Am I alone in thinking Shannahan (sp?) is overrated as a coach? Especially as the Redskins coach. He's still living off his success with Elway. Outside of some blimps with Plummer, he hasn't done anything in a while.

Shannahan would make a 5 star offensive coordinator.

People are quick to forget how good Redskins' offense was last year, Shannahan masterfully used RG and Morris to their strenghts and the team was really fun to watch.

This year is just a train wreck.

I wouldn't disregard Shannahan's success at the running game out in Denver. Seemed like no matter where they drafted RB's, they produced 1000 yds rushers.

I have no clue what the issues are with the Redskins. I would think Redskins fans would know more than what I know.

Fair points to both, but what does it have to do with him as a head coach. If these are your points then you guys should like Killa's post above.

I don't think that's unique though is it?

Most if not all head coaches came from being a offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator, it's not a stretch to say that all head coaches that haven't had success would be a 5 star coordinator if they went back to their position of choice.

Example: Wade Phillips has always been considered a good defensive coordinator. Head Coach? Not so much.

People aren't beating down the door to hire him as a head coach either. Didn't the Cowboys catch crap for hiring him to?

Shannahan is talked about as a must hire in some instances.

Something about Shannahan just bugs me. I don't really have any basis behind why I feel that way, it just seems to me in his relationships with his players and staff His motto goes something like "I'm a past Super Bowl winning Coach so it's my way, or the high way" type of guys.

I wasn't using him as a comparative to Shannahan or someone who was being recruited.

I was just saying that all head coaches regardless of success as a head coach would be a 5 star coordinator at their specific strength because in most cases, they already were.

It can work in reverse fashion as well.

Mike McCarthy was never considered as a good or great OC, but has become successful as HC. I recall people on here bashing McCarthy as the hire because he didn't fare well as OC.

Because losing who could be the best TE in football isn't a big deal right, right? But we get all the calls, so expressing any feeling about that isn't allowed without being confronted by the usual suspects.

Be that as it may, I still don't see what that has to do with him being hyped as this great head coach. That's all I'm saying lol.

                                I stand corrected good sir!

I still maintain that blame should be spread to everyone Shanahan, RGIII and Snyder. I put more blame on Snyder because it seems he's let RGIII have undue influence in certain areas.

IIRC while he didn't invent it he really popularized the zone blocking techniques which spread like wildfire throughout the NFL for a while there. I'm actually very intrigued to go through the '97 and '98 Broncos seasons but at the rate i'm going I won't get to them for another 6 years LOL!
