). FIU would tack on a 36 yd FG by Issac Glennon as time expires to make it (24-7) at the half.

A James Madison fumble would kill the opening drive of the 2nd half but the Panthers are unable to jump on the advantage as the punt the ball away. The Dukes do the same as neither offense generates much until FR FB Isaiah Dennis busts through the middle for a 30 yd TD run late in the 3rd as FIU extend the lead to (31-13)..

James Madison would add a touchdown late in the game as SR RB Wayne Knight breaks off a 19 yd score to make it (31-19). The Dukes would go for the 2pt play and fail to convert. FIU would just run out the clock happy to go into the "Bye" Week at (4-1).

JMU's Larry Colon finished the game 20/34 (58%) for 257 yds with 1 TD, well also leading the team in rushing with 64 yds.. Knight finished with 44 yds on 12 carries (3.7 avg) and the score.

                    WEEK 5 TEAM REPORT

CHURCH QB1 BUT FOR HOW LONG?

Syracuse transfer Jamaal Church started Week 1 for the Panthers leading FIU to victory and since the has added 3 more wins to his resume as he is now 4-0 as a starter. The Redshirt Sophomore has completed 71% of his pass's throwing for 1016 yds (254.0 avg) with 9 TD and just 1 INT.

Church has also shown his ability to move the ball and make plays with his legs with 26 carries for 121 yds and 3 scores.

                    Coach Miller
"We let Jamaal sorta air it out against FAU and when and he had success but we still believe he is at his best when we establish the run and let him make good reads and settle for the shorter pass's (8.8 YPA)."
TABB ALMOST HALF WAY TO 1000

Cole Tabb has so far been very solid in his 2nd year as RB1.. Tabb who led the nation with over 1700 yds last season so far is off to a decent pace for another 1000+ yd season again rushing 88 times for 455 yds (5.2 avg) with a team high 6 TD's.

Tabb also has seen a increased workload in the passing game as he is currently tied for 3rd on the team with 19 receptions for 138 yds and 1 TD.

                    Coach Miller
"Last year Rueben Owen won the Doak Walker award not because he had more rushing yards or touchdowns then Cole, but because he was very active in the passing game. We wanted to do the same with Cole this year and give him a chance at earning the award we feel like he deserved last season"
                    CHEEK'S FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT

The Former Alabama Tide transfer has shown off his explosive abilities early this season with a 86 yd punt return for a touchdown as well as leading the team in receptions with (24) and a team high 415 yds.

                    Coach Miller
"We are super excited about Cheek and what he brings to the table. His playmaking ability is off the chart"
                    CORTEZ FINDING GOLD AND PAYDIRT

RS SO Enrique Cortez like Cheek also has a bright future. The former 3* had a great year last season catching 63 balls for 964 yds and 4 TD's. Cortez is off to potentially a even better season this year already matching his TD total with 4 as he leads the team. He has also shown his big play ability leading the team with a 18.5 avg catching 16 balls for 296 yds.

                    NAANEE FACING SOPHOMORE SLUMP

SO TE Dominick Naanee broke out last season winning the John Mackey Award well having a school record breaking season. So far this year Naanee has pretty much seen double and sometimes triple teams in every game making a huge impact on his #'s, but despite all the extra attention he still has produced 19 receptions for 23 yds (12.2 avg) with 1 TD.

                    STEWART STEPPING UP

Teammates were so impressed with RS Freshman MLB Tevaughn Stewart this spring that they voted him a Team Captain, and Stewart has shown why as he is currently leadin the team with 29 Tackles (including 23 solo and 3 TFL)

PANTHERS BUILDING A TOP-25 RECRUITING CLASS.

With several Top Recruits on the sideline for the FAU game, Coach Miller got some great news this week as the Panthers Top-3 targets all gave their verbal committment for next season.

4* RB Shawn Boyce (#57 Overall/#8 FL/#5 RB) from Neptune Beach Florida leads the way. Boyce listed at 6'1 193lbs held scholarship offers from Maryland, Florida State, and UAB.

With Cole Tabb set to graduate at the end of the season, most expect Boyce to step in Day 1 as RB1 teaming up with last year's 4* RB Tavon Logan giving the Panthers a solid 1-2 punch.

Boyce isn't the only explosive 4* Recruit joining the offense next season as a potential Day 1 Starter.

4* QB Enrique Verrett (#103 Overall/#13 FL/#14 QB) from Apopka Florida looks like he has all the tools to be FIU's next 4 year starter. Listed at 6'4 224 lbs, Verrett isn't going to beat you with his feet, but he has a killer arm that should be able to take advantage of the Panthers extremely talented receiving core.

Speaking of Receiving Core, Coach Miller knows how to recruit WR's and he showed it again as he lands his 3rd 4* WR in as many seasons with the signing of 4* Kris Newkirk (#117 Overall/#15 FL/#10 WR) from Lake City Florida. Listed at 5'9 180lbs, Newkirk is different from most of the other WR's currently on the Panthers roster in terms of size but he shares 1 trait with Cheek and Cortez that has Coach Miller and Panther fans very happy. This kid can fly (99 SPD,96 ACC, 92 AGL, 84 SPEC Catch).

