I don't know if that would be possible, maybe something along the lines of how PFF evaluates players. So someone with a positive grade is worthy of a new contract and a player with a negative grade can become a free agent.
I only give high value contracts to those that have a lot of potential value (according to my spreadsheet), those that have a decent level of potential (but have a lot of experience banked), or perennial starters who have zero roster competition. Everyone else is offered their requested salary +20%, but with no bonus. They end up being release fodder down the line if I find someone better/cheaper in FA or in the draft.

Edit: Adding this little bit. I don't extend a backup to a long term high value contract if they have high potential, but aren't the projected starter. An example in my past offseason, I had a MLB go down in preseason with a season ending injury. His backup came in, dominated, and nearly won Defensive Player of the Year (second in total tackles, top 5 in sacks, decent forced fumble amount). He was also in a contract year (and had 110k experience points saved up...mind you, I gave him no game prep and simmed the entire season). He wanted a $7m/4 year contract. Without spending his experience, he was still considered the backup, but I knew with spending his experience, he would jump up and become the starter. I ended up giving him $8m/2. More than twice the annual he asked for, for half the years. This would at least give him the chance to get a huge contract when he hit 26 (he was 24 at this time). After resigning him, I pumped him up, and he jumped from 74 to 91 (also bumped him to superstar from normal). 2 years down the line, he will most likely be 95+ and be asking for a ton of cash.

I want to try and play this as close to real as possible. Id never try to sign a player like the previous mentioned to a max length contract for the minimum he will accept, then boost him. But that's just my style.

Edit#2: As for deserving roster spots. If someone played 0 downs for me, I most likely won't resign them, unless they are a project. If someone had an amazing season, and is in their prime, I'll give them a contract. Average season (prime or not), may get an offer depending on position depth and what the draft looks like. If someone has played poorly for their contract length, they won't stay (typically these people get released in preseason prior to needing to resign them).

what attributes does everyone focus on for OL...I used the tool last night and got a night WR, DE, and CB, but my Olinemen were all like 60 OVR. I used Run blocking, Pass blocking, and Impact blocking....

        Re: JRT2006's Madden Scouting Tool

I LOVE the Roster Evaluation tool! Haven't gotten the Scouting one out yet but if it's half as good as the other, I'm beyond satisfied. Since I haven't played more than a season or two before getting the new version of Madden before, I always just played "what-ifs" and did crazy things with the roster to have fun and be random. After getting my roster together, I can already see moves that make sense...like trying to trade my best-ranked (but old) DE so I can try to avoid the big cap penalty that would come from cutting him. I can already tell this is going to help me get further along (maybe even skip 16!).

I get how to explore free agents with this and player/player trades work pretty well, too. I know there are pick/pick trade calculators out there (mainly for trading up/down) but would like to see something to help with player/pick trades. Some trades involving picks would probably be obvious but I like to make sure things are fairly balanced in terms of incoming/outgoing assets. Has anyone that uses this tool figured out a good way to put a "value" on draft picks that you'd give (or get) in exchange for a player?

The only other suggestion that I might have for the tool is to add in a column/sheet somewhere that would allow users to keep track of what they're trying to do for a player in terms of skills/traits. I tried to do this but it seemed to mess with the calculations so I just used a new sheet instead. Since some of these things are pretty "expensive" and might take a while to earn enough XP, this helps keep me from forgetting why I have 20,000 XP just sitting on this one guy when I'm really saving for a 30,000 XP trait or something. I did that once where I had saved 80% of the points needed and then got a bunch of cheaper upgrades because I forgot what I wanted.

Has anyone tracked the production grade we are given and how it relates to the players overall once drafted?

I have noticed a consistent correlation between college production and intangibles like awareness and play recognition.

Please excuse my ignorance, I am completely new to all of this. I only have the scouting worksheet and need a step by step guide. Does anybody know if a tutorial exist on youtube? If not, any help here would you be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the inconvenience.

So I just started using this tool for the first time. I scout the players I wanted and put the info onto the spread sheet. But when I click the "generate draft board" button nothing happens. Am I missing something? Is anyone else having this problem? Any help would be great. I just spent more time than I care to admit scouting all my players. I might go insane if it was all for nothing.

                      I'm having the same issue.

If anyone has a solution I'd be hugely grateful.

                        Did you enable macros?
which version of access do you have or what program are you using?

I'm using open office and I have macros enabled. Does it not work with open office?

It does work with open office but I'm not sure what you have to do.

Macros are enabled. Im using Excel 2007, is there a more compatible program to use?

It should work with 2007, are you getting any kind of errors?
