More details coming out about Leafs move with Spezza.

It means the Leafs lower their daily cap hit on non gamedays with Spezza being on the taxi squad. He's apparently making MORE money as well since those players dont have to pay escrow (I still have no idea what escrow is lol, neither do players).

This all means come later in the season, Leafs will have more money available if they want to call up more guys, sign/claim someone, or make a trade.

So basically they found a loophole in the cap system, thanks to having the guy who wrote the rulebook working for them, all while having a guy who could've just refused playing for a team if they claimed him on waivers, so Leafs were able to do this move risk free.

Gilman. Stealth MVP of the Canucks' Luongo/Sedins era.

Oilers playing their first road game since March!

Leafs haven't played outside the province yet until this upcoming weekend when they go to Calgary.

Caps in big trouble. 100k fine for violating protocols, and now Ovechkin,Kuznetsov, Orlov,Samsonov all on Covid protocol list for who knows how long.

Blues going to OT for the first time this year.

I don't really feel like the OT loser point serves much purpose in this format. It just generates a 3rd point that IMO shouldn't be awarded for losing a divisional game.

It kinda made sense for interconference games prior to the pandemic (and for the sake of keeping the rules the same league-wide I didn't take real issue with it even in conference/divisional games), but I just don't see the point when all of the games are between division rivals.

This season especially will see one or more teams make playoffs simply because they have more loser points.

26-19-11 team will be better than a 30-24-2 team

Yep. To be fair, 3 of their D-men have a combined 7 games of NHL experience, and one of the others is Tyler Myers.

But also: last year was a bit of a mirage. They were a terrible defensive team that made it work because Markstrom (and very briefly, Demko) were brilliant and their top 6 can really snipe when they get the opportunity. Their playoff run was a lot of fun (for me), but getting outshot 40-25 every night and winning anyway isn't exactly the path to long-term success. Game 4 against the Wild was the last time Vancouver outshot an opponent. Tonight is 19 games in a row being outshot.

Oh, and Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko combined are making less than 3M this year, and all are RFA in the summer. Good times, good times.

Big news. NBCSN shutting down at end of the year.

This impacts NHL more than probably anyone else. Wonder how this impacts a new tv deal.

They're moving hockey over to USA network, apparently.

Hard to believe they can find room in the schedule between all those episodes of "Law & Order" they are contractually obligated to fit into any given 24 hour period...

The NHL will now reach 6 million more homes in the US with the change, so that's something.

They reach more people, but how many will realize NHL is on USA? Will we suddenly see NHL ads during WWE Raw lol.

People are saying NHL on USA, but if NHLs tv deal is expiring after this season, and NBCSN is shutting down at the end of the year, wouldn't NHL be able to get a new deal elsewhere?

ESPN/FOX would be best scenario for regular games, with NBC main network games on Sunday still.

                          Another interesting story in hockey.

Dubois will be a healthy scratch tomorrow.

Rumors heating up about a deal. Could it be Winnipeg?

Laine,Roslovic for Dubois+ is what I read from fans. Maybe someone like Foudy or picks?

You understand NBC owns USA right? If the NHL were to retain rights with NBC past this year it would still include USA.

And to your first point, people don't just come across hockey games. They seek them out. Regardless of what network they are on the people who watch hockey will find them just fine.

Do you think people see an advertisement for a random hockey game and make a note to tune into that game?

That's what I'm saying though. People saying NHL will be on USA, but that's only IF NHL signs a new deal with NBC.

It would help NHL more if they were on ESPN or FOX over USA.

In your post that I quoted you talked about NHL still being on NBC. That's what I was responding to.

I would be shocked to see Fox or ESPN interested in a deal with the NHL to be honest. I wouldn't mind it, the more the merrier, but it really doesn't make a lot of sense for either network at this point.
