    Re: NFL Off Topic

    A Kellen Winslow Jr. Sighting:

On Tuesday, Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie played the role of reporter and asked teammate Dee Milliner some questions after the team’s minicamp practice.
The questions weren’t exactly softballs for Milliner, who is recovering from a torn Achilles and trying to get his career back on track after struggling to make a positive impression in his first two seasons.
“Do you feel confident going into the season? There’s a lot of talk saying you’re on the roster bubble, [that] you’re here to make the team,” Cromartie asked, via Metro New York. “Do you feel and have the confidence that you and in your ability that you can do the things you’re supposed to do?”
Milliner handled it well enough, but one of Cromartie’s former Jets teammates didn’t take too kindly to the line of questioning. Kellen Winslow Jr. took to Twitter to air his complaints.
“Cromartie is one of the biggest posers I have ever seen and played against. Prolly the last guy I would take down an alley with me. Worry about yourself Cro. Stop talkin. Your not even close to the best. You got bad feet and are scared to jam. Just speaking my mind this morning. Anybody who talks to their teammates like that … Can’t respect em,” Winslow wrote in a series of tweets.
Cromartie replied with a couple of well-placed slams of his own.
“You wish you were as good as your dad,” Cromartie wrote. “Have you been to Target lately?”
In the event you’ve forgotten, the reference is related to Winslow’s arrest in a parking lot outside a Target in 2013 for synthetic marijuana possession. Police were responding to a call from a woman who reported seeing Winslow with his pants down while pleasuring himself and found two jars of Vaseline in the car.
Winslow responded to Cromartie by saying that the two of them should get in the ring before promising to “whoop that ***.” We’re not sure if the fight will ever take place, but Boston Market would be an obvious sponsor for the event if it should ever take place.

Daaaaaamn at Cromartie's retort. Had me on the floor.

Winslow shoulda came at his transcontinental collection of baby mom's... I'll remember Cro long after he's done for that fact.

Funny how they reunited Revis and Cromartie after a couple years away. Millner may have a chance to pan out with the talent ahead of him... if he makes the team.

I wouldn't mess with Winslow, though. Seems intense, in a crazy way.

The Colts are raising a "2014 AFC Finalist" banner next season.

Which isn't really a story because they've done it for every season they played in the AFC Championship and lost, but...you know...Deflategate. And I first saw the story on NESN, so there's that also.

Winslow trying to get the last word:

Winslow and Cromartie had a Twitter spat yesterday, and although Cromartie has been told to knock it off, Winslow isn’t letting it die. He’s just making it personal.

Referencing the fact that Cromartie reportedly has 12 children by eight women and appeared to struggle to remember all his children’s names on an episode of Hard Knocks, Winslow came up with this put-down:

@CRO31 U wish you were a Dad. Learn your kids names.

Winslow has also been using Twitter to challenge Cromartie to step into the ring for an honest-to-goodness fight. So far, Cromartie has resisted taking the bait.

I just think that when you get caught jerkin it in a target parking lot its probably best to lay low for a bit.

Thinking about the naming conventions of quarterback, fullback and halfback:

Quarterback makes sense in the traditional sense that he is a quarter of the way "back" of the line. You'd think that the halfback would be halfway back, and the fullback would be the farthest back of the three, but those two are switched. Doesn't make any sense.

You think that's weird? In Canada, the halfback is a defensive position.

You're thinking of the I-formation. It wasn't around (or, at least prominent) when those names came to be, afaik. I'm thinking the names were based off of the Pro Formation.

It's a holdover from the early days of football before the I-formation became common. Most teams ran the T-Formation (aka Full House) back then. So the two running backs lined up side by side were halfbacks while the fullback was the farthest back.

But now halfbacks are also called tailbacks because of the switch to the I.
