yeah the cpu will run more if they are ahead even with these playbooks.

the Patriots offense is really balanced this year anyway. personally i would give them the Balanced playbook.

Games are all about a few factors, establishing the run, which in turn leads to a good pass game. The run game is all about controlling TOP. A person could throw alot more during a game, but if the passes arent complete that stops the clock, and if they score in 5/6 plays on average that leaves the opponenet with mroe time to come back.
I really have a slow methodical approach. I really dink and dunk my way up the field and mix it up with runs. I think thats the approach the default playbooks have.
anways Im having fun with MAdden this year, so I cant complain
glad ur having fun..not sure why u would come on this thread and clog it up if you have nothing to add...but again to each his own

Does this work on Play Now with one controller? I'll switch the cpu playbook along with their jersey but once I'm in the game, im still getting run heavy offense even though I selected Pass Balanced. I'm fairly certain it saved since the jersey was custom for cpu

yes it works. just set the the cpu jersey and playbook first. then do yours, then hit ready.

but in Play Now, u can just fix the teams gameplan yourself. although that would be time consuming for every team lol.

I am a big fan of this thread. Great work everyone! Two comments:

              - While I trust the judgment and the playbooks look good in the OP perhaps the best way to do it is to look at the current seasons Pass/Run ratios and then tie that to the playbook that offers the best match. I say this because there are always going to be misconceptions about teams playing styles. Most of us follow our own team and aren't really in tune with the other 31 teams. The Pats for example most would think of at first glance as pass heavy but this year they are more balanced which was reflected in the OP thankfully. There could be other teams that we have these misconceptions about and the best way to clear these up are to look at the run/pass attempts of the current season. I may edit this post with those stats if anyone cares.

              - These tweaks look to be working great for the offensive side of the ball but there is also an option to change the defensive playbooks too. One of the biggest complaints people have with the CPUs playcalling on defense is that they throw too many zone coverages at you which are quite easy to pick apart. It's not just the frequency of the zone coverages but the fact that they work poorly. Also the CPU tends to blitz at stupid times. Perhaps we can identify the best defensive playbooks and assign them to teams based on 3-4/4-3 formation. The generics for defensive aren't as extensive, but as noted some of the offensive teams playbook such as 'Lions' are usable and this may be the case with some of the teams defensive playbooks. Just a thought I had to see if its possible to eliminate the heavy zone coverage/dumb CPU all out blitzing on 3rd down

I would be interested..I was wondering and debating bring up D Playbooks..however I think we can all agree the O Playbooks were so over the top bad that it had to be address first...one quick thought for any computer guys or programmers..wouldn't this be a quick fix (ie tuner)..I would think its just a fix of the "star program"..I'm going to start going through the d playbooks right now and see if they are also a "mess"

this is based on stats for the most part already if im not wrong.

love the idea with the defense playbook if it can work!

This is why the alternative set I posted a few pages back is based strictly on what the in game scheme is for that team.

I think the defensive playbooks are fair, or good for what the defensive logic is....The Zone assignments, rules, coverage assignment variations are lacking there, so nothing can be done beyond the minimal zone placement adjustments pre-snap, if time even permits all the re-assignments needed to get any chance at a mediocre zone simulation....

Unless I am missing something we cannot even designate zone size....I make a new Blue deep zone and it is tiny compared to the stock zone....I should be able to designate 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3 zone sizes across the field....

And if there is no deep backup to someone covering a flat or medium zone (yellows), then it should be the responsibility of the defender to follow the deepest threat that enters his zone....No?

Yes but who decided on those schemes for which teams? The Madden Dev team.. who also got the playbooks completely wrong. I don't have much trust for them plus they set those schemes based on the expectations on how a team would play in the 2012 season. We have 7 weeks of stats we can get a better definition of each team at this point in the season and set it up better I feel.

I mean for teams like NYJ obviously they are Power Run. But speaking for myself I don't follow every team closely I have no damn idea what type of team the Bengals or Cincinnati are and thats on top of peoples inherent bias' for and against teams. I just want my teams ingame to matchup as realistically as they perform in the real NFL. The best way to acheive that is through the first 6 weeks of stats we have available to us.

EX: The Patriots scheme is listed as Spread but reality this year they have been playing more Balanced.

EX 2: Your listing of the EA Schemes has the Bills listed as Spread as well, which is tied to Run-n-Gun playbook. On the OP most people interpret the Bills to be Run Balanced. Thats a pretty big difference and the best way to settle that argument would be to turn to the stats. That's the only point im bringing up I appreciate your list it is very helpful! Heres some stats I threw together from ProFootballFocus

                            Bills 2012 Splits
                            184 Passing attempts
                            175 Running attempts

                            11.4 Average YPC

                            Passing breakdown
                            29 attempts behind LOS
                            84 attempts 0-9 yards
                            43 attempts 10-19 yards
                            20 attempts 20+ yards

                            Patriots 2012 Splits
                            243 Passing attempts
                            217 Running attempts

                            11.5 Average YPC

                            Passing breakdown
                            25 attempts behind LOS
                            133 attempts 0-9 yards
                            40 attempts 10-19 yards
                            32 attempts 20+ yards

just something quick I threw together. Im sure we could find other stats to define teams playing styles. But today is Sunday. Today is not a stat day.

Ok so I went back through each O-playbook for each team..and I think we all agree main issue is 1st and 2nd down..so the below playbooks have pass plays with more then one star on 1st and 2nd down..now it's not as good as saw "balance playbook or even run heavy" but I'm going to test one and see how bad they are..at least it may give us more options..all the other play books are a "mess" on 1st and 2nd down..or at least in my eyes..

Just a thought I had to see if its possible to eliminate the heavy zone coverage/dumb CPU all out blitzing on 3rd down

alright. so due to BrianU's advice i took a look at the Defensive playbooks & gameplans. now i didnt look at every teams gameplan but i did take a look at quite a few teams plus all the generic playbooks as well.

now i can say with certainty that overall teams run too much zone. teams like Denver and the Giants (who i think favor man coverage a little more) have too many pure zone plays. and this isnt a problem with the Star system. there are just more zones in the gameplan than man coverage plays. the Eagles also had alot of zone/zone blitz plays in their gameplan.

Now correct me if i am wrong, but i see the Cardinals as man coverage team. i highly doubt with Patrick Peterson that they run this much zone normally....

now before you go crazy lol, this was the only playbook where i saw this much pure zone.

the Generic playbooks are a little better in that you will probably see a little less cover 2 and cover 3 plays called. there are 5 generic playbooks

                                4-3
                                3-4
                                46
                                cover 2
