    Re: Washington Redskins Official Thread

I think that Shanny can do good things, but given our draft situation this year. Limited picks. Where does he spend them. Right now we need in no particular order. Athletic 3-4 ILB, 3-4 "Coverage" OLB A "Tall, physical WR" (Not named Malcolm Kelly), OT, C, 3-4 NT, FS, Younger talent at OG, a 3-4 DE that can hold the edge against the strong side.

That is atleast off the top of my head. Acording to this (http://www.draftinsiders.com/node/35) we are gonna lose 3rd and 4th round picks for McNabb and Jamal Brown. So that is 5 picks with none in the rounds where potential starters are found. So with the 1st and 2nd round picks we have to fill two huge holes. I know that trading down is an option, but looking at it right now skins have 5 picks of 7, and three of those 5,6,7th rounders.

So basically it will be Shanny's 3rd draft before he can really turn the roster over completely. Assuming there is no work stoppage.

So I was at BWI flying down to Orlando for a vacation at Disney World with the GF. I walk into the bar for my traditional pre-flight drink and who do I see?

It gets better. We are flying southwest, so who do I end up sitting across the isle from? Yep Lavarr. I only talked to him briefly, first about Chad Dukes going off on the raidio following the Eagles game, then then a Dallas fan said something and we both kinda clowned him about how Lavarr "retired" Troy Aikman. Pretty cool.

That's cool, real cool...Lavar who I thought was wasted talent, should've been better then he was, could put that on coaches if you want. 3 things stands out to me when somebody mention Lavar, 1.Troy Aikman last game, the INT vs the Panters that turned our season around, and the Sean Taylor funeral speech he gave.

Shanny was right all along. McNabb really doesn't have a grasp of this offense. Rex looked much more relaxed back there. You could see him going through his progressions.

McNabb is better in the two minute though.

                Re: Washington Redskins Official Thread

Are you serious? Rex looked just like he did in Chicago. He's got a big arm that he trusts too much which can allow for good games and bad. McNabb's skill set doesn't fit just any offense which is a fair reason to get someone else but consider: a)that's the same reason they got rid of Campbell (how about making an offense that fits the personnel you have); and b)everyone knew what McNabb's strengths were before they gave up so much to get him.

Grossman's "good" game still wasn't as good as other games McNabb had this year so I can't say I buy it. He lost a close game... same thing the Skins have done all year. And this isn't a pro McNabb rant. Coming into this season there was optimism in a team expected to win 7 or 8 games, and this coaching staff turned all of that into disaster even with the same number of wins expected (they probably won't reach 7 but still). You can't turn over half the team, bring in a vet QB and go through 5 RBs and a patch work oline and say "run this offense" without accounting for the personnel. Correction, you CAN do that if you're also accepting not getting great results for a couple of years.

                  Re: Washington Redskins Official Thread

Yeah, I'm not ready to say that McNabb's "lack of playbook knowledge" is the reason that our offense has struggled. I mean you could look at the Moss drop, (something that has happened a lot since the buy) as the point the game changed. The early int which was one of the uglier throws I've seen all season. Lead directly to 7 points. His lack of arm strength on the throw to Armstrong. (AA was wide open running down the middle of the field and had to come back and jump for the ball.) We got the 7 but you cant miss on easy ones like that. All game long he looked "panicked" in the pocket. That could come from it being his first real game action in a few years. Not to mention we a lack of production at the WR position. AA and Moss are doing a good job, but who is the 3rd WR and why is Cooley absent for long stretches of the game. We finally have shown some conistancy in the running game which should help.

That said, I got the feeling that Rex was more comfortable with the offense and the progressions, which is to be expected. McNabb was on one scheme for 11 years with terminology and audible and protections that he has been with since he was a rookie. There is going to be some growing pains with a move to a new scheme. Look at Farve with J-E-T-S. The thing with McNabb that soured me on him wasn't his lack of playbook knowledge, it was the throws in the dirt and at the feet of wide open receivers and the overthrows of similarly wide open recievers.

I'm pretty sure that the skins will try to trade away McNabb for picks to the Vikings. Hopefully they can get a 4th and something else, because I feel that McNabb's value has taken a bit of a hit.

Oh and another thing, this new punter is garbage. From the game book.

4 punts, 39.5 yard avg, 26 yard net

Yep I agree. Personally i like to compare him more to McNair than McNabb. McNair struggled with the Ravens offense both his years in Baltimore. The D and running game were dominant though, so not many noticed. In close games in the 4th, he'd go off script and show great leadership but he struggled for 3 qtrs just about every game. It should've been expected that he'd struggle a bit this year. With the way this was handled, they'd be REAL lucky if they get a 4th.

                        Re: Washington Redskins Official Thread

Almost forgot, his inaccuracy is legit but I think too much is made of the "throws in the dirt". I honestly believe that many times this is a way of throwing the ball away. Now sometimes I think it's trying to put the ball where only the WR can get it and missing the target, but in both cases it isn't as big of an issue as people have been making it. Over his career he hasn't thrown many ints and I think this "style" is part of the reason why.

I also think his injuries (hammy?) have effected his accuracy a lot this year, and when it was already one of his weaknesses and he was forced to operate in an offense full of intermediate pass plays, it just made it all look worse.

Refs continue to suck. I still don't understand how that first challenge wasn't overturned. What was the ref's explanation?

I guess it doesn't matter since Shanny and Son don't seem to care about Ws right now.
