    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

Looking at it from Marshall's perspective, I think he doesn't have faith in Orton and/or the direction of the new offense. I think he sees his numbers plummeting and wants to get paid on past performance before the "new" stats are on the table when he's looking for a new contract.

I personally hate players trying to get out of contracts early, think this sets a bad light for other teammates and towards the new coach, and (of course) is at a horrible time with everything else going on with him, but that's my guess as to why it's happening.

Looks like I was right about Woodyard and his weight for last season. He says he doesn't feel different with the weight, hopefully he has the same speed.

ENGLEWOOD -- Wesley Woodyard had his moments as an undersized rookie linebacker for the Denver Broncos last year. As a bigger player, he expects to contribute even more in his second season in the league.

"I played last year at 218 pounds and right now I am 230," Woodyard said. "I worked on my lower body in the offseason to pick up some weight so I will be ready for everything because I added a few more pounds."

Woodyard wasn't bad when he carried less weight.

During five starts as a weak side linebacker, Woodyard recorded 50 tackles as Denver improved to 8-5 and got within reach of clinching a playoff berth.

Marshall won't be suspended apparently, very lucky guy. Now he needs to just figure out the "Walk Away" solution when he's getting fired up over a girl.

You may have heard that the Broncos traded Tony Scheffler's best friend on the team. Guy name of Jay Cutler.
Of course, before the trade heard 'round the Rockies was consummated, there were the obligatory trade rumors. And in the aftermath of the deal, Scheffler heard his name being tossed around. So it was that Scheffler recently had an air-clearing meeting with new coach Josh McDaniels.
"It's definitely something we sat down and talked about," Scheffler said. "Nothing happened. It's in the past. In this league, you've got to move forward to the next day and keep moving or you'll get left behind. I'm on board with Josh. It's been a lot of fun." Said McDaniels: "I'm sure there were quite a few players who had relationships with Jay, and they've done a great job of saying: 'You know what? This is our team now, and these are our quarterbacks.' He's working his butt off to getter better with each one of them. He's making a good impression on them, and I hope they're making a good impression on him."
This is good for morale. This is all well and good only if Scheffler can actually stay healthy.

Cutler should take down notes, Scheffler is going about it the right way. Like you said, hopefully he can play a full season without having an injury.

Tony Dungy's view on Cutler and the trade.

                http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4230086

Tony Dungy isn't sure Jay Cutler is the answer for the Chicago Bears -- not yet, at least.

The former Indianapolis Colts coach, now a studio football analyst for NBC, on Wednesday questioned whether Cutler had the leadership and maturity to take the Bears to the next level.

Dungy said the Bears gambled when they dealt starter Kyle Orton to the Denver Broncos for Cutler, who had a very messy, public divorce with the Broncos and new coach Josh McDaniel.

"[The Bears] took a risk [trading for Cutler]. I think they took that risk specifically with beating the Green Bay Packers in mind," Dungy said Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. "I really think Chicago gave up a lot to get a quarterback who they believe is going to be the final piece of the puzzle. But I am not sure he has won enough to merit that yet."

Dungy said he recalled that when Bears coach Lovie Smith was hired, he focused on beating the Packers in one of the NFL's oldest and fiercest rivalries.

"[They got] Cutler because of Green Bay's defense and all of the press and man coverage," Dungy said, according to the Tribune. "[The Bears] have to have that threat."

But does Cutler have the maturity to go along with the big arm?

"That remains to be seen. He is a very talented guy who can throw the ball very well. But quarterbacking is so much about leadership and so much about doing things under pressure. There is going to be a lot of pressure on him," Dungy said, according to the Tribune.

"We'll see about his maturity level. That's what I would question. And some of the things that happened leading to him leaving Denver ... that would concern me as a head coach," Dungy added, according to the report. "He can make all of the throws, but quarterbacking is much more than just making throws."

I can read between the lines, "What in the heck would you give up that much for a quarterback that hasn't proven that he is capable of leading a team to the next level?" Again, we shall see.

Geez, there must be something in the water in Denver...

Denver Broncos Pro Bowl center Casey Wiegmann is participating in offseason practices and workouts, but he expressed frustration that he has not been given a contract extension and indicated he might re-evaluate his future if he doesn't get a contract extension before training camp.

Wiegmann, who will turn 36 on July 20, considered retirement in the offseason. He decided to come back with one year left on his current contract, which he said wasn't an easy decision with new coach Josh McDaniels coming in with a new offensive system to learn. Wiegmann said if Mike Shanahan had remained coach, he believes he would have had a contract extension a week after last season was finished.

The "If Shanahan was here" mentality needs to go.. it's not going to help any player at all, get used to having a new coach and system. Getting tired of these guys bitching and moaning- atleast Marshall was smart enough to not air it out.

Watched the Jets vs Broncos last night, had a few memories brought up with Cutler and his "what the hell were you thinking" throws.

Hopefully Marshall isn't another weed that needs to be plucked. The Broncos are looking for good players not pre-Madonnas.

Wow, if that is what Dungy is suggesting, then how do the Colts justify bringing in Dungy since he was fired in Tampa for not being able to bring them to the next level. A little hypocritical there. Maybe Tony should be worried on preventing his other son from committing suicide.

Oh they hypocrisy. When McDaniels looks to trade Cutler, the mantra was, "its a business." But now when Marshall holds out because for the same reason (i.e. its a business) and people still defend the regime that hasnt proven squat yet.

                                Unbelievable.
