Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
My mistake, I would actually not be surprised with them joining. Should ask AA, he does seem to have a better crystal ball with this situation.Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
Still can't see how any other school besides Clemson fits better for the 14th team. They have two long-time rivals in the conference, and South Carolina doesn't have the clout to block them (as opposed to Florida opposing FSU). Unless the #1 priority for the SEC is to expand to a new media market, nobody fits better than Clemson.Comment

I know this is a little off topic but another domino may or may not fall tonight;
Looks Like BYU is getting ready to make a statement about their conference affiliation"If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
TCU's fan base is pretty poor. There is no way they get into the SEC. They couldn't even sell out their stadium consistently last year when they went 13-0.
The Big East was just concerned about getting a good football program and big media market into the conference when they added them because they certainly didn't do it because of a rabid fan base.Comment

Good article on why teams interested in the SEC need to reevaluate:

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
First off, let me just say this: CALLED IT! Auburn and I (among many others were on it all along). However, I think the Big XII will find another team to attempt to replace aTm. Maybe Houston, maybe SMU, but probably another Texas team.
Next, the 14th team is going to be Virginia Tech. This new edition of conference expansion will not eliminate any conferences, but will result in the weakening of the ACC and Big XII. Whenever re-alignment happens will be the demise of the ACC and Big XII.
Good move for Texas A&M. Let's hope HQ doesn't screw them up like they did Nebraska.Comment

1) UVA had to go out on a limb to get VT in the ACC
2) UVA and VT are a package deal and UVA ain't goin anywhere
3) the talking heads for VT have basically said screw the SEC on multiple occasions latelyComment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
If the 14th team is an ACC team, then who does the ACC poach? Conventional wisdom says a Big East team but the Big East is supposedly going to ink a huge TV deal with NBC, so who knows?Comment

Re: A&M to the SEC starting to blow up again on Twitter
True, but there are teams with more influence than others. I don't think that's the big issue. I think Clemson is more likely than FSU because of location. FSU is in Florida - a state that is heavily recruited by all the SEC teams, and putting a second team in that state into the conference would probably hurt everyone's recruiting. Of the 82 recruits from South Carolina from last year's class listed on ESPN, not a single one went to an SEC school other than USC. And this year, out of 44, only #10, #12, and #39 (Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky) went to SEC schools outside of the state. In Florida, however, 6 of the top 10 recruits are going to the SEC, and only one of those is going to the Gators. I think the conference as a whole would be much more likely to okay a second South Carolina school than a second Florida school.
I don't think Clemson is the SEC's first choice. I think VaTech and maybe either West Virginia or Missouri would be ahead of them (maybe). But I think Clemson fits. It seems like much more of an SEC school than an ACC school. They have good rivalries with two teams already. They aren't going to be top dog in the east, but they won't be at the bottom either. They'll contend for a conference title here and there. They aren't the sexy name, and they don't really add a lot (no new market, etc), but I think they're a real good fit. If the SEC can't make the big splash with Team #14, then I think they'll go Clemson. And I imagine Clemson would say yes. I really do think being in the SEC would be great for them. I think it would be better for Clemson than it would be for just about any other team mentioned (though it wouldn't necessarily be better for the SEC).Comment
