Would love to see a package deal of Jim Harbaugh and Andrew Luck. I've read reports, not sure how legit they are, that the team isn't sold on Clausen.

I would sure hope that the team isn't sold on Clausen or Moore or anyone else we have at QB. That position is a huge area of need and we have a chance to get the top college QB. We'll see how it plays out.

Luck is staying at Stanford. Hopefully the Panthers will trade out of the top spot and pick up more picks.... and blow next season to try to get Luck again (half kidding)

This opens the door for them to take any number of players if they do stay at the top though. Da'Quan Bowers and A.J. Green come to mind first, but who knows what they'll do

If Luck is staying, there is no player worth the #1 pick. You don't take a WR #1 overall (Green), and unless Bowers is Julius Peppers or Mario Williams, then you have to pass. It's gonna be hard to trade out of the spot IMO.

Yeah Bowers has looked great this year, but he was underwhelming his first 2 years. I don't know if it was completely from the motivation of his father's death, or if he turned a corner, but I don't know if you risk taking him #1. Dareus might be an option as well for the D-Line, and I agree that you can't justify taking a WR with the first pick and trading out of the top spot is unlikely. I just hope that another QB (Locker or Newton most likely) and another team trades up to take them with the 1st pick

Mario Williams was not worth the #1 pick.

Carolina can be creative and package Smith and the #1 for a later 1st rounder, couple of 2nd/3rds and future 1sts. Bottom line, offense needs an overhaul. Also, we need a good DT and FS/SS.

                  My take:

Bowers- Likely the BPA. But he isn't SO dominant that you take him with the number 1 pick regardless (think Suh). We could use another pass rusher, but they're more pressing needs.

Fairley- Probably the best player/need combo for the Panthers. On the best teams we've ever had, our best player was Kris Jenkins (he was probably one of the best, if not THE best player in the NFL in his prime)....impossible to tell if he will be the all-pro talent that Jenkins was in his prime though and with so many question marks on offense, you can't afford to miss on him.

Green- Depending on his pro day/combine, he should be the pick. Instantly fills the biggest need on the Panthers (lack of quality receivers). Is he THAT good to be taken #1....I think his college career makes him borderline and a good combine could push him over the top.

                    He wasn't?

Unless you're looking for an automatic HOFer with that pick (which he still may end up being) I'm not sure why you don't think so.

How is he not? Outside of a slow start his rookie year he's played at a high level, and you also have to compare him to the others that came out that year. Either way, don't really see why he isn't worthy. Not trying to call you out but you didn't really give a reason. I'm just trying to understand your standards. Is it that the #1 pick should end up in the HOF (again, something that's not completely out of the question at this point)? Are you pinning the entire Houston D on him (meaning they suck so therefore he's not that good)?

Just haven't really heard anyone complain about the pick since his rookie year... in fact most have looked back and said it was the right pick based on what he's done in the league.

Good post. I don't watch College Football very much, so that was helpful to me.

I just can't wrap my head around drafting a DT #1 OVR not named Ndamakong Suh.

I also can't get a good feeling about Green. Is he a diva WR? Can he be a legit #1 WR? I loved his college highlights, but man, I got a lot of questions.

I'm scared that Bowers might get drafted after 1 year of solid college production. I like Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy for Carolina at DE too.

Right now, if I'm Carolina, I try to package the #1 pick with an attractive player on the current roster to move down a few spots and pick up some extra 3rd rd picks+ . Maybe a team who does see one of Bowers, Fairley, or Green as a must have, cant miss prospect.

Of course maybe after the combine and SR Bowl, maybe Nakamura or one of the other major names will step up above the crowd and look like a legit #1 pick.

AJ seems to be the real deal, I wouldn't be disappointed at all to draft him top #10. Not #1 but definitely top 10.

I don't like Bowers, Fairley...if we take a QB I'd rather have Mallett. He would've beaten OSU in the Sugar Bowl if his receivers could catch.
