Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
Play that **** on that Monday and be done with it. I'm tired of the NFL throwing it's weight around against the other leagues and everybody falling all over themselves for the bully NFL. How long has the NFL schedule been done? Was it in time to see MLB's schedule? If baseball's schedule was done first then they get to stay. Why help the NFL cause I'm almost positive they wouldn't help if the roles were reversed.Comment

The Ravens will play their game as scheduled on Thursday night. You can take that to the bank. As powerful as the NFL is, Goodell is extending a courtesy by even trying to work it out. The Orioles will just have to adjust because, frankly, no one cares except the 9 people in Baltimore who'd rather watch a random Orioles game than the season opener of the hometown Super Bowl Champions.NFL - Vikings

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
1. From a team's brand marketing perspective having a night game spotlight, only game on the schedule and first real game of the season is enormous.
2. Every team has to play a Thursday game. Only the 2 teams that play in the opener get to play one without having to deal with a short week. 16 game season, that's a pretty significant advantage that only the SB winner and their lucky opponent get each year.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
It creates the same problem. That series is a four game set that runs Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Which is why I say just play it that Monday instead. Start the season two days earlier on Monday September 2nd as the Orioles are on the road. Problem solved. Hell they played last year's season opener on Wednesday. Playing on a holiday is no concern of the NFL's. I'm not Jewish, but doesn't Rosh Hashanah run from September 4th thru the 6th? A day AFTER the date in question?Comment

1. The Orioles (alone) can't just "adjust". The players union has to sign off on any time change of more than 30 mins in either direction. Without even getting to anything else, it's already out of the Orioles hands.
2. Both teams are playing away games at night the day before. They will both be getting into Baltimore at probably around 2am... an afternoon game isn't out of the question, but is asking a lot for nothing in return. If we start talking about moving the time of their games the night before then it's an MLB issue as well as a players union issue.
3. The Orioles and Ravens share a parking lot. So even the thought of just let the two teams play at the same time would be a traffic nightmare and probably literally impossible to accommodate everyone with paid spots for each team's events.
Honestly, I can't imagine this working out so I'm trying not to think too much about it. Other than playing on Wed (really shouldn't be a big deal) or playing on the road (not as big but still a huge issue marketing-wise for the SB champs) I don't know what they can get done.Comment

In his defense, what benefit is it to him to rearrange 3 games for the Ravens? Not even the NFL but the Ravens.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
MLB could easily move the game to the afternoon. It wouldn't be THAT big of an inconvenience for either team. Chicago is coming in from Cleveland so I see no issue with playing in the afternoon.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
This is extremely false too. It's actually pissing me off that anyone outside of the local market are acting like it's this simple (that's not directed at you, btw. the members of the media should know better).

Fair enough. I wasn't aware of 1 & 2. I still say the NFL gets its way though.NFL - Vikings

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012
The other than in your post is a HUGE deal. To simplify these are the two biggest reasons imo.
1. From a team's brand marketing perspective having a night game spotlight, only game on the schedule and first real game of the season is enormous.
2. Every team has to play a Thursday game. Only the 2 teams that play in the opener get to play one without having to deal with a short week. 16 game season, that's a pretty significant advantage that only the SB winner and their lucky opponent get each year.
I'm sure plenty of people do, until you get those Mondays(like we did this year)where the game(s) are trash and then you get people complaining about "how the games are horrible" especially since more than likely one of the games are probably going to be trash.#RespectTheCultureComment
