Normally we'd expect a knock down drag out fight between these two top of the table rivals in Juventus and Milan, and for the first 45 minutes we did as both teams faced off in an epic showdown that saw them with a 1-1 draw at the half. The first goal would be scored by midfielder Asamoah on a beautiful headed goal from a Benotner cross in the 33'. Boateng would add the equalizing header in the 45' off a corner kick from El Shaarawy to end the half. From there, it was all Milan as they blitzed their competition with 3 goals in the second half. Montolivo would get a couple, his first off a free kick that Abate would send in and Montolivo would head home. The second would come on a Carmona cross that would bounce in front of Montolivo and he would volley the ball into the bottom left corner. Allen would add a strike of his own on the nice assist from El Shaarawy into the box on a counter attack. Allen would push it past the keeper with finesse to end the game for a stunning 4-1 victory for Milan over the league leaders.

      v.

      Derby della Madonnina

      Serie A Competetion

Red and Black. Black and Blue. The Milan Derby was ready to rock the crowd at San Siro stadium for the two rivals first match of the season. The city of Milan had been divided all week as friends and family members awaited the matchup between the two old foes. The matchup would be an important contest as both teams sat in the top 5 of the Serie A table and this match would help propel a team forward in the table. The stage was set for another great one as the whistle blew and got the game underway.
Inter would score almost immediately much to the chagrin of the Milan supporters, as Destro would rebound bad clearance by Mexes and put it past Brkic for the immediate Inter lead. AC Milan would counter back later, pushing forward with strength moving the ball around the midfield with ease. El Shaarawy would make a mistake however, and Obi would poke the ball away and send Hernandez forward on the break. It was three attackers versus two defenders, and while Milan positioned themselves effectively, the extra pass cut between the two defenders from Destro to Hernandez for the quick finesse goal and the 2-0 lead for Inter off the counter attack. Inter played possession ball for the rest of the half, frustrating Milan and causing wild shots by Allen and Carmona just before the half ended.
The second half would see Inter assume control, expertly working the ball with their attacking midfielders Coutinho and Hernandez around the box. Milan would see a small chance open up on a counter as Boateng would find Allen in the middlewho would send a long pass in the air up the wing to Carmona. Carmona would cross it into the middle, but it was just out of the reach of Muntari. Centerback Juan Jesus went to clear the ball away, but instead it ricocheted off the back of his head and bounced backwards into the net for an own goal. Just like that, Milan found themselves back in the match in the 54'.
Milan would press forward in a swift attacking position, pushing the wings forward and allowing Boateng and Allen to orchestrate the offense in the middle of the field. Both would move without the ball extremely well, getting into good positions to try to find their wingers out wide. The chance soon came as Carmona broke free on the left. Allen would find him as he had a step on Ranocchia. Carmona would send in the cross as Boateng was streaking inside the box. He would elevate and put his head on it, cracking the ball into the top right corner for the equalizer in the 74'.
San Siro reached a fever pitch as the fans were either screaming in elation or groaning in agony as the teams once again met in the middle of the field for the restart. The game was coming down to the wire as time ticked away off the clock. The midfields of both teams were locked into a tight battle in the middle of the field, with neither team able to control possession for long as sloppy play and crisp tackles defined the end of the match. Suddenly, Destro decided to take a shot from way outside. Acerbi would get in front just in time and the ball would bounce off of him over the back line for a corner. Lass would line up to take the corner. Milan and Inter players alike shoved each other for position. The ball came up into the air, and on its way down somehow Leandro Damiao found it with his head. The ball would bounce once on the ground before rolling into the corner for the incredible header and the game winner for Inter late in the match. AC Milan fans would head home disappointed as Inter pulled off the amazing victory, 3-2 over their rivals in an amazing match in the December cold.