With the 3 signings, FIU's Class is currently ranked #11 Overall.

Thanks for the comment.. Yeah life gets busy at times.. Back in my NCAA14/College Hoops 2k8 I would post daily for years, then took a huge break after the new Xbox came out. I still got my 360 but never fired it up much but now with the new game its been fun to be back here and posting recaps. I feel like I can't even play a Dynasty any more without sharing it.

All 3 guy's are going to be absolute studs. I am excited.. Makes me want to get through this season even faster. My offense is filling up with huge playmakers. Church has been a solid replacement so far but he still has alot of things that hold him back from being the guy I want to move forward with for the next 3 years. I actually still have another 4* QB on my recruiting board and right now I am leading UCF in the race to sign him too. Also have another 4* RB and a 3* HB. At the beginning of the year I basically put 2 from each position on my board hoping to sign 1 from each position but right now it looks like I could get all 6.

                            BOISE STATE PREVIEW

Boise State came into the game (4-1) with their only loss coming on the road to USF (34-14) back in Week 2 and were coming off a dominating win over UNVL (52-16) in Week 5.

RB Sire Gaines had originally declared for the Draft last season but reversed course after being only projected as a 5th-6th round pick, Gaines returned to Boise State for his Junior season joining Dylan Riley to give the Broncos a solid rushing attack.

QB Maddux Madsen graduated after throwing for 4000+ yds and 40 TD's last season guiding the Broncos to the Semi Finals of the Playoffs leaving former 5* Malachi Nelson to take over. Nelson was a transfer portal rumor several times in the past 2 seasons but stuck it out for his shot to lead the Broncos to another playoff run, but today just wasn't his day.

                            GAME RECAP

For Coach Matt Miller the return to "The Blue" was surreal. A former Bronco star WR turned coach who spent 5 seasons on staff, Miller was now on the opposite sideline in a Top-25 Battle that had playoff implications.

The Panthers would start with the ball little time finding the endzone as SO WR Enrique Cortez takes a 8 yd curl 54 yds to the house after the defender slips and falls to give FIU the (7-0) lead.

Boise State would tie the game up (7-7) though as Nelson finds SR TE Matt Wagner on a 13 yd score after guiding a 10 play drive.

FIU would then have a nice 11 play drive of their own ending in a 2 yd TD run by Cole Tabb to give the Panthers the (14-7) lead after 1 quarter of play.

Florida International would add to their lead as Church again guides the Panthers on a nice 9 play drive ending with Tabb's 2nd rushing TD of the day to make it (21-7). Boise State answers back though as Nelson finds JR WR Cyrus Wallace on a 28 yd strike to make it (21-14).

FIU's next drive is cut short as Church throws his 2nd INT of the season but the Panthers "D" comes up with a stop forcing the Broncos to kick a FG to make it (21-17). Church puts the INT behind him and goes 5/8 on the following drive hitting Alabama transfer Brian Cheek on a 19 yd score to extend the Panthers lead to (28-17) with 2 minutes to play in the half. Boise State would tack on another FG as time expires to make it (28-20) going into the half.

Boise State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and the Broncos drive 80 yds ending with a 6 yd TD pass to SR WR Cameron Bates to make it (28-26). The Broncos would go for the 2pt conversion and connect to tie the game (28-28).

Boise State's D would then force a Punt as the Bronco's looked to try and take the lead for the first time, but Nelson gives it right back as he throws his 2nd INT. FIU would go 60 yds ending with Tabb's 3rd score of the day to give the SR RB the "Hat trick" as FIU takes the lead (35-28).

Still (35-28) as we enter the 4th, FIU extends the lead to (42-28) as Church finds Cortez for his 2nd TD of the day (12 yd). Feeling the pressure of being down by 2 scores, Nelson throws his 3rd INT of the day as JR CB James Chenault comes up with his 2nd pick of the day.

The Panthers looking to strike quick, dial up a huge play as Church hits Kyle McNeal on a 59 yd bomb to make it (49-28).

A turnover on downs by the Broncos gave FIU the ball back but Church would throw his 2nd INT of the day and SR CB Franklyn Johnson Jr would make him pay taking it back 69 yds for the Pick 6 to make it (49-34). Down by 15, Coach D elects to keep the offense on the field for the 2pt play but the Panthers hold.

FIU leading by 2 scores would take on a late FG by Glennon to end the game as Coach Miller makes it 2-0 against his former team.

                            Coach Miller
"It's a little unreal coming here and beating the Broncos on their own turf. Not to many schools in the country have that claim. There is something special about playing on "The Blue". I love it. I don't know how soon we will get a chance to come back here but I hope this isn't my last time here. I have alot of great memories in Boise and this one is pretty special."

