    Re: 2KHS v0.7 (Nov 2019 release)

Yeah, I think higher passes are fine, but the regular low pass should be more faster, snapier and also less tape to tape.

Shots should be more wider and organic too. Have you noticed how in every hockey game out there you almost can't miss the net or shoot really high?

They always "force" you to shot on the net, no matter how extreme with aiming you are.

I wanna change that and give a player that freedom to do whatever he like. Be really good with shooting/passing or really bad. Now it's always kinda samey and dumped down, not just in this game.

Skating is still VERY much wip...

use Ryochan7 fork of DS4Windows, it’s on github (sorry I’m not yet allowed to post a link by this website)

                  So I’m confused...

Work is continuing on another version (v0.8)?

What’s sort of the timeline on that?

I keep trying to figure out when I should circle back on this and spend the time to really try it out again in earnest..

                  A year from now?
                  Sooner? Still longer than that?

You can try the 0.7 build now, not sure what's confusing about that?

The 0.8 will be ready around the playoffs.

OK I will try that thank you.

What’s confusing is that it’s difficult to tell where this project is at any given moment because it’s been going on for years across multiple threads and a pulled installer in the past, etc, etc.

I don't know if this is something you can do anything about DJNEO, but it is too easy to loose assists on this game. In the real NHL they are normally quite forgiving when giving out assists on rebounds, pickups, bounces off opponents etc. often giving pts to the two last players touching the puck even though there might have been an opposing player touching the puck between them or if there has been extra passes between the last assist man and the goal scorer. On this game I often play games where I have twice as many goals as assists just because there was some small touch or something cancelling the assist. Do you know if it could be possible to make the game more forgiving?

I've been experimenting a little with the sliders today. Ended up changing shot power to 42, shot accuracy to 30 and pass accuracy to 30. That way a lot more shots end up outside of the goal and it is atleast possible to set up a powerplay sometimes. The powerplay often gets real problems due to the board issue, btw which can be frustrating. But perhaps I just need to practice more. I have speed and acceleration at 65, but that might be a little too much... The higher passing really helps the CPU, game got more challenging and the goals feel more random, atleast right now. Well, that's just what I am testing right now.

Hah why not, anything is possible with enough dedication I guess, but we have so many other more things to do before we get to something like stats.

I dug deeper to the skating engine I found there are quite a few lines of code that affects the motion model (not the animation)

For example you have some that affects skater controlling the puck during the glide animations (there are 4 glide animations) then you have 3 hustle puck/no puck animations.
Each one of them has a different value (float), many of them are in a favor of a skater with the puck, which is part of the bigger picture why there are so many breakaways.

So this needs fixing apart from the AI.

Then there is this annoying Ai obsession with the dekes. Many of them look really bad, especially if the defender is using them.

Then there is still not enough variety in where/how is the AI taking the shots. As you said they are almost all going to net.

Next thing, did you noticed how a player can always hustle? Never gets tired or really loose stamina?
                            This needs fixing.

These awful "karate kid" sounds if a player slash the other guy, or fall to ice or while making a hit. That needs fixing.

These little cheats when ai or human wants to hit a guy or stick lift from a bad position, how it suck the other player, no matter how far he is, to the animation. That is totally unrealistic, looks awful and need fixing.

Some goalies animations still runs in double speed for some reason... so that needs fixing too, before we look into imprecise stats

Low passes are too slow and way too tape to tape. That's another important task...

Usually, in a hockey videogames, the puck gets sucked into the goalie equipment (pads, catcher etc.)

In this game now the puck stays free unless the goalie perfectly*covers it.

                                Re: 2KHS v0.7 (Nov 2019 release)

When we're into pointing out flaws in the game animations. Players turn too quick when puck are behind them compared to skating and other animations (they turn like crazy and look kind of glitchy sometimes) some puck reception animations when they kind of stand still gliding and put their stick out looks bad, when you miss a stick lift or similar players are stuck in the animation way too long, which just looks redicilous and the player also gets way out of position due to this.

I doubt it will be possible to make it completely perfect, I guess it must be a compromise where you can get the flow of the game, animations etc feel good and like they fit together. It is still a 10 year old game you are tinkering with and you are doing a great job.

Id really like a little better control of turning again though. The AI does not understand he can't turn as quick anymore and ends up running face first into the boards, loosing the puck due to the collision detection. Another thing (probably not doable) would be cool if it was possible to make players kind of turn their backs toward the boards when they get too close to them if you know what I mean to avoid situations when they run face first into them. Perhaps something lika an auto press of the reverse skating button when at the boards. Don't know how that'd work though...
