SHARKS bounce back with 5-3 Victory over SENATORS

          RECAP

San Jose, CA- After giving up 7 Goals in a loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, the San Jose Sharks(33-11-3) bounced back tonight with a 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators(19-21-6).

And the Sharks got on the board quick with a Joonas Donskoi goal. He would have 2 tonight.

Sens Goalie Craig Anderson turned away 24 shots allowing 4 Goals as San Jose crashed the net early and often.

          But Ottawa did the same.

Tying the Game at 1 with a Power Play Goal by Thomas Chabot. The Sens would get goals from Marian Gaborik and Bobby Ryan.

Sharks Goalie Martin Jones turned away 23 shots giving up 3 Goals as Ottawa battled back from a 3-1 deficit.

"We battled back there down 2 Goals and tied it up at 3. We just couldn't finish it afterwards." Senators Head Coach Guy Boucher said.

The Sharks pulled away for good with a Joe Thornton Goal in the 3rd Period.

Captain Joe Pavelski's Empty Netter sealed the 5-3 victory for San Jose.

"Great win for our Team. We lose in Vegas and bounce back here in our building. " Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer said.

Ottawa went 1/2 on the Power Play while San Jose shut down the second.

San Jose wil meet the Pittsburgh Penguins(26-17-2) on Tuesday Night inside the SAP Center.

EDIT: Game Saves got messed up and played the Penguins Game without realizing where I was at in my Dynasty.

"We find ways to win. That's the mentality of the guys in our locker room. We believe in each other and we feel like we can win any game when we're out there on the ice." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

Tampa Bay, FL- It's hard to believe that just last Summer the Tampa Bay Lightning were in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Washington Capitals.

After that Playoff loss, Hockey Town Legend Steve Yzerman stepped down as Lightning General Manager.

Rookie Goalie Joey Backstrom(11-0) turned away 26 shots and got

Logan Couture scored twice as the San Jose Sharks(36-11-3) completely dominated the Bolts inside the Amalie Arena much to the dismay of the Lightning crowd.

"We didn't stand a chance tonight. That's the reality of it." Lightning Head Coach John Cooper said.

The Lightning have now dropped to 5th in the Atlantic Division behind Boston, Buffalo, Toronto, and Montreal.

The Sharks 4 Game Road Trip continues where they head to Southern Florida and meet the Panthers(18-26-3) on Monday Night.

Miami, FL- The San Jose Sharks(37-11-3) continue their surge this year as they knock off the Florida Panthers(18-27-3) who have now lost 3 straight.

Florida has now hit rock bottom dropping to 8th in the Atlantic Division and 15th in the Eastern Conference.

"We're playing bad right now and just sloppy. There's no other way to explain it." Panthers Head Coach Bob Boughner said.

It was a 0-0 tie in the first 2 periods of tonight's Game between the Sharks and Panthers.

San Jose(37-11-3) struggled to get the puck in the net and the reason was that the man between the pipes is one of the best in the League, Roberto Luongo(14-20-2).

"He's hands down possibly the best Goalie in the NHL. We threw 30 shots or something at him and he's gonna beat you every time usually." Sharks Logan Couture stated.

The Sharks thought they got past Luongo at the start of the Third Period when Logan Couture's slapshot bounced off Luongo's chest and Timo Meier kicked it in but it was waved off.

"That kind of took our confidence away with that one. We felt like it was a good Goal but we had to rebound and not let it sink us." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

San Jose(37-11-3) will finally get past Luongo midway through the Third with a Brent Burns Slapshot for a 1-0 lead. His 7th of the year.

"I honestly thought I had it but you know San Jose is a really good Team this year." Luongo stated.

Luongo finished with 28 saves and allowing 2 Goals.

The Sharks opted to give Martin Jones some rest again so they turned to their stud Rookie Goaltender Joey Backstrom(12-0). He just recorded his 3rd Career Shutout in the Sharks 6-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday Night.

The Panthers would tie it up moments later off a Jonathan Huberdeau Goal.

"It got past me." Backstrom stated.

But then came the quick fire Sharks as with 33 Seconds left in the Game, Tomas Hertl found Evander Kane in the left corner of the net for a go ahead Goal.

Logan Couture's Empty Netter sealed the 5th straight win for the Sharks.

San Jose(37-11-3) will wrap up their 4 Game Road Trip tomorrow night before the All Star Break as they face their toughest challenge yet..

The defending Champions, Washington Capitals(26-19-3) in DC.

SHARKS tie it up but fall in Overtime to defending Champions CAPITALS 4-3...

                  RECAP

Washington, DC- Wrapping up their 4 Game Road Trip the San Jose Sharks(37-11-4) met possibly their toughest task yet.

                  The Washington Capitals(27-19-3).

And San Jose was up for the challenge.

