SAN JOSE SHARKS: Evander Kane: "Drew Doughty can suck it."

    12/22/18

    Kevin Kurz

San Jose Sharks Forward Evander Kane had some words for Los Angeles Kings Defensemen Drew Doughty after San Jose's 5-3 Victory tonight over the Kings.

"Drew (Doughty) can suck it. That's the bottom line. He can hate us all he wants and live in the past with how the Kings have Stanley Cups and how they beat us and whatever he wants to say. Bottom line is he can suck it. We're focused on this year and winning our first Stanley Cup." Kane stated.

It's no secret that Drew Doughty always has something to say about the history between the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks.

San Jose, CA- The 7 game win streak for the San Jose Sharks(26-9-3) is now over after the Arizona Coyotes(20-12-4) rode 4 Power Play Goals to a 5-3 Victory inside the Shark Tank.

Joe Thornton, Evander Kane, and Gustav Nyquist scored for San Jose but the Coyotes led by Rookie sensation Josh Fisher's 2 Goals scored 4 Goals on 7 Power Plays.

Coyotes Goalie Antti Raanta turned away 29 shots as the Sharks were sloppy.

Sharks Goaltender Martin Jones was under sieged with 54 shots from the Coyotes but managed to turn away 49 of them allowing the 5 Goals for the Arizona Victory.

The Coyotes spent 8 minutes on the Power Play converting 4/7 against the Sharks who had one of the top Penalty Kill Units in the NHL.

But it was a no show tonight.

When the Sharks started their 7 Game win streak it was against the Coyotes who ironically also ended it.

San Jose wraps up their 4 Game homestand after Christmas with the Anaheim Ducks(17-14-7) in town on December 27.

DUCKS beat SHARKS 3-2 in San Jose...

        RECAP

San Jose, CA- Ondrej Kase, Corey Perry, and Alex Henrique scored and Goaltender John Gibson turned away 30 shots and the Anaheim Ducks(18-14-7) beat the San Jose Sharks(26-10-3) Thursday Night.

Anaheim jumped out to a 3 goal lead in just the First Period as Sharks Goaltender Martin Jones was under fire from the opening puck drop.

Curtis Sawyer got San Jose on the board in the closing seconds of the 1st. Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski scored in the Second Period but Anaheim closed the door after that.

The Sharks were sloppy unable to control the puck and caused turnovers in which the Ducks took control and crashed San Jose's net.

"We've been sloppy lately. Too many penalties and giving up too many goals. We need to clean it up." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

Anaheim also scored on the Power Play with Corey Perry's 10th Goal of the year.

"San Jose is a Team you have to get up quick on otherwise they'll score fast and you won't have a chance. They're that good of a Team." Ducks Head Coach Randy Carlyle stated.

The Sharks(26-10-3) end their 4 Game homestand and will head on the road up to Western Canada to meet the Edmonton Oilers.

SHARKS head to Western Canada with Redemption on mind...

          PREVIEW 12/29/18

The San Jose Sharks(26-10-3) have lost 2 games in a row after going on a 7 game winning streak. Now after a 4 Game Homestand, San Jose turns their attention to a Western Canada Trip with a stop in Edmonton(20-14-3).

The Sharks have redemption on their mind and for good reason.

          Todd McLellan.

The former Sharks Coach has been a thorn in the side of San Jose dating back to the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs where McLellan's Oilers have eliminated the Sharks in Six Games.

Edmonton beat San Jose on November 20, 2-1 in Overtime in San Jose where the Sharks faithful booed McLellan heavilly.

San Jose will look to get some revenge against Edmonton as this could be a potential Playoff Series come April.

The Sharks will then head to Calgary on New Years Eve to play the Flames(20-14-4) before wrapping up their 3 Game road trip with a stop in Denver to play the best Team in Hockey. The Colorado Avalanche(28-9-1).

Edmonton, AB- The San Jose Sharks(27-10-3) got some revenge on their old Head Coach Todd McLellan and the Edmonton Oilers(20-15-3) with a 5-1 thrashing inside the Rogers Place.

The Oilers have snapped their 3 game win streak with tonight's loss while the Sharks rebound from dropping the past 2 games against the Ducks and Coyotes.

