Re: NFL 2k COMEBACK? License not exclusive?

Was just scouring the interwebs and found this interesting tidbit of information.

    http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/30/5765122/football-heroes-pro-edition-nfl-players

I am very curious as to whether this will allow 2K to use the players in the game even if the teams of the NFL are not included. It would certainly be a start!

The license was exclusive to consoles, so this game works outside of those boundaries anyway.
      Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60

I'm pretty sure that this was brought up earlier in the thread and any game manufacturer can make a game on mobile because that genre doesn't compete with consoles.

We'll all have a clearer picture in a week or so.

Madden may not have been "recycling" games, but they're well behind NBA 2k,The Show, & Fifa. That's not a matter of opinion.

Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense from that perspective I suppose. It is sad that I am looking for hope as much as I am right now.

I agree with this. In fact it may have even regressed both on and off the field.

For example, the gaming media's coverage of SimCity 2013 (server issues which prevented any gameplay), Diablo 3 (server issues at launch which prevented any gameplay), NBA 2K14 (server issues which prevented any gameplay in MyGM at launch on PS4 / XBOX One), Battlefield 4 (countless technical and server issues, some still ongoing), Ride To Hell: Retribution (countless technical issues), Aliens: Colonial Marines (countless technical issues), Dead Island (countless technical issues), Watch_Dogs (uPlay login issues on launch day which prevented gameplay)... you get my point. These games actually didn't function and/or actually had major crash issues. The popularity of these games is all over the board compared to Madden NFL, and Madden - one of the staple franchises of the American video game landscape - would surely get some amount of attention if it was truly an unplayable broken mess of a game. Heck, if Madden NFL were truly full of rampant crashes and freezes, surely this website of all places would run a piece about the matter.

The two major technical problems I even remember Madden NFL having are a hard-crash issue in practice mode in either Madden 09 or Madden 10 (not both, I just forget which version) which was patched, and a non-crash issue in the PS3 Season Ticket version of Madden 25 in which players disappeared from the field which was also patched before the game launched. I can't ever remember an issue existing in which any Madden NFL was routinely unplayable to the likes of any other game I've listed above. If you're going to criticize Madden for patching out crash issues here, fine, but please be consistent and also criticize every other video game in the modern-day gaming landscape as patches are expectation and normal nowadays.

On a personal anecdote level (knowing full-well that personal anecdotes aren't regarded as reliable and so you're going to take this with an entire shaker of salt, but whatever), I remember experiencing a hard crash in Madden NFL exactly once in fifteen years I've been playing Madden games, and I regard it as one of the most stable console video games I've owned if nothing else. NCAA Football is a different story, admittedly, and I also qualify the preceding statement by saying there's a big difference between "hard crash issues" and "bugs in functionality", which by virtue of playing Madden 13 alone I've experienced a good number.

It's one thing to criticize the game for legitimate shortcomings as a football game or bugs in intended functionality - again, for example, Connected Careers mode in Madden NFL 13 was a bit of a mess with respect to the number of functionality bugs, or whatever implementation issues exist in the game which break the authenticity of the game's simulation of pro football - but the statement above as you've offered it simply isn't true, there's no basis for it, and I don't understand how you can begin to offer it.
You have not even played the next gen version of Madden 25. It's not CLOSE to a lie. Madden 25 on next gen is riddled with freezes and crashes. Since you admitted that you haven't even played the game, don't go making accusations here where you have no grounds to do so. There is a lot more I would like to write here and I'm sure a large group would also like me to, but I won't out of respect for OS.

Don't go calling people liars when you have no grounds to do so. That's all I will say about that.

Exactly. At times it seems like it has gone backwards. From poor draft logic, poor off season logic in general, weird AI play calling, especially late in games. List goes on.

When the CPU calls a HB Draw when at the 50 and down by five points with 0:09 left and no time outs...? Yes, a thousand times yes.

How about when the cpu will call timeouts in the waning seconds because it thinks it's icing the kicker, even though there is one thing missing. You aren't kicking! Basically, it's hard coded to simply call timeouts based on the clock, not on the situation.

Anyway, let's hope for a return.

Wow, this thread's turned into a dumpster fire! I had been enjoying all the speculation, dreaming/hoping for a return of 2K football, apparently not anymore.

It's just reality setting in for people, it's looking more and more like this is not gonna happen. So the thread is veering off-topic.

Huh? Maybe I missed something but what exactly happened to make it look "more and more like this is not gonna happen"?

Imo, the discussion veered because we are all in a holding pattern until E3.

Actually that's not it at all. It's just that a few people got way off topic.

I'm still holding out hope for some football-related announcement from Take Two. And at this point in football videogaming history, I don't even care what the announcement is. Anything to give us hope for a quality football title, I'll take it, even if it's just the announcement of an NFLPA game with no NFL branding slated for August 2015.

I have hopes that they will be releasing a prototype build of a football title in development.

I really want them to shock the sports gaming world and announce the game we hope for this year. Time will tell... If they don't announce it this year I will basically lose hope for any 2K Football ever again.
