Will be interesting to see how Lou tries to replace Parise. Semin is still their obviously, and even with the Devils being more offensive-minded under DeBeor I still don't see Lou making a big push towards him since I don't think he'd want 2 all offense/no defense wingers in his top 6.

They did already give Salvador a questionable deal when they had 6 defenseman under contract so who knows what ends up happening.

Whoa. When I turned on The Score this morning, I just saw this flash by on the ticker "...sign Zach Parise and Ryan Suter to identical 13 year/98M contracts" and just assumed it was the Wings.

Between this, Jordan Staal to Carolina, and Justin Schultz to Edmonton, it's been a big week for small market teams (aside from poor Nashville, of course). Congrats to Wild fans; you guys deserve better than the dreck you've had to endure over the last decade. That being said, feel free to get the hell out of my division any time now.

Detroit and New Jersey should just shut the door on a bad ufa crop this year and make do. Getzlaf, Perry, Hartnell, Enstrom, Weiss, Horton, Clowe, and some other decent names could potentially hit the market. Remains to be seen who will re-up with their current club in the next year, but there should at least be some more decent pieces available next summer.

Definitely a good move for the NHL.

The free agents have been spread out pretty nicely among teams so far.

Even "losing teams" like Dallas, Edmonton, Carolina, and now, Minnesota have gotten some big deals.

Poor Nashville. Becoming a farm for other teams looking for already-developed NHL defensemen. Let the war between Detroit and Philly for Weber commence.

Agreed minus Detroit though, sending him to Detroit would be a move they would regret for a long time unless they really make them overpay.

January 1, 2014. NHL Winter Classic at Target Field in Minneapolis. Minnesota Wild v. Chicago Blackhawks. EarlyPredictions

Ordinarily, I'd think it pretty unlikely the NHL would want back-to-back West-based Winter Classics, but NBC's desire to hype the 2014 Winter Olympics (assuming NHL players are still involved) works in Minnesota's favour.

In that case, Caps & Rangers would probably host the Bruins and mystery team X (Kings? Blues? Anybody but Sid?) in 2015 & 16.

I'm going to have to agree with Detroit being a bad choice. Poile *should* know better, especially after losing Toots to them. Though, Poile hasn't exactly shown an ability to keep big names on his roster either, as we learned today.

Poor Nashville, but Minnesota is gonna be GOOD this year.

Does anyone really care where I sent this from?

@JayOnrait: But how would Heatley know? RT @DarrenDreger: Heatley spoke with Suter and swapped texts with Parise. Both asked: can we win. Answer: yes.

Not getting max value for Weber would be worse. Gotta involve the Wings to at least drive the price up.

That's gonna be some crazy **** up there.