"They got us tonight. We beat them in San Jose last month so I guess they owed us that." Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan said.

With the loss, Edmonton sits at 9th in the Western Conference out of the Playoff Picture but are tied with 43 points with the Winnipeg Jets for the 8th Seed.

"Still a ways to go for us. We just need to bounce back and win some games." Oilers Captain Connor McDavid said.

San Jose got on the board midway through the First Period with a Tomas Hertl goal. His 6th of the year.

Rookie J.J Hart, Timo Meier, Evander Kane, and Justin Braun all scored as the Sharks(27-10-3) beat the Oilers.

Goalie Martin Jones rebounded as well allowing one Goal on 21 shots.

Oilers Milan Lucic's 7th Goal of the year ended the shutout with a rebound goal in a wide open net that put Edmonton(20-15-3) on the board.

Goalie Mikko Koskinen turned away 37 shots as San Jose attacked the Oilers net often.

"We needed to get to the net often. Koskinen is a brick wall and you're not gonna beat him very often. We threw 42 shots at him." Sharks Forward Evander Kane stated.

The Sharks cleaned up their play as neither Team committed any penalties.

"Much better performance from us tonight after the past two games. When we play like that there's not a Team in the league who can beat us. We believe that and it showed tonight." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

San Jose(27-10-3) heads to Calgary on New Years Eve to play the Flames(21-14-4).

San Jose beat the Flames on November 11 2-1 in Overtime in San Jose.

                  December TOP 10

                  1. Colorado Avalanche(30-9-1)

                  Last Month: 1

Colorado continues their tear and leading the NHL with 61 points as the Avalanche is blowing up the league. Head Coach Jared Bednar has his Club firing on all cylinders with Varlamov leading in Wins, Rookie Jasper Atkinson leads the NHL with 39 Goals, Mackinnon has 41 Assists as the Avalanche continues to blow the opposition off the ice. Colorado looks to be the Team to beat and should clinch the #1 Seed in the Western Conference almost guaranteeing the West must go through the Mile High City.

                  2. San Jose Sharks(28-10-3)

                  Last Month: 2

The San Jose Sharks continue to chase Colorado for the 1 spot and are just 2 points behind. San Jose is set to meet Colorado in Denver to kick off January and this could be a Western Conference Finals Preview. The Sharks continue to prove they are serious Contenders in the Western Conference running away with the Pacific Division. As we enter the New Year San Jose will look to keep proving haters wrong and get back for a date with Lord Stanley.

                  3. Boston Bruins(27-11-2)

                  Last Month: 5

The Bruins jump up 2 spots as Boston continues to lead the Atlantic Division and has gone 16-1-1 at TD Garden. Head Coach Bruce Cassidy has the B's as a threat in the Eastern Conference since arriving in Boston in 2016. The Bruins still have a small core of the Champion Cup Team from 2011 in Captain Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, and David Krejci. Goaltender Tukka Rask is a brick wall between the pipes posting a 22-8-1 Record.

                  4. New York Rangers(24-12-2)

                  Last Month: 6

New York rises up 2 spots as the Rangers leads the Metropolitan Division with 50 points and 24 wins. Henrik Lundqvist continues to be a menace between the pipes against other Teams. Coach David Quinn has New York on a redemption year after missing out on the Playoffs last year. If the Rangers keep winning they will find themselves higher on this list in February.

                  5. Pittsburgh Penguins(22-15-2)

                  Last Month: 7

The Penguins continue to surge as they sit 4 points behind the Rangers in the Metropolitan Division. The Pens rise up 2 spots this month as the man behind the bench, Mike Sullivan has Pittsburgh on the rise for another Playoff appearence and he has his Core who helped him win back to back Stanley Cups. Sidney Crosby, Geno Malkin, Matt Murray, and Kris Letang all look to get the Pens another Stanley Cup Championship.

                  6. Chicago Blackhawks(20-18-4)

                  Last Month: 3

Chicago drops 3 spots as a inconsistent December have set the Hawks back. However having the best Coach in the NHL is still good enough as Coach Q looks to bring home another Stanley Cup Championship for the City of Chicago. Even with the Trade Rumors of Franchise Icon Jonathan Toews, the Hawks continue to push for another Playoff run.