Center Logan Couture got the Sharks on the board at the 12 minute mark for a 1-0 lead. But then the Caps showed San Jose why they are the defending Champions rattling off 3 straight goals past Martin Jones.

But the Sharks wouldn't go down without a fight.

Joe Thornton and Tomas Hertl would tie it up by the Third Period to force Overtime inside the Capital One Arena.

But DSP Devante Smith-Pelly's wrist shot past Martin Jones gave the Capitals the victory to snap San Jose's 5 Game winning streak.

Martin Jones finished with 21 saves as Braden Holtby had 24 saves. This wraps up the Sharks January as they take almost 2 weeks off with the break and will return to the Shark Tank on February 2 against the Coyotes.

                      January TOP 10

                      1. San Jose Sharks(37-11-4)

                      Last Month: 2

There is no hotter Team in the NHL right now than the Sharks. San Jose went on a 9-1-1 tear in January losing to Vegas and a Overtime Loss to the Washington Capitals. The Sharks are playing their best Hockey under Pete DeBoer and Martin Jones is leading the NHL in Shutouts. San Jose is running away with the Pacific Division and Presidents Trophy with 78 Points. The Road to the Stanley Cup just might go through the Shark Tank in the Western Conference.

                      2. Colorado Avalanche(34-13-3)

                      Last Month: 1

Colorado drops a spot this Month after taking a step back in January. Teams are starting to figure out the Avalanche and the AV's went 4-4-2 in January. However Colorado is still in 2nd Place with 71 points behind only San Jose. The Avalanche are still leading the Central Division with a 4 point lead over Nashville. February should be a rebound Month for the Avalanche.

                      3. Boston Bruins(34-15-2)

                      Last Month: 3

Boston is on a mission this year. To secure the #1 Seed in the Eastern Conference and ensure that the Stanley Cup Finals run through the Garden. The Bruins lead the East with 70 points and in firm control of the Atlantic Division. Goalie Tukka Rask leads with the most wins and Bruce Cassidy has his Squad looking for another date with Lord Stanley.

                      4. Pittsburgh Penguins(29-19-3)

                      Last Month: 5

The Penguins jump up a spot after a (7-4-1) January leap frogging into the 4 spot. Crosby and Company are on the hunt for another Stanley Cup and Pittsburgh is tied with the Rangers for 61 Points and First Place in the Metropolitan Division. If the Pens keep winning in February they may keep climbing on our list.

                      5. New York Rangers(29-18-3)

                      Last Month: 4

New York drops a spot but are still sitting in First Place tied with the Penguins in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers continue to play good hockey and Coach David Quinn has the Rangers on a redemption year. New York missed the Playoffs last year. If New York keeps their winning ways in the last couple months of the year, they will find themselves with a date in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

                      6. Washington Capitals(28-20-3)

                      Last Month: 7

The defending Champions Washington Capitals continue their surge as they look to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions. Washington rebounded in January with a 8-4-1 Record and the Caps sit in 3rd Place in the Metropolitan Division with 59 Points. Ovechkin and Company look to keep surging as the Season winds down.

                      7. Nashville Predators(32-18-3)

                      Last Month: 8

Nashville continues their climb jumping up a spot in January sitting just 2 points behind Colorado in the Central Division. Coach Laviolette has the Preds in a tight Division Race with the Avalanche. Should be no secret that if Nashville punches their ticket to the Stanley Cup Playoffs they have a Cup Winning Coach and a Team that was just there two years ago losing to the Penguins. This Preds Team is out for redemption.

                      8. Chicago Blackhawks(23-25-4)

                      Last Month: 6.

Chicago is in trouble. After a inconsistent December the Blackhawks dropped 7 of 10 Games in January dropping them to 6th Place in the Central Division and 12th in the Western Conference sitting 5 Points out of a Playoff spot. Rumors are circling that Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook, and others may be traded and if Chicago misses the Playoffs, Coach Q could be on his way out the door. The Hawks will need to rebound in February if they want another shot at Lord Stanley.

                      9. Edmonton Oilers(26-20-4)

                      Last Month: 9

Edmonton stays at #9 after going 5-5-2 in January. The Oilers continue to play sloppy but sit in 3rd Place in the Pacific Division with 56 Points. Todd McLellan has his Team climbing but slowly. If the Oilers can actually make some noise this month they may finally move up from the 9 spot.

                      10. Arizona Coyotes(24-20-6)

                      Last Month: 10

It's amazing that we kept Arizona on our list despite the horrendous January they had where they won just 3 Games. However if there's anything to be known about the Coyotes is that they never quit. We have a feeling Arizona can bounce back in February after dropping to 5th Place in the Pacific Division and 9th in the Western Conference. However the good news is that they're just one point out of a Playoff Spot.
