What kind of dumb policy is this?

What happens next year? They'll just change anyway?

It has, I’m pretty sure that’s the reason Chad Johnson couldn’t get an Ochocinco jersey right away when he changed his name

Yeah that's the standard policy for most sports. That's also why LeBron hasn't been able to switch his number to 6

I'm curious to see how many players are going to switch numbers right away. I would assume that it would be after draft. It would be a slight adjustment being so use to the "traditional" NFL number setup. I could see some teams treating 1-10 as star players. I didn't care for the LB 40s number trend.

I could WRs going more into 1-9. The trend went from 80s to 10s. Looking at the stats, only a couple of the top 30 WRs in yards wore a number in the 80s.

It's always been the rule to keep players from changing numbers often and hurting the merchandising side of the business. Fans also get upset if they spend all that money on a jersey and then the player changes it.

It was a good rule that didn't forbid number changes but made it costly enough that star players didn't do it much. Average players could switch whenever they wanted because no one makes a jersey for them. Most players see the cost to do it and decide not to make the switch.

One thing I would change is if a preferred number is not available when joining the team but comes available later, the player could then switch for free.

He definitely opens himself up to solicitation, his lawyer has already admitted to it. I don't see him being charged with it though unless they really want to stick it to him. He could also try to argue it was after the massage was "technically" over. Either way it would be too hard to prove because no one has a timer timing his 1-2 hour massage session for when he entered and left the building.

They could do like the NBA offers their fans. Either them or AE where if you purchase a jersey and the guy gets traded/signs with another team, you can get your money back.

                    With certain conditions of course.

When it comes to Bron and AD, if it doesn't happen next year, it most likely won't happen. More of a situation where do you want to change after being there for a few years already.

When it comes to NFL, most number changes will happen this year and next. I don't see a College like number tradition like what you see with schools like LSU and Temple. You're not going to see NFL players changing numbers more than once unless someone leaves and they want that number. I can see college players coming in this year and wanting their college number.

Brady is complaining about the number change because it could make distinguishing positions harder, mainly for substitutions. I don't have an issue with that. If it can give defense an advantage, I'm for it. But after a few weeks, coaches and QBs will know who's who, so I don't see it being an issue. It could be a good way to trick an offense early on. If you can have a positionless player on the back 7 with a low number, it can cause mismatches early on. Imagine a defender being subbed in with the Number 18 and you don't have much tape on him, is he a DB or LB. But like I said, if you're studying the tape, you're going to know what number a player has.

Brady is the world's biggest tape freak, I guarantee you he knows what every defender eats for breakfast, let alone what number they are. Tbh I feel like he's joking.

In any event, the mismatch is going to be really obvious anyway. If a hulking 270 lb linebacker is out trying to cover Mike Evans, you'd be able to tell even if he didn't have a number.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.

Yeah if any NFL QB doesn't know the player #s on defense, then they shouldn't be a NFL player

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Florida State linebacker Geno Hayes, 33, has been moved to hospice care at his parents' home in Georgia two years after being diagnosed with liver disease.

Hayes told ESPN before entering the hospital last month that he had been placed on a waiting list for a transplant at the Mayo Clinic and Northwestern Medicine in December after being hospitalized over 20 times in the past year.

                                I get that.

I'm wired to associate numbers to certain positions. It took me a little bit to adjust to WRs having a number in the teens. Now teens are preferred number for WRs. Even when I did careers in Madden, I stuck to traditional numbers. It's going to to be so weird seeing RB and DBs in 1-19, WRs in the 1-9, LBs in the 1-30s. I don't see RBs going in the 80s. It's going to be weird seeing an offense line up with a QB with #10, RB with #5, TE with #7, and few WRs with single digits. Or a defense with a few DBs with single digits, and a LB with the number #22 or #11. You're so accustomed to tradition. #1 is an underused number with QBs. Now you see guys like Tua, Kyler, Cam, Hurts with #1. But, I can see a lot of WRs and CBs wanting #1. Thinking about it, a lot of the starting QBs are in the teens. So, a lot of the single digits can be up for grabs