                  7. Washington Capitals(20-16-2)

                  Last Month: 4

The defending Stanley Cup Champions land at #7 this month as they had a rough December falling further in the Metropolitan Division. Washington sits in 4th Place behind New York, Pittsburgh, and Columbus. The Caps are having a inconsistent year as Barry Trotz left for the Islanders and will try to win back to back Cups with the same core in place. Oshie, Ovechkin, Carlson, DSP, and Goalie Braden Holtby.

                  8. Nashville Predators(24-14-3)

                  Last Month: 10

Nashville has jumped 2 places after racking up 51 points heading into the New Year. However they continue to struggle to keep pace with the Central Division leading Colorado Avalanche sitting behind the Av's 10 points. But the Predators continue to win Games and Head Coach Peter Laviolette has Nashville on their way to another Playoff run.

                  9. Edmonton Oilers(21-15-3)

                  Last Month: 9

Todd McLellan's crew stays put at #9 as the Oilers have climbed in the Pacific Division. Edmonton currently sits in 4th Place but have been in a Playoff spot entering the New Year. Led by arguably the best Player in the league today Connor McDavid, the Oilers will look to climb higher on our list in February.

                  10. Arizona Coyotes(21-13-5)

                  Last Month: N/A

Cracking the list for the first time this Season are the Arizona Coyotes. And why not? The Desert Dogs are in 2nd Place behind the San Jose Sharks in the Pacific Division. They have already beaten the Sharks as well proving they can hang with the best. Rookie Josh Fisher leads the Team with 24 goals, Captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson has 33 Assists, and Goaltender Antti Raanta is 14-10-5. Head Coach Rick Tocchet looks to get Arizona back to the Playoffs for the first time since 2011-2012 where they lost in the Western Conference Finals to the LA Kings.

Denver, CO- The Colorado Avalanche(30-10-1) saw just how good the San Jose Sharks(20-10-3) are.

Tomas Hertl, Tyler Adams, JJ Hart, Joe Pavelski, and Gustav Nyquist all scored and the Sharks blew out the Av's 5-1 inside the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Colorado got a first look at how quick San Jose can be as 41 seconds in the First Period, Sharks Rookie Tyler Adams scored.

"It was quick. They got on us fast. That's the thing about San Jose this year. They'll get up on you quick. We simply didn't see it coming." Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bedner said.

The Avalanche showed exactly why they are the hottest Team in the NHL entering the New Year as they crashed the Sharks net often.

But Goalie Martin Jones held his ground by turning away 49 shots and keeping Colorado off the board until 34 seconds left in the Game when Avalanche Samuel Girard scored.

It was too late as San Jose held a 5-1 lead.

"Jonesy was unbelievable tonight for us. Doing what he did against a hot Team like Colorado is just amazing." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer said.

"You really have to respect what Jones did for them tonight. The man stopped almost 50 shots and was phenomenal for them between the pipes." Bedner added.

Colorado(30-10-1) decided to give Semyon Varlamov the night off and started backup Goaltender Kari Lehtonen(5-4)

Lehtonen absolutely struggled against the Sharks high paced Offense allowing 4 Goals on just 19 shots.

"They're a really fast paced squad and they have a lot of firepower over there." Lehtonen stated.

The Sharks(29-10-3) took a 4-0 lead until the 10 minute mark in the 3rd Period when the Avalanche pulled Kari Lehtonen and sent out Semyon Varlamov to stop the bleeding.

And now San Jose saw just how good the Avalanche Netminder really is as Varlamov allowed just one Goal on 18 shots by San Jose.

"He came in and took the game over in a way. We got a goal on him but you're really not going to beat him often." Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski said.

Martin Jones was 34 seconds away from his 6th Shutout of the year before letting a goal slip between his legs.

With the win, San Jose is now tied with Colorado with 61 points leading the NHL.

The Av's also saw first hand just how good the Fins Penalty Kill is as Colorado failed on 3 Power Plays including a 5 minute one after Sharks Alternate Captain was ejected for a Boarding call.

He left to the locker room for Misconduct.

"Wasn't intentional. It was an unfortunate accident on my end." Couture stated.

San Jose spent 26 minutes of Penalty time but killed the Avalanche's Power Play.

