Re: NFL Off Topic
I'm not sure I agree that should be a felony, but I don't really have much experience with criminal law/charges, and, well, you know, with stuff like Law and Order, I guess I think of more serious crimes when I hear the word felony.

Ah. The clip made it sound like he'd spit on a hospital employee, not that it would be any more acceptable.

I'm not 100 percent on it, but I believe assaulting an officer is a felony. Spitting on someone is considered assault, so couple that with the person you spit on being an officer and there's your felony charge.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Before heading out to work I saw that he was charged with assault with a bodily fluid and my imagination ran wild. The scene from Silence of the Lambs immediately came to mind.
Kinda disappointed when I found out he only spat on someone.Last edited by ggsimmonds; 01-03-2017, 02:19 PM.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
It depends on where the crime occurred for the misdemeanor or felony designation. In NC if you assault an officer it's a misdemeanor.
The report clearly says that he spit on a nurse who was trying to evaluate him. I'll bore you guys: every time a person is arrested they are evaluated by a nurse before being admitted to the general population of the jail.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: NFL Off Topic
So Bills GM Doug Whaley says he doesn't know why Rex Ryan got fired as he wasn't apart of the decision. Uhhhhh how exactly do the Bills work? You'd think that'd be something the owner and GM are in lock step on.
If you find yourself wondering what in the world is going on up in Orchard Park, you aren't alone. In fact, the Buffalo Bills general manager may be right there with you.Doug Whaley told reporters at his season-ending press conference Monday that the decision to fire Rex Ryan was made by ownership, and he doesn't know why the move was made, via Mike Rodak of ESPN.The response to a question about whether he was on board with the move didn't exactly do much to clear up the puzzling situation. #Bills GM Doug Whaley said "I haven't even thought about it" if he agreed or disagreed on the Rex Ryan firing. My goodness gracious.— Joe Buscaglia (@JoeBuscaglia) January 2, 2017 NFL organizations can have many different leaderships structures. As Whaley confirmed Monday, via Sal Capaccio of WGR 550, both he and Ryan reported to ownership separately as part of their respective jobs.Opinions on such an arrangement could vary, and head coach dismissals have certainly come straight from ownership in the past, but for the general manager to not even be made aware of the reasoning is particularly odd.Nevertheless, with the team recently confirming that he'll lead the next coaching search, Whaley appears set to return for a fifth season as general manager. He explained as part of Monday's media availability that the reporting structure for the 2017 season will be determined during the interview process.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Rumors are swirling that Redskins QB Kirk Cousins could command as much as $26M / yr and $90M "guaranteed" on the open market, should Washington decide to let him walk.
Begs the question: if you were building a team, would you rather pay top-dollar for Cousins, or something between $15M and $20M per year for Tyrod Taylor (who I assume is also going to be a free agent soon)?
Both finished Top 10 in Total QBR (Cousins: 72.1, Taylor: 68.2), fwiw. There are obviously style differences if you just go by raw numbers beyond that: Cousins nearly completed more passes than Tyrod attempted (and passed for 2000 more yards), while Tyrod basically quintupled Cousins' rushing productivity. Both ultimately scored 25+ total touchdowns on the season.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Cousins puts up big numbers but you get the sense that in big games, he'll make mistakes, like throw picks.
Brees put up great numbers but 15 ints. Someone pointed out that a lot of Brees' numbers came when the Saints were well behind, on the way to losing, so garbage time numbers, kind of like Bortles' number last season.
I don't know if that was the situation with the Redskins but if they were behind in some games, some of Cousin's production may also be from garbage time.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I like Cousins a lot, but he shouldn't be commanding that money. I'm fine with 20-22M, that's just the market. But he shouldn't be setting the bar, that's just ridiculous.
Tag 'em Washington! Keep kicking that can down the road, ha. Can't let him get away but 26M a year is a tough pill to swallow.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: NFL Off Topic
Redskin fans are still split 60/40 on Cousins, ownership & management are clearly not sold on him. The redskins need to throw bodies at defense and address the potential departures at WR. A second Franchise Tag is a serious possibility and would put Kirk right around 15% of the cap, so perfectly doable.
For the long term health of their relationship both sides should probably work out a long term deal.
