    Re: NFL Off Topic

Beating Tom Brady in two Super Bowls will put Eli Manning in the HOF even though he was a solid, but never great QB.

As for GOAT QBs, we had a bit of an extended discussion about this in the NFC divisional thread. For me, it depends on the standard used. There are a few QBs imo who at their peak were better than Brady at his peak (Peyton Manning and Steve Young for me, in that order), but Brady unarguably has had the GOAT football career and it's hard to imagine anyone ever topping him.

I'd take prime Manning over prime Brady if I had to win a game now, but I'd build my franchise around Brady instead of Manning. Peak performance or longevity, opinions may differ.

And who between Rodgers/Mahomes gets a bigger boost in legacy if they win this year?
I don’t think the one SB hurts him as much as the fact that so many other guys from his era have great passing stats.

I can see Eli and Big Ben as HOF. But, will Rivers make the HOF despite just one AFC championship game appearance? I always like Rivers, but it's based on regular season stats.

This is an unfair projection because of Rodgers’ high chances of winning it all this year, but let’s say GB doesn’t the next two years...

Wouldn’t it be a feat in and of itself if I could assure you the talent of Favre and Rodgers at QB for your organization the next thirty years, and tell you you’d only win one Super Bowl that entire time? That’s just such a crazy thought to behold.

They won two Super Bowls in that time, but even if it was just one id sign up for that. I think it depends on who you root for. As a Bears fan I’d gladly sign up for the playoffs nearly every year, a Patriots fan probably wouldn’t see it the same way

Whoops, when typing that out I thought "one each" in my head, but I did mean to type two.

Imho if Eli can and does get in, I can't see why Ben wouldn't.

It takes a great organization to be a dynasty, and that just isn't what the Packers have been over the last 30 years.

Wolf and Holmgren couldn't coexist. That team had a good mix of talent, but that D got old in a hurry. Terrell Davis just ran wild on them in SB XXXII. Most Sundays, I think those Packers would win that game. That loss used to burn me up. I really respect the job Shanahan did with that team now, in hindsight.. and it must be said, that team just could not beat the Cowboys of the early 90s.

Wolfs retirement was a big blow. The Packers committed a gross error giving full control to Mike Sherman. Andy Reid was under the Packers roof, but Wolf let him walk due to his feud with, and similarities to Mike Holmgren. Sherman managed a decent reboot, but those teams were never complete.

I think Ted Thompson was a great talent evaluator, but he picked the wrong coach. McCarthy got whipped in big games far too often. Some of the ugliest post-season losses in history.

I think the legacy of this run is hard for most teams and fans to comprehend. In the early-mid 90s, the Packers played 2 games per season in Milwaukee to stay profitable. They are now one of the single biggest brands in all of sports. No one would have dreamt of that 30 years ago.

                    Nothing separates those 3, IMO.

Flip flop them on those respective teams, I think the results are exactly the same.

I think all 3 will be in the HOF, easily.

Then doesn't that make Phil Simms a HOFr?

His team won 2, in a MUCH tougher era. And he nearly pitched a perfect game in SB XXI (150.9 rating)

That’s great. If Eli got hurt in 2011 and David Carr finished the run, he wouldn’t make it either.

imo Rivers was the best of the three and should easily get in. I don't know if he actually will though because of the zero rings or even SB appearances. He was just unlucky in that he played in a conference dominated by two of the GOATs (Manning, Brady) + really good Steelers teams. His best shot at winning came in his first year starting in 2006 when a stacked Chargers team went 14-2, had HFA, and lost a heartbreaker to the Patriots in the divisional round.

It's the two Super Bowls and the way the two Super Bowls were won: he's the only QB to defeat the Patriots dynasty twice and made memorable plays/throws in the process.