"They're one of the best in the League at killing Power Plays. We failed on our chances and that's how they beat you." Avalanche Jared Bedner added.

San Jose(29-10-3) heads home to meet the Tampa Bay Lightning(17-19-4) on Saturday Night.

The Sharks have won 3 in a row.

"The President's Trophy is a nice achievement but we have our eyes set on another Trophy. The fans of our City deserve a Championship. We're trying to give it to them." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

The Sharks got on the board with 4 minutes left in the First Period but the Lightning quickly tied it up.

Tampa Bay's fast paced Offense crashed the Sharks net but Goaltender Martin Jones held his ground turning away 33 shots.

Yanni Gourde, Tyler Johnson, and Alex Killorn scored for the Lightning while
Brent Burns, Kevin LaBanc, Logan Couture, and Gustav Nyquist all scored for the Sharks.

Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 25 shots as San Jose took a 3-1 lead into the 3rd Period. Tampa tied it up to force Overtime in which Sharks Forward Gustav Nyquist got the winning goal.

"We came back but couldn't keep the momentum or finish the job. San Jose is a good Team and they can get up on you quick." Lightning Head Coach Jon Cooper stated.

San Jose takes its 4 Game Winning Streak against the hated Rivals, The Los Angeles Kings(20-22-1) inside the SAP Center.

SHARKS win 6 in a row with 2-0 Shutout over OILERS!

                              RECAP

San Jose, CA- The San Jose Sharks(32-10-3) got on the board fast as Rookie Forward Tyler Adams blasted a slapshot past Oilers Goalie Mikko Koskinen.

Evander Kane's Empty Netter in the final seconds sealed the W for San Jose as the Sharks shutout their Pacific Rivals, Edmonton Oilers(23-17-3).

Adams 17th Goal in the first 53 seconds really got the Sharks going.

"It was nice to get that goal. Got up quick on them and we were able to keep the momentum going." Rookie Sharks Forward Tyler Adams stated.

But Oilers Netminder Mikko Koskinen shut the door afterwards turning away 28 shots.

"He's a really good Goaltender." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated. "We got one past him but he's usually always gonna be on top of that."

The Sharks held a 1-0 lead into the Third Period where Edmonton(23-17-3) struggled to get shots on Goal.

"We struggled tonight. No other way of putting it." Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan stated.

The Sharks faithful rained boos down on the Oilers bench and taunted their old Head Coach between the breaks.

It's a bitter history. McLellan spent so many years behind the bench of San Jose.

Martin Jones turned away 15 shots for his 8th Shutout of the year.

San Jose(32-10-3) will play the struggling Vegas Golden Knights(19-26-1) who sits at rock bottom in the Pacific Division struggling with major injuries and inconsistencies but have won 3 in a row.

Las Vegas, NV- The Vegas Golden Knights(20-26-1) continue to tackle adversity head on as they won their 4th Game in a row despite Star Players going down with injuries and sitting in 8th Place in the Pacific Division.

Vegas is down Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, Mark Stone with a separated Shoulder(Due back April 1st.), and Nate Schmidt with a Concussion(Due back March 16th.)

Back in November, San Jose crushed the Knights 7-2 where Jonathan Marchessault and Mark Stone was hurt.

The Knights got on the board quick with 2 Reilly Smith Goals. Ryan Reeves followed suit and Vegas had a 3-0 lead in just the First Period.

Alex Tuch's 2 Goals helped the Golden Knights pull away.

William Karlsson's Empty Netter sealed the Game for Vegas. He had a Goal earlier as well.

Vegas Rookie Goalie Rock Jacobs got some payback of his own allowing 3 Goals but turned away 45 shots.

Martin Jones was under fire all night allowing 6 Goals but turned away 49 shots from the Knights.

Curtis Sawyer got San Jose on the board in the 2nd Period. Justin Callahan and Brent Burns added Goals but

San Jose spent 17 minutes in the box allowing Vegas to have 6 Power Plays but they only scored on 2 of them.

Last year the Golden Knights beat the Sharks in the Playoffs as the two Franchises have started a rivalry including between Ryan Reeves and Evander Kane as the two dropped the gloves tonight.

The Sharks(32-11-3) will look to bounce back on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators(19-20-6).

San Jose beat Ottawa 2-1 back on December 1 in Canada.
