The Hornets leaving Charlotte ruined my interest in basketball. I've only gotten back into it since the Hornets name returned to the new franchise. The Bobcats just weren't the same.

I would imagine if the Panthers left, it would do the same to my interest in the NFL.

That's how I feel about the Raiders. I've said it here before, but I'll be OK with it if they stay in California, anywhere outside that and I can't see myself staying a fan.

I'll support the Raiders as the team in the AFC I want to see do well if they move to Vegas.

I, for one, hope it happens - not that that means anything.

'Fins to hold non-traditional, non-practice rookie camp

Per the Miami Herald, Gase will take the team's draft picks and undrafted free agents -- 18 in total -- and educate them on scheme instead of forcing them onto the practice field for nebulous workouts. Outside of avoiding injury, it also avoids the "firehose" effect as some coaches call it -- the act of hurling a ton of information at rookies in a short period of time during training camp. Armando Salguero also notes that it will avoid further strain on rookies who just finished a season before training non-stop for the combine and pro day.

That will hurt the UDFA, they shouldn't sign with Miami. They have limited time to impress the coaches on the field and now you are taking away time when they usually get the most practice time.

                      Re: NFL Off Topic

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, rookie coach Adam Gase decided to change up the traditional approach to the first weekend of work for his rookies, by eliminating the practices that are usually a staple.

That means the eight picks and 10 undrafted rookies will go through some classroom work on the Dolphins’ schemes, but spend the rest of their time on topics including nutrition, financial planning, sports science, and dealing with the media.

Of course, that’s a lot of the stuff that would have been covered at the rookie symposium, before that event was canceled in lieu of local programs.

The Dolphins are also hoping it helps keep legs fresh, since rookies have been training in earnest for months in preparation for the Scouting Combine.

Rookie minicamps are often full of guys there on a try-out basis so they can fill out lines, so the actually utility of those practices might be debatable anyway except in the cases of high-pick quarterbacks who need all the reps they can get.
Sounds like it's not hurting anybody.

Not even a fantasy football fan, just legitimately curious why this is a thing.

Are they making money off of it? If the answer is NO, then you have your answer.
