Re: The Official NHL 2012 Off-Season Thread

This has to kill Poile. Suter told him he would give the Preds an offer to match and didn't. After failing to lock up Weber last summer, to trading a bunch of picks at the deadline and bringing back Radulov only to mess up the team's chemistry... this has been a really rough year for Poile.

Weber needs to be signed or traded. We can't allow this to happen again.

My favorite parts were their math (98+98=180) and calling them greedy when they both could have gotten a larger deals elsewhere, but wanted to be closer to family.

So in addition to weak and unoriginal, we can add unintelligent. Oh well, the maker of that clearly didn't watch during the Eric Daze years. I also wonder if they remember how their team backed into the playoffs two seasons ago. I mean it wasn't THAT long ago.

Please don't judge Blackhawks fans by the idiot who posted that nonsense. Unfortunately in this day and age there are fans like that in most cities. Also, it was very unoriginal and stupid.

And I'd be very surprised if that person knows Eric Daze.

You don't have to worry about anyone doing that around here. The comments on the post were hilarious. Even Hawks fans were bashing it.

Yes I know. I don't have a Facebook account so I didn't see any of the responses.

Super late on this but I'm glad Parise and Suter decided on Minnesota together. A great hockey market like that deserves better than what they've gotten for the past decade.

However, now I don't know if I want re-alignment to include the Jets and Wild in the same division.

I wouldn't be as concerned about the division alignment as much as whether or not there is going to be an NHL season.

There will be. Won't start on time, though.

My prediction: regular season will consist of 54-62 games, start around US Thanksgiving (no later than mid-Dec). There'll be some posturing and dicking around, but too many owners are making too much money right now. They might squeeze a little more $$$ out of the players (54-55% of revenues instead of the current 57%) and lower the cap floor a bit, but they'll have to give something back in return.

Free Center Ice for the shortened season to all the loyal fans that they'll be screwing over for the 2nd time in less than a decade. Or we riot*.

Glad Parise is out of the division.

Still don't want any part of a Rick Nash trade.

Good for Minnesota, kind of a strikeout for the Wings...but maybe it's a good thing for Detroit in the long run. Sure, right now we're holding a bag of cash with no one to throw it at, but maybe we'll make some less-flashy (but ultimately equally or more beneficial) moves instead of locking us in to 2 huge contracts for the next decade. As I've mentioned before, no matter who it is, I'm not a huge fan of the decade-long contract. Not that I'm minimizing our strike-out, it's just time to move on.

NHL season will start on-time, I think. I think things are going fairly well on both sides, and there's nothing to gain either way by labor unrest. Of course, never underestimate the idiocy of all involved, but I feel like they'll hammer something out at the 11th hour. Agree w/ Doc's analysis of what will happen, although I would like to see some limitation on contract length as well (yes, we went over this a few pages back...but just saying "GM's shouldn't give long contracts" denies the realities of the economic paradigm: it's a cartel economy, with finances, incentives, and instabilities that act accordingly).

As long as Fehr is involved all bets are off.

Besides, the Wild have to pay the Minnesota franchise tax. I'll take 2 month delay over career threatening injury to one of the new signings.

As his agent reveals, defenseman Kevin Porter has signed with the Buffalo Sabres.

Since when did Kevin Porter become a Defensemen I was hoping he goes to Detroit so he can be with his buddy Quincey.

One of the worst players in the NHL. Should be in the AHL or 14th forward in NHL.