AC Milan v. FC Schalke 04

        Champions League Group Stage

Scoreboard watching was what AC Milan would be doing all match against FC Schalke, as they would need help in making it to the knockout stage of the Champions League. FC Schalke had already clinched their spot, but Manchester United controlled their own destiny in Group F after a thrilling victory over a distraught AC Milan squad a couple weeks ago. The final match day had arrived and Milan would need help in order to continue their run for the Champions Cup.
FC Schalke 04 came out with the same starting lineup that had beat Milan in their first meeting. Led by their striker Huntelaar, Schalke would look to control possession for long periods of time while pressing up the wings and crossing the ball and letting their big bodied midfield bang home goals. AC Milan would change their lineup a bit, this time giving Robinho and Strasser the start to give their team something different for this match. The match was ready to begin and both teams were ready to go.
The match began with Schalke in control, holding possession. Milan would use their superior speed to mark players quickly, but crisp passing by Schalke kept them at bay. Fuchs would get free on the left side and Hoger would find him up the wing. He would center it back to Draxler, but he could not find any room up front and dumped it back to Hoger. This type of play would continue on, as Schalke continued to hold the ball. In fact, their total possession for the game finished at a staggering 62% and most of this was done in the middle of the field. Milan would have to rely on quick counter attacks to try to convert a goal quickly.
Milan would finally get their first chance after most of the first half had expired. Strasser would find Boateng in the middle, and off Milan went to the races. Allen would get the ball just outside the penalty area and would send in a strike, but Unnerstall was ready and punched the ball away with authority. El Shaarawy would receive the rebound and cycle it back around to Allen via Boateng, but the young striker would be denied again, this time by a block from Howedes in the box.
Just as qucikly as the attack started, Milan would be put on the defensive again, as Schalke started their long, methodical push back into Milan territory. Huntelaar woulod finally add some pace to their attack, slicing past DeSciglio on a beautiful run with the ball. He would cut inside and shoot only to have it deflected out by Mexes over the backline. Schalke would get a conner attempt, but the ball sailed over everyone and would roll out to the side for a Milan throw in. The ball would be intercepted by Schalke, but the referee would blow the whistle, ending the first half.
This match was quite different than the high scoring affair that befell these teams in their last meeting, but it didn't make the match any less thrilling. The second half would begin the same way, as Schalke would take possession and control the beginning of the half. But this time, something would break in Milan's favor as Boateng poked the ball away from Neustadter and pushed forward, giving the ball to Robninho on the wing. Robinho would drive it the rest of the way, cutting back smoothly and leaving it off for Allen. Allen would give it back to Robinho, who would send it through to Boateng. Boateng would try to get it past Dede, but their was no room to be had so he tapped the ball with the outside of his left foot to give himself a bit of room and then in that small window booted the ball in between Dede and Fuchs. The ball sailed into the back of the net and Milan found themselves ahead in the 50'.
FC Schalke 04 seemed to close into a defensive shell after that, making two substitutions and seeming content with the loss. Milan would press forward again, but they just couldn't seem to get up to speed before Schalke would rebuff their attempts. Allen would get serveral more opportunities, but none were great looks as Schalke continued to keep everyone back. As the time continued to draw to a close, the eyes of everyone began to draw to the nearest scorebaord as Manchester United increased their goal lead to 2 over Galatasaray. Their fate all but sealed, Milan continued to fight valiantly in their match, but it would all be in vain as the match drew to a close. Milan would win the hard fought match over Schalke 1-0, but it would be too little too late as they would be sent home by Manchester United's victory of Galatasaray. Milan would head home, wondering where they went wrong in their inconsistent cup performance. Hopefully for their sake they get another chance next year to erase this terrible showing.

Breaking News: AC Milan Fire Sale
            by Pete Patterson

Could Alvin Allen be on his way out of Milan?

We have breaking news coming out of AC Milan that all of their players are open for consideration. Our sources say that owner Silvio Berlusconi was so upset by the Champions League result that he is considered scrapping this team and starting from scratch. We caught up to him at the team facilities, and he didn't do much to dispel those rumors.
"What are your expectations now that you are out of the Champions League?" our Italian correspondent Davide Siviglia asked.
"My expectations are that we win," Belusconi replied, "We need winners. If the players here don't want to win, we will find those who will.
Already we have learned that Pato and Acerbi have been freshly transfer listed, but our sources tell us that everyone is on the table to be moved, including stars such as El Shaarawy and Alvin Allen. Would Berlusconi really be willing to scrap a good team at this point or is it all just a ploy to motivate his team to play better? Well we only have a couple more weeks to wait as the January transfer window is right around the corner.

              Summary:
Well it looks like Napoli will need to go back to the drawing board on this one and chalk the loss up to a mad Milan team coming off of their Champions League loss. The lob sided match began with a goal in the 4' as Allen sent an over the top through pass to El Shaarawy that he would finish wiht authority, and from then on it was off to the races. Napoli keeper Rosati couldn't get a break, as shot after shot seemed to find its way into the back of the net. El Shaarawy would add another goal in the 17', spinning around Urini making him look silly and putting a strike into the top right corner past Rosati's outstretched arms for his second goal. Boateng would get a goal on a nice through ball from de Jong, and Carmona would add another two of his own, the last coming off another long through ball from Allen would did a great job of distributing the ball this match. For Milan's sake, hopefully this win proved to Berlusconi that his team is worth keeping in tact for a run at the Serie A crown.

Tough result in Champions League. Milan had the most points of any team that failed to qualify for the next round.

Yeah, I feel a bit cheated, but what can I say? The team lost too many matches.

