I could see it, but those guys don't get to make those questions in the first place. So he needs to start traditional to get to the press conference, make the comment, then start his podcast and cha-ching!

Eagles demote Sean Desai and promote Matt Patricia to DC. Feels like a pushing the panic button situation. The issue was that they should've promoted Dennard Wilson to DC, but they were so infatuated in running a Fangio defense. They were slated to hire Fangio, but I think the Gannon tampering situation came into play, so they pivoted to someone who ran a version of the Fangio defense. Their secondary definitely feels like it took a step back with loss of Dennard Wilson. Plus when you get 70+ sacks, it's easy to cover up for secondary. That's the issue with their defense, the defense is so reliant on defensive line wrecking havoc, that when it doesn't everywhere else suffers

Especially the timing of it. This isn't the type of move that championship teams make. Technically, Desai is still the DC, but Patricia is the playcaller now. All that means is that they're saying they don't trust Desai to turn it around and feel that Patricia will do a better job of calling Desai's defense. That just means that Eagles will be hiring another DC next year. My issue with the situation is that they were hiring for scheme.

This isn't going to help players tackling or coverage. Slay is out until essentially the playoffs. Ideally if he and Avonte Maddox comes back before playoffs, that should help coverage, but guys need to be able to tackle in space and they can't struggle on team. This defense struggles on third down and should be a way better pass rushing team.

I want to say Patricia was the LB coach and he was one of the last assistants hired and it was somewhat of a controversial hiring because of his past with Darius Slay. You usually see Head Coaches give up playcalling when they're struggling(like Sirrani did year 1) or Coordinators give up playcalling to head coaches. But, it has to be very awkward to give up playcalling of your own system to guy lower on the totem pole that use to be a HC and DC.

Exactly. It is a very awkward situation. They do weekly press conferences with coordinators. I wonder if they are going to make him still do the pressers. That would be very awkward to have to comment on the defense when you're not calling plays anymore.

What makes it more questionable is that the schedules lightens up drastically. They play the Seahawks(who might not have Geno Smith), Giants twice, and Arizona. So, I don't see why you dont just stick it through the rest of season with Desai. There's no real win in this situation. If the defense "improves", it'll get discredited because the last games aren't as difficult. If doesn't improve or get worse, it signals that you have to make drastic changes. This feels like a trial period for Patricia for next year for DC. That's the only thing that makes sense.
