That opening "announcement" by the ref before the center ice puck drop for the Pens/Flyers was cringe worthy. What in THE hell was that?
"Stay safe"? Do we really need to hear this even at a hockey game? Just shut up already and let's play and show the sport that you're paid to do.Comment

Sharks up on the Coyotes 2-0 after the first period. Both goals came from Tomas Hertl.
Also, I learned tonight that Patrick Marleau is 44 games away from having played the most regular season games of all-time.
Gordie Howe- 1767
Mark Messier- 1756
Jaromir Jagr- 1733
Ron Francis- 1731
Patrick Marleau- 1724Boston Red Sox

Re: The Official 2020-2021 Season Talk Thread
This is why back to backs will be especially fun this year.
Canucks beat Oilers 5-3 on night 1, McDavid with 0 points, 6 penalties and 37 hits between the teams.
Very next night, Oilers win 5-2, McDavid has a hat trick, 9 penalties, 61 hits, 2 game misconducts.
I expect we'll see a fair amount of instances like this where back to backs have diff results.
In a normal season, this is something I've been hoping for too. We know teams hate back to backs, fans especially hate it when their team has to play the 2nd night of a back to back against a team who didnt play the night before. Back to backs vs the same team would level the playing field and carry over any bad blood from night 1 into night 2.Last edited by Majingir; 01-15-2021, 09:38 AM.Comment

Oilers won't be happy about this.
They lost Forsberg on waivers to the Canes. He stayed in Edmonton the whole time. The Canes then put him back on waivers. So if Oilers claimed him back, they can continue their original plan to send him to the taxi squad, except now without going through waivers.
Only issue? Jets claimed him.Comment

Kaprisov hype train is already full speed around here. 3rd player in history to score in OT on their debut. Apparently he looked amazing.Comment

Laine upset he didnt get the Gordie Howe hat trick.
A rarity nowadays, but I never get why they even called it this. Not like Gordie Howe was known for getting a goal, assist AND fight in the same game.
The all time leader in this category is Shanahan, and he only did it 17 times in his career. Howe had 2.Comment

Re: The Official 2020-2021 Season Talk Thread
Is the fake crowd noise up to the home team/arena or the broadcast?
Sens have barely any crowd. 0 background noise, only some buttons almost like a studio audience that'll react to the home team moments.
They did team intros, and when they introduced the Leafs, they didnt troll with some cheesy intro music, or have lots of boos. They simply had silence. Nothing else, just silence.
That's worse than boos. You can enjoy boos as a rival. Silence is horrible.Comment

"Although he played a record 2,421 professional hockey games, Gordie Howe himself only achieved two "Gordie Howe hat tricks" in his NHL career.
The all-time leaders in Gordie Howe hat tricks are Rick Tocchet with 18 and Brendan Shanahan (who would later become the NHL's chief disciplinarian) with 17. Next is Brian Sutter with 16, then Tiger Williams and Wilf Paiement with 15 each. The active leaders are Capitals defenseman*Zdeno Chara*and Leafs forward*Joe Thornton*with five."

Tocchets numbers include playoffs though, Shanahan has regular season mark.
2 games in, Leafs have been far from playing the level fans have hoped for.
Some more crazy results. Blues beat Avs 4-1 on Wednesday. Friday was the rematch. Avs won 8-0!Last edited by Majingir; 01-16-2021, 01:43 AM.Comment