                            Coach D
"Matt is doing something really special with the Panthers. I knew he would make a amazing HC and well I am not happy with today's results, I wish him the best with the rest of his season and with the rest of his career.. This loss hurts, but we will need to regroup and finish strong if we want another shot at the Natty"

                              PANTHERS QB ROOM GETTING CROWDED!!

Coming off a Top-25 victory over Boise State, Coach Miller got another exciting phone call as 4* QB Zach Wire (#209 Overall/#25 FL/#27 QB) from Lakeland Florida makes it official, giving FIU 2 more QB's to add to a group of 6 with 8 potential QB's on next year's roster.

                              Coach Miller
"We went into the season hoping to land Verrett or Wire, we never expected we would land both.. Both guy's are so similar that most people wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Verrett is 6'4, Wire is 6'5 and they both have a huge arm that is something currently missing on our roster.. I know for a fact that we won't go into next season with all 8.. Yes these guy's are extremely talented and yes I hope and expect them to come in and compete for the starting job. Not in 2029, but next year. Jamaal is playing great right now and I still don't want to say Dees and Malveaux careers at FIU are over, but we will sit down and talk it out with all of them and figure out what is best for each and everyone of them moving forward."
Well landing a 4th 4* Recruit is great news for Miller and the Panther Program, the Week 7 "Bye" Week didn't bring all good news in terms of Recruiting as 2 key players gave their commitment elsewhere.

4* OT Sam East (#187 Overall/#23 FL/#5T) a 6'6 319lb future Blindside protector from Brooksville had FIU in his Top-3 all season, but has committed to the Florida Gators.

Fellow 4* OT Tye Michaels (#448 Overall/#64 FL/#31T) is joining him. Michaels listed at 6'8 290lbs from Tampa FL had FIU #2 all season but in the past 2 weeks saw FAU actually jump the Panthers before Florida jumps up and scoops him up giving the Gators 2 solid bookends for the next 4 seasons.

                              Coach Miller
"To be completely 100% honest, I am excited about Wire and our QB room next year, but losing out on East and Michaels hurts. We looked at both as potential Day 1 starters for us as we are going to lose both of our starting OT's this year to graduation, as well as our top reserve. We feel good about some of the depth we have established on the line, including RS FR Casey Hodel but we also know that 0-Line in the trenches is were the battles have to be won in order for our playmakers to have time to make big plays"

                                GAME RECAP

Coming off their 2nd "Bye" in 3 Weeks, FIU exploded for a new school record 80 points as the Panthers run all over the Herd putting up a new school record for rushing yards as SR RB Cole Tabb sets a new school record for most yards in a game in the process.

In a game that featured 11 Touchdowns on the day for the Panthers, the 1st Quarter was pretty reserve.

FIU opened up the game with a 11 play drive ending in a 9 yd TD pass from Church to Brian Cheek, who also tied the school record for most TD's in a game today.

Marshall would tie the game (7-7) and but Cole Tabb would break a 77 yd run for the another score to make it (14-7) as the 1st Quarter comes to a close. Marshall opened up the 2nd Quarter adding a FG to make it (14-10) before the Panthers offense exploded for 35 unanswered points to close out the 1st half taking a commanding (49-10) lead into the locker room.

Church threw 3 more TD's including #2 and #3 to Cheek to finish the first half with over 350 yds with 4 TD's and 1 INT. Tabb added a 2nd rushing TD to finish the 1st half with 182 yds and 2 scores on the day, and SR FS Preston Thompson would force a fumble, scoop it up and run 47 yds for the Defensive touchdown.

FIU opened up the 2nd half with the ball as Church connects with Enrique Cortez for this 5th TD of the day.. After, then it was Cole Tabb adding another touchdown as he gets the "Hat Trick" well going over 200 yds on the day.

Leading 63-10 going into the 4th things just kept getting worse for the Herd as the home crowd started their early exit as SO QB Anthony Kane throws a "Pick 6" to Mr Clark as FIU extends the lead to (70-10) still with over 6 minutes to play.

A 2nd INT by Church would end his day, as Coach Miller puts in RS FR Tarvaris Maijeh to close out the game. Maijeh would attempt just 2 pass's completing none as FIU just looked to run out the remaining time on the clock.

Give Anthony Kane credit, the Sophomore never gave up as he sets a new career high for him throwing 52 times for 400 yds including a 64 yd bomb to SR WR Bruce Mayweather to make it (70-14). FIU would add on another 3 points as Issac Glennon connects on 1/2 FG attempts in the closing minutes to extend the lead to (73-14).

FIU would get the ball back 1 more time with 1:12 to play in the game, and and RS FR Titus Tompkins not understanding the assignment would take the handoff and run 68 yds to the house for the final score of the game.

After a crazy Top-25 Week 7 result, FIU had moved up to #9 in the rankings. Nobody in the Top-8 lost this week, so the Panthers stay at #9 as they return home for a Week 9 matchup with (2-5) Appalachian State.

The Mountaineers have fallen on tough times losing their first 3 games of the season and then dropping 2 more before finally breaking the streak with a win over Coastal Carolina in Week 8 (35-14).
