He covers the NFL for ESPN (regularly on NFL Insiders), and lives in San Diego.

Thanks, welp here's hoping the people in Oakland can save their team. The Chargers were pretty much destined to go back to LA.

Well this is more than simply knowing the rules though and I'm sure you know that.

As I said in the game thread, I didn't like the tactic. I do think it violates the spirit of the game. I don't particularly care if they change the rules though.

Very sad. I remember the the punt he blocked against Dallas in 2011, McKnight was a great special teamer.

Ahh those good ol' "Unwritten Rules" nonsense that people love to complain about even though no rule is being broken.

I see/hear that mess in Baseball and it's just as annoying.

So you guys have no problem with madden cheesers and glitch exploiters then right? They shouldn't get scrutinized for knowing the game mechanics.

                    1. I don't play Madden.
                    2. I think we tend to forget that it's a damn video game. If you paid money, then play it however the hell you want.

Last time I checked, glitches were not something that were intentionally implemented into a game.. You are essentially praising people for foul play.

Anyway, that's a video game and can be discussed in the Madden section. With football, most of the time it's either a loophole or how coaches like to say "That's how we perceive the rule".

Edit: Update on the Joe McKnight situation -

"At approximately 2:43 p.m. today we received a call of a shooting that occurred here at Holmes [Boulevard] and Behrman Highway (in Terrytown)," Normand said. "Our officers arrived on the scene and immediately began giving CPR to an individual who was shot and lying on the ground, with EMS and others assisting at this location.

Ronald Gasser, 54, the suspected shooter, stayed on the scene and surrendered his weapon to authorities. He was then taken into custody and questioned."
What the hell goes through these people's head? You shoot a man multiple times in broad daylight and take his life, and then come quietly and give yourself up just like that?

It's just like they know what the outcome will be and simply don't care...

That's assuming this wasn't in self defense. Another reason could be that after the immediate anger that comes to people's heads, they cannot think straight and come back to reality when the source of the anger has been dealt with. Some even feel enough remorse to turn themselves in because of the sudden drop in chemicals and reactions in their body.

I can only assume it's the latter going by the details so far. It's hard for me to figure out how someone like that can react in such a way but we're all very different people I guess.

It's always difficult for me to wrap my head around something like this, given gun control isn't such an issue over here. Pretty scary just thinking anyone can have a gun and use it in anger.

The loophole the Ravens used was not intentionally implemented either. I don't know how you guys don't see the parallel on this. The Ravens used a loophole to commit a penalty not only without receiving punishment but being rewarded instead. I'm not praising anyone for foul play. I am criticizing the Ravens for doing what I perceive to be foul play.

                            1. Forgive me if I assumed the majority present play Madden.

                            2. And professional football is just a damn sport, yet here we are discussing it. I did not imply that Madden was of a level of importance that you seem to think I did. People can play videogames however they want. The Ravens can use whatever legal strategies they want. Doesn't mean they criticism is off limits

You asked a general question and I gave my own answer for it. You just used a horrible example in this case so no I didn't imply anything.

But as long as no actual rules are being broke in this instance, I see no issue here.

Why you're so pissy about it, I have no idea why. But as long as no actual rules are being broke in this instance, I see no issue here.

I don't think I am being pissy about it. If I come off that way my bad.

I don't think it was a horrible example, and saying it is a horrible example will not convince me it was. Cheesers use game mechanics in unintended ways to exploit the game to their benefit. The Ravens used a loophole to exploit the rulebook in their favor. I think it is fairly straightforward.

How is stating that it is just a damn videogame not implying that I am putting undue importance on it?
