Agree that this will be an uphill battle for Revis, probably settle early in the process if given the opportunity.

Update to this: Charges against Revis were dropped, per PFT.

Former Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is in Pittsburgh for a court hearing on Wednesday related to the four felony charges he faces as a result of an altercation on a Pittsburgh street last month.

He no longer faces them. Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Media reports that a judge has dismissed all of the charges against Revis. The testimony of Revis’ friend Rashawn Bolton appears to have led to the decision.

Revis objected to being filmed with a phone by one of the two men who wound up unconscious after being punched in the face. Neither they nor a witness identified Revis as the man who punched them as there was another unidentified man on the scene.

At Wednesday’s court hearing, Bolton identified himself as both that person and the person who threw the punches. Kinkhabwala reports that Bolton said that he pulled the two men off of Revis and then punched them. He also said his voice is the one heard in a video showing the two men knocked out while someone takes credit for doing it on the soundtrack.

Revis is a free agent after being released by the Jets. Any team that was worried about his availability due to ongoing legal trouble no longer has that as a concern, although it remains unknown what kind of market exists for Revis.

Raiders reportedly planning a press conference in Vegas week after next following a relocation vote at the owner's meeting. If they don't have the votes (it's expected they do) there won't be a vote, or it could be pushed to May.

Lease agreement still being worked out with the Vegas stadium authority, but is not expected to be a reason to hold up the vote based on what's remaining to be worked out.

Stadium wouldn't break ground until 2018 and would open in 2020.

More reason for me not to watch that show. At least he'll fill the void left by Mike Ditka.

If by "training and eating right" you mean "not training and not eating right" then you are correct.

That was last off-season. I think after he got hurt, he gained it all back.

In addition to losing strength in my left hand – which makes opening a pack of sugar or buttoning my shirt impossible – I have now experienced weakness in my right hand, abs, lower back and right leg. I can’t run, play golf or walk any distances. Picking up anything over 30 pounds is a chore. The one piece of good news is that the disease seems to be progressing more slowly than in some patients.

Ugh, terrible news. He was a dependable receiver and indeed a bit of an underrated player during the early years of the Niners dynasty. At least he'll always be remembered for "The Catch".

NFL Player Investigations can begin simply based on a complaint, even if the Police aren't involved

When the NFL decided in the aftermath of the Ray Rice case to disregard the machinations of the criminal justice system in lieu of its own investigations, the league expanded its reach over all players considerably. The NFL Players Association has now warned player agents of the manner in which the league’s powers could be manifested.

Via the Association Press, the union distributed a memo last week to all agents advising them of a “new world of NFL player investigations.”

These investigations can arise not only from a player being arrested or charged, but also from an alleged victim making a complaint about a player directly to the league.

“The NFL has initiated numerous investigations based merely upon phone calls by alleged victims to the NFL,” the memo explains. “It appears that many people are now aware that they can directly call the NFL to levy allegations against players.” (And now even more are aware of that.)

The league denies that there has been a “sea change in the investigative process” since former D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier arrived as the league’s head of security. The truth, however, is that the sea change happened after the NFL’s mishandling of the Rice situation nearly triggered a Commissioner change. That’s when the league decided to no longer defer to the authorities and to conduct their own investigations — regardless of whether a player ever faces criminal jeopardy.

Apparently, this includes investigating misconduct about which the authorities aren’t even aware. Which opens another can of worms, if the league decides not to share what it knows with law enforcement.

The report from the AP makes a big deal of the fact that “social media, texts and emails” will be part of the league’s investigations. It’s almost as if the AP has entirely forgotten the incident known commonly throughout the media as #DeflateGate.

Of course those things could be pertinent to any investigation conducted by the league. The real news is that the league apparently has been and will continue to start investigations based simply on a complaint made directly to the NFL, regardless of whether the alleged victim ever reported the situation to police.

This gives rise to the real possibility of false or exaggerated claims being made to the league. It also enhances the likelihood that players will be the targets of extortion, with a demand for money being made to keep a complaint from being lodged with the league.
