    Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread

I'm really surprised to see the Panthers draft Kealoha Pilares. I know they want a nice slot to try replace Steve Smith since he's gone soon...but Pilares? I'm from Hawai'i and I know how he's been. Wasn't too great of a player until this past season, and even still, he got injured twice...both in the biggest games of the season.

But it's no doubt that he was some speed. We'll see how it goes, but I really don't see him lasting long.

So I'll be cheering for him to succeed just to prove alot of the doubters wrong. It will really be sweet if do it year one but I can't put no money on that because of how poor of an offense he's gotta work with.
On the contrary, I think Newton has a *chance* to have a very capable offense around him. The OL, when they are healthy, are one of the best in football with LT Jordan Gross, Pro Bowl C Ryan Kalil, LG Travelle Wharton, and RT Jeff Otah (who missed all of 2010). The RB situation could be up in the air depending of DeAngelo Williams contract, but we still have 1000 yd rusher Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson on the roster. Jeremy Shockey was signed at TE too.

The WRs are suspect, especially if we have to trade Smitty. But LaFell will be in his 2nd year, Gettis will be in his 2nd year, Pilares is coming in, and they have some other guys with potential like Armanti Edwards, Wallace Wright, David Clowney, and Jason Cherry.

Defensively the team is solid at LB (if Thomas Davis can come back healthy) and in the secondary. We tried to address the DT in the draft and we have some exciting players at DE w/ Charles Johnson, Everette Brown, and Greg Hardy.

I really think Cam has a chance to see this team to a 7-9 or 8-8 record this season if we can stay mostly healthy. The Panthers were absolutely decimated by injuries in 2010.

I agree with things you said about Cam Newton & nit-picking to the point of being downright ridiculous. But, I'm going to wait & see if he's worth every penny. I can't still believe that critics are saying that Panthers defense were bad & it's flat-out bogus. Memo to critics: it's hard to play tough defense & ask them to bail the offense out when they're downright pathetic last year. They're ranked last in almost every offensive category & it's really hard for me to look at those pitiful stats.

Yea I should have clarified it more. Everything around him is pretty good(especially the O-line and RBs) except for the WRs.. I definitely think the Defense has alot of talent out there especially if Thomas Davis comes back ready to go. We'll see. It will be good if they can land a decent WR when free agency opens up if they let Smith go.

I personally think he will be. He just seems like he has that it factor about him. If he works hard and takes his job serious(like I think he will) I believe he will be successful..

Just a heads up man. No sig pictures here. Might want to remove it soon, or you may get the banhammer.

Yep he should take the money and wear his old high school and college number(7). haha! I wonder why Clausen didn't wear that number last year anyway since he's been wearing it his whole life. Someone must of had it I guess. But it would look bad if he just gave up his number to Cam like that.. We'll see what happens..

John Kasay, the only original Carolina Panther still on the team, wears number 7. I'd be willing to bet that once he retires his number will eventually be retired as well.

I think if the Panthers are unable to resign Deangelo Williams they should sign Willis Mcgahee.
