Only thing that seems weird is how it's not consistent.

Theres an instance where Leafs play Edmonton one day in Edmonton, get a day off, play them again the next day, and the very next day they travel to Calgary to play the flames.

Why couldn't it just be back to back vs Oilers, day off, then play Flames?

Leafs win 2nd game of year. Campbell as the backup has been better than Andersen so far. Wouldn't be opposed to more starts for now (especially given Andersens horrible starts to every season). Leafs still giving up too many good chances though. They need to get it together asap.

And its great having HNIC back. 11 months it's been gone! Outside of 04/05 lockout, I haven't gone this long without it (and even then, they at least aired hit movies every Saturday as the replacement, which was more special back then in the pre streaming days).

Speaking of their next game...when will it happen? Jets status unknown for Mondays game, and they have to fly to Toronto tomorrow, so we'll see if it happens.

Now this is weird and shocking.

        Leafs waived Spezza.

He's played in all 3 games so far this season and went 10 for 10 from the faceoff circle last night.

But his agent said if any team claims him, he's gonna opt to retire over join their team. So looks like Leafs doing this move to get some roster flexibility. Spezza clearing waivers lets them put him on the taxi Squad and not have to go through waivers again, unlike most other guys on their team.

Looking at the Calgary vs Vancouver game last night it looked pretty obvious it wasn't a smart move by Vancouver letting their MVP (Markstrom) and their best shot blocker (Tanev) go to Calgary.

Both were great and Vancouver looked like a bottom team.

Will be interesting to see if they can bounce back and it is still early in the season but Holtbys stats are already looking like they did last season while Markstrom will probably be even better now that he actually has a team that can play defense infront of him.

Another thing bugging me is Hoglander getting top six exposure and top minutes while they couldnt even give Dahlen a chance when he was in the organisation.

Perhaps another north team should aquire him just to have him retire to give Toronto some headache... :P

              Theres 2 scenarios here

              1. He doesn't get claimed and moves to Leafs taxi Squad and stays on team.

              2. He gets claimed, wants to retire, the team waives him for the purpose of releasing him, and Leafs claim him and he ends up on the taxi Squad.

Edit- Plan worked. Nobody claimed Spezza. Leafs lost Dell on waivers to the Devils though. Devils now have 3 goalies on their roster along with Comrie who they also picked up on waivers.

I'm sure the Leafs will go after a goalie should another one hit the waiver wire.

Jets with a weird schedule this week. Leafs on Monday, then Sens on Tuesday,Thursday,Saturday, then Oilers Sunday and Tuesday.

The question here...why cant they play the Oilers Monday and Tuesday, and Sens Wednesday,Friday, Saturday?

Instead they're playing 2 back to backs in a weeks span, with diff opponents both times when it was easily doable to face the same team in back to backs.

Halfway into this game, Hyman has 8 shots, Jets have 11.

These games feel like a TV show.

You have the full show and all, great moments during the episode, but then the final few minutes leads to moments which builds up the next one.

Leafs vs Jets ending another example of that with Pionk getting mad at Marner. And Marners response to it..."Who cares. We won."

After the second Calgary game for Vancouver I feel like the Canucks could actually end up to be worst in the north. Atm they lack a quality keeper and they don't have enough character. I know it is early but it is also a short season. Their offseason moves hasn't been a success so far imo.

Unfortunately, this is the price one pays when albatross contracts are given out to 4th liners and bottom pairing D-men. There should have been money available to pay two of Markstrom, Tanev, and Toffoli, but... The Canucks' best hope for the next few years is that Pettersson/Hughes can be convinced to take bridge deals instead of Matthews/Marner capbreakers, and that Jimbo's remarkable competence in the draft can outshine his remarkable incompetence in free agency.
