It's not an NFL sponsored event, that's why.

lol, I have no idea what the problem would be with it. Unless sponsors are using NFL IP advertising the event or something I don't see what the NFL can really do. That'd draw a bit more than harassment though.

Edit: Ah, it's part of discovery from last years convention, since this one was rescheduled and they produced a sponsor list for it they can try and drum up their own potential liability in the lawsuit pending against them by using the discovery process, is the theory - http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...sing-sponsors/

The event last year was cancelled because the NFL told the NFLPA that players participating at the event may be violating NFL policy.

"Players and NFL personnel may not participate in promotional activities or other appearances at or in connection with events that are held at or sponsored by casinos,"

Which is iffy at best, laughable at worst since there's no gambling at the Sands Convention Center.

tl;dr, NFL being sued for event last year, so they're going to make it expensive for everyone involved because they can IMO. Doesn't seem to have much to do w/ the event this year.

Don't think anyone here with have anything but speculation as to the actual reason behind it. I mean the NFL got draft kings and those things shut down essentially so it's not surprising they would throw the nix on this.

Hadn't considered that it might be best for the NFL if the second team in LA goes unfilled as a point of leverage for all future stadium deals.

            via the RJ today: http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/...-stadium-drive
In a perfect-world scenario for the NFL, the Chargers get a new stadium, the second spot in Los Angeles remains vacant as a symbol of stadium leverage for other franchises, and the Raiders eventually figure out a solution in Oakland by using Las Vegas as bargaining leverage.

“If the Chargers get a stadium, that would open up Los Angeles for the Raiders,” said Vincent Bonsignore, a Los Angeles Daily News columnist who has covered the city’s 20-year hunt to bag an NFL franchise again. “But if all the dominoes fall for Las Vegas, I think the Raiders would jump on that and there would be no waiting game. I think Las Vegas would be their first choice.”

Bonsignore said well-placed league sources have indicated Kroenke, Spanos, Dallas owner Jerry Jones and Houston owner Bob McNair would be likely to vote in favor of the Raiders’ relocation to Las Vegas and sway other owners as well. Kroenke prefers to own the Los Angeles market, and Spanos wants it to remain an option for the Chargers. Jones and McNair prefer to keep the Raiders away from San Antonio.

“I do think it could get approved in Las Vegas,” Bonsignore said. “I believe they will have some powerful people get behind it. Keeping that second spot open in L.A. is pretty important. When you start playing connect-the-dots, it makes sense for some people other than Mark Davis.”

An important Vegas stadium funding meeting is going on now, Mark Davis is expected to speak later but isn't there currently.

Man I just can't imagine what it would be like to have a hometown team leave. Im from VA and we don't have any teams so I don't have that worry, but just what do you do? It's gotta suck, if im from St. louis, im not going to follow the Rams to LA, now you're just out of it. Just sucks.

Yeah I can't empathize at all aside from the Gladiators leaving abruptly to Cleveland (but that was AFL and nobody cared outside of the lies/shenanigans), but at least w/ the California teams it's a regional move compared to what the Rams did.

He doesn't sound at all like Jeff Daniels from Dumb and Dumber, as I expected he would.

If funding and approvals are received, Raiders will contribute $500m to the Stadium effort in Las Vegas and turn the Silver State into the Silver and Black State.

I believe it. They probably make a load of cash when the Steelers visit too.

I don't think the NFL had much to do with it. Hell, as far as I know Kraft (and maybe Jerry?) are still investors. All of that stuff involving Draft Kings and FanDuel was political if I'm not mistaken.

EA reportedly confirmed they were asked to drop their sponsorship by the NFL,after they and another sponsor did within 15 minutes of each other.