                    Summary:
Atalanta was geared up to face Milan after a supreme run of good form in its past several matches. Milan played terribly, allowing Atalanta to control pace, possession, and momentum as they completely dominated the visiting side. However, the one place where they couldn't dominate Milan was the scoreboard, and in the end that was all that mattered. Atalanta striker Moralez took 5 shots, right midfielder Bonaventura took 3, and center midfielder Schelutto took 3 as well. By the end of the match, Atalanta had taken a staggering 16 shots, well past double of their opponent Milan. However, none of the Atalanta players would be able to convert as steller back line play and a hot keeper in Brkic kept the home side at bay for the entire match. As the match was beginning to look like a draw, Allen won his team a corner kick after getting the ball poked away over the back line by his United States teammate Ream. In the 90' El shaarawy would take the corner kick and Montolivo would find it with his head and hit the ball into the corner of the net for the game winning goal. A distraught Atalanta side will have to remain vigilant as these two teams will once again meet in the Coppa Nazionale in only a couple of weeks.

Transfer Window Shocker: AC Milan Star Allen Sold, Refuses to Sign
                      by Pete Patterson

Berlusconi proved a man of his word by starting the dismantling process of his team AC Milan by selling United States star forward Alvin Allen to Bayern Munich for a reported 35 million dollars. However, today Alvin Allen refused the deal in a press conference with his agent, citing his love for the city of Milan and the wonderful time he is having at the club.
"I have no intention of leaving AC Milan," Allen said in a statement today. "Milan has become my home, and I fully intend to honor my commitment to this team and these fans by doing my best to try to bring home a championship to this historic club."
In response to a direct question on how his refusal would affect his relationship with the owner Berlusconi, Allen answered, "I understand the feelings my boss has about how we performed in the Champions Cup, and I am too angry about our poor showing. However, I am committed to this team and this team only for the time being. I am honored that Bayern thought highly enough of me to offer a contract, but my heart is in Milan."
Strong words from the young man Alvin Allen, but many believe that this was a ploy to have Bayern offer him more in wages. Our sources state that 90,000 per week was offered which would have more than quadrupled Allen's current salary of 20,000 per week, but his agent believes he could garner even more money just before the end of the January transfer market either from Bayern, or possibly another suitor. Rumors are that Real Madrid is also interested in the striker, and perhaps Allen could garner a bidding war for his services by waiting. Were his strong words sincere, or will Allen leave before theend of the window? If he stays, how will it affect his relationship with Berlusconi? Only a few short weeks remain and we will have our answer, but right now, it looks like the "American Messi" is garnering lots of attention on the open market.

Transfer window isn't closed yet...but I really like AC Milan. The only thing I wish I could change is their formation. I don't like playing CF.

Hmm, maybe Bayern will up the offer for Allen?

That's a lot of money he turned how. I hope he gets offered another deal.

                              Summary:
This battle between two top teams was a battle of similar styles, as both teams played fast up front and pushed the pace with their forwards off counter attacks from the midfield. The trouble was that neither team could work their speed game as each team waited on the other too make a mistake. The first half featured bogged down, sloppy turnovers by offensive players trying to due to much. Strikers Muriel and Allen for Udinese and Milan respectively, took too many wild shots while sometimes being defended by two or three defenders. The defining word for this game would be adjustment. Udinese came back with the same strategy they had at the beginning of the match. Milan changed their game by centering their attacks in the midfield, with slow possession football aimed at lulling their opponent into mistakes, then finding the windows and striking. The goals would come quickly after. In the 53' Montolivo would pass a through ball to Allen that he would put into the upper right corner for the first goal of the match. In the 63' Carmona would send in a cross after a long build up that Allen would volley home for his second goal. Allen would get his hat trick after another long build up in Udinese territory. De Jong would send a through ball that looked eerily similar to the first goal as Allen would put it home with his left foot into the bottom right of the net. Jelavic would finally put Udinese on the board with a headed goal off a cross by Arabaini on a counter attack, but Muntari would finish them off in the 87' with a goal of his own, assisted by El Shaarawy. This is the 3rd win in a row for a team that had looked like it lost its way. It looks like AC Milan is now on a roll.

                                Summary:
The highly anticipated rematch between Atalanta and Milan ultimately proved uneventful as Milan dominated play from the beginning. The final score seemed deceitful as Milan controlled play throughout, dominating time of possession at a staggering 67% advantage. The first goal showcased beautiful teamwork from Milan as Allen would pass to Boateng just outsid ethe box. Boating would turn and hit El Shaarawy who would one time it to Emanuelson inside. Emanuelson would one time the pass with a finesse shot into the bottom corner that the keeper didn't stand a chance to reach. The restart wouldn't go well for Atalanta either as somehow bad pass backward to the keeper by Ream didn't get there. Allen would pounce and send the wide open shot into the net for the 2-0 lead. Denis would add a goal of his own on a shot from way outsdie the box that caught Brkic off guard, but from that point into the second half Milan would control possession and play keep away from Atalanta as they struggled to get back into the game. The final whistle would blow and Milan would move onward in their quest for the Italian Cup.
