How about shortening the half time show? Nobody will miss having a musical act.

Maybe just let the TV network doing the game concentrate on the game itself.
I would LOVE a detailed analysis of the game, maybe some history of the teams that got that far, etc, etc. Nowadays, so many other networks put on things specifically to go against the superbowl, so let MTV or someone do a "Big Game Day" concert if they want. I'm pretty sure the NFL won't lose any money if they cut the music act.

I'd rather a musical act over detailed analysis or history lesson. More times than not (when the Patriots are NOT involved) I'm at a SB party. I have no use for anything other than background noise at halftime.

Why not just keep it the regular half time length, 10 minutes, time for a quick recap and analysis, some commercials, back to the game?

But maybe the extended half time lets them sell more commercials time.

Isn't that what we get every hour of every day for almost two weeks prior though? And now media day in prime time, weeee.

Kinda liked MTVs Celebrity Deathmatch counter-programming. All we have now is what, the puppy-bowl?

Disney could make things interesting if they tossed new footage of Cap 3: Civil War and early Star Wars Rogue One stuff on ABC for halftime.

Because the Super Bowl is an event that brings monster ratings. The commercials and halftime performance are part of the appeal.

For sure it's about commercials. They're not as worried about losing viewers at half-time, so they're fine with halftime going on for 45 min.

But during the build up to the SB they talk about what they expect. I would like a halftime show where they go into detail on what each team is doing. I mean actual analysis and not stuff like "they gotta get Lynch involved more."

Show us what each defense has been doing in coverage or what concepts the offense is running.

When you think of the depth of the sport, and the depth of the TV analysis, there seems to be a mismatch in my opinion.

A week ago, Rodney Harrison said he's worried that some team might take a cheap shot on Brady, thereby endangering the Patriots' season.

A little rich coming from him of all people.

Bengals/Cards game Week 11 (which I'm going to attend!) has been flexed to Sunday Night! They will undoubtedly do the buildup of Palmer vs his old (hopefully still undefeated) team.

Actually proves my point. If I'm at a party I couldn't care less what was on the tv at halftime. That 30 mins is all the time the annoying woman who won't shut up will get any attention from me. If I'm not at a party, I'm still fine grabbing some snacks and a beer refill, etc, etc.

I'm not one to say all the halftime shows have been horrible, I've actually enjoyed some of them (even a good concert ain't that great in the few minutes they have). But I can do without them... they're pretty pointless if you ask me. People that started watching the SB aren't watching for the halftime show, and they're not going to watch something else if there isn't one. Other than something useful related to the game, you could put static on my screen during halftime and it'd effect me as much as any halftime show.

Well I'd love to cut down on all that prehype crap too, but we know that's not going to happen.

But my thought wasn't really about fluff pieces on someone's mom, or how someone else almost played baseball, etc, etc. Do some in-game film break down, pull stats of what the team did against other teams this year who tried similar strategies... even throw in some video if you can pull it quick enough.

Let's be real, they say they don't want female and casual viewers to turn away, but none of them are changing the channel. They'll go do something else until the game comes back on just like most of us actual hardcore fans already do.

Commercials, yes. Halftime show, not so much. I literally have never heard anyone excited for the SB halftime show.

Maybe not excited but the halftime performance is always a hot topic on social media and non-sports related shows. Sports are a form of entertainment. Halftime show serves a purpose and isn't going anywhere. It's another thing for sports fans and casuals to discuss and yap about.

No one is arguing the halftime performance is a must-see event. But let's not dismiss the thing altogether. The Super Bowl caters to a wide audience and the performance is a big part of the spectacle whether cranky football fans like or not.

I'm talking the only thing the NFL cares about... money. They would not lose a single penny if they cut the halftime performance.

That doesn't mean they'll do it, but it wouldn't hurt their bottom line one bit.

EDIT to add, that's probably why they started trying to get the acts to pay them to perform at the SB. Don't know what happened to that idea (I'm sure most acts told them to kick rocks, rightfully so) but this isn't the Grammy's.

I never understood the point of the Super Bowl halftime show or anyone who looks forward to performers playing just a couple songs in this or any other similar situation.

When I go to, watch, or listen to a concert, I want to and expect to hear two hours of music. 10 minutes of someone's work doesn't do jack **** for me.

And yeah Marino, if Carolina beats Indianapolis, Houston and Indianapolis will be "tied" for the division lead but the Colts have a tiebreaker.
