Well if you put it that way. The pandemic will play a role in this aswell. How will the next season look? If it's the same as this year they will still have a hard time. If they get put with more weak US teams again they will look stronger. Also the grind of an 82 game schedule is something else... You will have more easy games if you have the offensive firepower they still do. I'd imagine their point % would raise again.
However my point is even though they are tanking they need to DEVELOP the top players they already have. That's more important than getting one or two gambling picks that may or may not work out. It's currently very hard to imagine people actually compared Pettersson to Gretzky (more or less seriously but still) during his first like 20 games in the league when you watch him play now. He dominated those first games with speed and creativity. Now he is just waiting for the puck at the boards on the blue line. A good coach should do something about this.
Boeser is the same. He has started decent this year though and has had misfortune with injuries but I don't see extremely much development in his play. He still gives away too much easy pucks by taking unnecessary high risk plays for example in my opinion.
Quinn Hughes is great offensively but his defense has a lot to improve at the moment and I'm not even sure he realizes that himself.

They have great potential in the team. They need to treat these assets the best way possible not just let them play on and fall into the "decent player" slots. I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see much development under Green right now. I think it's just basically more of the same every game...
