Believing that Pickett refused to be the backup on Sunday is ludicrous. Believing anything that Madden (the blowhard radio shock jock) says is the first mistake of the gullible.

So why not be dressed as the emergency? Tomlin said he was healthy.

It would be coaching malpractice not to have an emergency QB available if needed.

Many others beyond Madden have reported it (he didn’t even report it, was just the first to put it out there from one of his sources).

Also using DK as an argument against Madden is equally as ludicrous. Is just as much a blowhard.

FWIW - KP denied it this morning.

DK may be a blowhard, but he's not a shock jock whose only objective is to stir up bull****.

That said, what DK says in that Daily Shot is what's important more than that it's coming from him. What he says is based in reality and is reasonable and plausible. At least a lot more plausible than Kenny Pickett bowing up to Tomlin and refusing to dress and be the number two on Sunday.

To me, it doesn't even really matter. Rudolph is the starter, and that's that. Anything past that is just "journalists" trying to create outrage, imo.

Why no emergency QB last week? That's a fair question and I don't know. That's a question that someone needs to ask Tomlin. Fortunately, it didn't matter.

Personally, I hope Rudolph is re-signed this offseason. I hope Trubisky is cut. I hope there is a legitimate opportunity for Rudolph (as the 1) and Pickett (as the 2) to win the job for next year. Of course, I'm open to a 3rd guy being part of that process if he's capable, but I have my doubts that anyone truly capable will be brought in for 2024.

As for what Pickett says about it, he's never given me a reason to doubt his character (his ability is certainly questionable). Madden, conversely, has no character.

Coming out of the Week 17 win on the road over the Seattle Seahawks, there was some curious speculation regarding second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett being inactive despite stating that he was healthy. Multiple reports surfaced Monday that Pickett refused to be the backup to Mason Rudolph because he was healthy and upset that he wasn’t […]

All fair and I presume my disdain for Dejan is similar to your disdain for Madden. Me bringing DK up probably wasn't relevant as I haven't seen his views (has me blocked, ironically for something not at all sports related).

For the heel he is though, Madden is more often right than he is wrong. He had the Lev Bell story and the AB story before anyone else (amongst many others). Important to note that despite what many listeners think of him, he is generally well respected within the media circles. His sources are often Steelers beat followers, well in the know, who can't write about this stuff for fear of losing coverage.

Important to note, I am actually a big KP fan. While I'm not a Pitt fan, I've been anointed one through marriage since my wife went there, works for Pitt, and thus we buy (very cheap) season tickets every year so I do enjoy rooting for him and and want him to do well.

There are too many things about this story that just don't add up.

Keeping Madden out of it, the very well respected Mark Kaboly was the first to talk about this on Monday morning on the Fan well before Madden ever brought it up.

The crux of it is this:

On Friday before the game, Tomlin declared KP good to go and fully healthy.

Come Sunday, he isn't dressed, not even as the emergency QB.

In Tomlin's Monday media availably, when asked about it. Tomlin said he won't speak for him and he could speak to this during his availability. You and I both know he stands up for his players all the time, even when it isn't warranted at times. That stands out to me as a huge red flag.

Then today, KP, after denying these allegations as you would expect him to, also says if he was healthy he was going to start the game.

Like you said, I've never known him to be anything but a gamer and competitor. It would shock me if what Kaboly said was true but nothing about the above passes the smell test to me.

Oddly enough though, today's depth chart has KP listed as QB1 after he said he was QB2 today. Nothing seems normal.

Here is what Kaboly said today after the KP comments and I'll just leave it at this because I'm not a Steelers fan and just a neutral observer so it's not my prerogative, nor my business to try and persuade you otherwise.

Mark Kaboly in the Athletic: “There are some things you know and some things you can write, and there are some things you know you can’t write.” #Steelers #NFL

Sounds like a bit of truth and maybe a good bit of miscommunication all around. Bad look at the end of a dysfunctional year, and yet they have a pretty solid chance of making the playoffs. It’s the most Steelers thing ever, be “bad” and dysfunctional, still up with a winning record and maybe a playoff spot.

I think it’s ripe for a full rebuild. Pickett is probably not going to be the answer at QB and 2 years were wasted (for both team & player), Tomlin will continue to be the coach he’s been for better & worse, and maybe they can see if they can get some value for these WR’s that talk a lot but don’t produce much. Going in to next year with the same group seems like kicking the can. I don’t see it turning around dramatically.

Much of what you say here is true, but there is no full rebuild coming. The Steelers aren't that far from being highly competitive again.

They need consistency at QB and a new scheme and better play caller, which should be their biggest priority this offseason. They definitely need a new center and could really use another tackle.

There are a couple of areas they need to shore up on the defense (particularly another CB), but overall, it's not a mess.

I think we'll see more adding than we will see subtracting when it comes to the WR group. Again, a competent scheme and play caller will do wonders in this area. The talent is there.

That really ****ing sucks. I love our jerseys and brand identity. It's clean and sharp.

Let's see what kind of comical nonsense we get saddled with.

To each their own, but I've never liked the Texans uniforms. I always thought the Titans taking the Oilers uniforms/logos and stuffing them in the basement was a grievous injustice to fashion.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.

Houston keeping the Oilers branding would have been ideal, but I always thought the Texans uniforms were solid. Hopefully Nike doesn’t mess them up too much.

I trust Nike. It’s been twenty years; time for a refresh of a franchise that lacks the history or legacy to keep the brand identity (i.e., the Packers, Chiefs, Cowboys).

Looking forward to how they implement the Columbia Blue in the main combinations or alternates.

I know that reporter said H-Town Blue (Columbia Blue) won't be replacing the navy blue, but I just don't fully believe him.

I think they'll replace the navy with the Columbia, the new jerseys will be in that blue with a new design, and they go back to white helmets. At least that's what I would like to see.

And don't forget, the NFL told the University of Houston they can't wear their Oilers-inspired throwbacks anymore. Could be in part because Tennessee was wearing them this year, could be in part because NFL Houston is going to something similar to that next season.
