Bills have acquired CB E.J. Gaines and Rams 2018 second round pick for WR Sammy Watkins and Bills 2018 sixth round pick.
I like the trade for the Eagles. Jordan one of my favorite guys and was excited to see him in the slot exclusively, but Nelson and Hollins have been performing really well in camp and we address that huge hole in the secondary. Hopefully Darby goes back to his rookie form and provides us a solid starting corner.

I like it for Buffalo. 2 picks in each of the first 3 rounds of the draft now, and they replace an injury prone (but far better talent) WR with a solid one that they can observe for a year before making a decision on him and replace a corner that I imagine they didn't view as a great fit with another guy that showed promise as a rookie before disappointing after that.

The Bills can use this draft capital to move up for a franchise QB, or potentially even get one with their own pick without moving up and then use the rest of their picks to build some much-needed depth.

I like the trade as well. Eagles were not going to pay him and Nelson, Johnson, Hollins have done well this camp. He came expendable. If Eagles keep 6, they will have a camp battle for the last spot. As it is now, top 5 is: Jeffery, Smith, Nelson, Hollins, and Johnson. 6th spot is up for grabs. Gibson has under performed so far, Treggs has been ok, haven't heard much from Turner, there has been a buzz from Ward. I want the last spot to be Ward, but maybe Gibson.

Eagles desperately needed a starting quality CB and got one in Darby. If he can get back to the 2015 version, great trade. They still need another one. Tramaine Brock(with 49ers last year) had a good year but I think has some DMV problems. Another starting quality CB will allow them to be patient with Jones and maybe just red shirt him. Also allow them to not rush Douglas into starting job. I know Kendricks wants to be traded and Kelce is still on the trade block, so they still have some trading chips.
Also they are still probably waiting for Matthews to get healthy before they can release him

Definitely a great move for the future. And to be honest, we got decent players back. I don't think the drop off from Watkins to Mathews is as steep as some people may think. Besides, people clown us for moving up to get Watkins when there were great WR's on the board, then criticize us when we move him for one of those guys we skipped over who has outperformed Watkins over his career. Mathews actually has remarkable numbers, though if you watch the Eagles you know he's had struggles.

I still think Watkins is due to break out in a suitable offense and healthy, but some times those things never happen and they didn't in 3 seasons in Buffalo. He was probably gonna bolt after this year, especially if he had a big year.

I totally understand the reasoning behind the moves, and we stockpiled great draft assets and still got back some talent, but this close to Week 1 we've seemed to pivot from challenging for a playoff spot to looking like we're gearing up for a 2019 or so arrival.

              Re: 2017 Transaction Thread

This is one of the few deals where a team is looking to the future but also gets something for the present. Matthews will get a chance to be a #1 receiver but if it doesn't work out I don't see McDermott being the type to keep pushing a square peg in a round hole and will probably end up putting someone else as a main target. Mathews should fit the scheme that i'm starting to see offensively from this team. It's not going to be a deep passing team but more of a rhythm uptempo philosophy which Matthews has played in with Philly.

I don't know much about Gaines but considering the defensive philosophy the Rams have operated under then he should be a tough nosed guy who is willing to play up to the edge of acceptability. He'll add some grit in the secondary.

The draft picks are the important thing though, they could be used for trades or they can keep em and continue to build through the draft. Sammy's a popular guy in Buffalo so this is going to sting a bit but considering his health woes seemingly every season it's remarkable that we got what we did. This was an astute move by the front office.

I had to Google EJ Gaines. Darby played poorly last year but man, this seems like giving up on 2017. No playoffs since 1999.

The Pats haven't had one since Moss left. There's a lot more to winning than a true outside receiver.

                            Pretty big news.

Do we want him? Mathews and Woodhead back together again?

I see they just signed Zuttah too, so I guess Mangold probably isn't happening.

Mathews interests me somewhat, but he's so injury prone.

Baltimore isn't a bad spot for an injury prone back though. Dixon will be back in 4 weeks. I think West is what he is... I'd prefer that being a comfortable replacement if someone ahead of him (like Mathews) got hurt. I'd let Rainey and Allen battle it out for the other spot, as both can be serviceable fill ins in the same situation.

No idea what he'd cost though.
