Well if you put it that way. The pandemic will play a role in this aswell. How will the next season look? If it's the same as this year they will still have a hard time. If they get put with more weak US teams again they will look stronger. Also the grind of an 82 game schedule is something else... You will have more easy games if you have the offensive firepower they still do. I'd imagine their point % would raise again.

However my point is even though they are tanking they need to DEVELOP the top players they already have. That's more important than getting one or two gambling picks that may or may not work out. It's currently very hard to imagine people actually compared Pettersson to Gretzky (more or less seriously but still) during his first like 20 games in the league when you watch him play now. He dominated those first games with speed and creativity. Now he is just waiting for the puck at the boards on the blue line. A good coach should do something about this.

Boeser is the same. He has started decent this year though and has had misfortune with injuries but I don't see extremely much development in his play. He still gives away too much easy pucks by taking unnecessary high risk plays for example in my opinion.

Quinn Hughes is great offensively but his defense has a lot to improve at the moment and I'm not even sure he realizes that himself.

They have great potential in the team. They need to treat these assets the best way possible not just let them play on and fall into the "decent player" slots. I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see much development under Green right now. I think it's just basically more of the same every game...

NHLs hope is that next season goes back to normal. Maybe not full fans, but at the very least they can play normal divisions again.

Not sure they could even do the same divisions as this year if you have 9 in one division with Seattle added and another with only 7.

Speaking of that 7 team division, Sens are showing you what happens when you underestimate your opponent.

Beat the Flames 6-1 after just having back to back wins vs the Habs, and that whole thing with the Leafs last Monday.

Perhaps Seattle will have to run their first season in a different canadian city as the Quebec Kraken?

Good news for the Leafs, Campbell is back.

          Bad news, Matthews is out.

It does go to show you the difference between Leafs and Oilers. Oilers without McDavid probably win another draft lottery. Leafs without Matthews still have shots to win games.

Matthews has been dealing with a wrist injury all season long. Hope it's not something that gets worse.

The Leafs are reminding me of the Raptors last season. They could still win so many games despite really not having many games for the entire season where every player is in the lineup.

Leafs have Matthews out, Oilers have Mike Smith in net, McDavid is healthy, Campbell plays his first game in a month, and Leafs win 4-0?!

Maybe Jack Campbell has a future as a starter afterall? I know Andersen is still their #1 guy, but it's not unusual at all to see a team go into a season with a #1, and gets usurped by the backup before the season is done. Especially in this case where Andersen is a UFA. If Leafs find his replacement, that saves 4-5m next year alone.

Ride the hot goalie, especially as Leafs slowly start thinking big picture with the playoffs. An Andersen weak goal 4 minutes into a playoff game could change the momentum of an entire series.

A this rate, Kaprisov is going to run away with the Calder Trophy. He is the real deal.

                Dollar Bill Kirill!

It's much more different nowadays to see such a big late round steal because these international talents don't usually slip like they used to, but talk about a steal.

If he continues on this pace in his career, he could crack a top 10 player in that insane 2015 draft where a guy like Barzal isn't even a top 5 pick even after a draft redo.

Speaking of drafts, I feel like the last decade, 1st overall picks haven't been as big. Besides the 3 Ms (MacKinnon, McDavid and Matthews) I don't think any other 1st pick since 2010 has been considered for sure the best guy of the draft. Maybe we were just spoiled with the class from 04-10 where everyone minus Erik Johnson is a future hall of famer.

Yeah, when I saw him play in the World Juniors, I was wondering how the hell he was picked that late. It was apparent then that he was going to be good. Then he went out and led the KHL in goals...twice.

                    It's been worth the wait.

I guess teams were probably just afraid he'd never come over.

From the 4th round and beyond, I think those picks are worth it. The high risk, high reward types.

Leafs with back to back games with no Matthews. What do they do? Win both games with back to back shutouts! Outscoring Oilers 7-0!

Game ends with a fight as well! 10 total penalties (these North division refs LOVE calling penalties).

Flames are really falling fast. Been outscored 14-8 in 3 games vs the Sens with 2 losses. Gone 3-6-1 in their last 10. Slowly starting to see separation in the North. Leafs at 1, Oilers,Jets,Habs in the 2-4 spots. 5th seed Flames are only a point behind, but have played 3 more games, so they could really be several points back if all teams had same number of games played.

Flames seem to be very much like nucks were last year. Very dependent on a certain Markstrom...

Nylander scores points when he gets to play PP. Back in the early days when he had about as much ice time as Matthews and Marner he scored most PP points of the bunch.

Funny how he has 4+1 in the last three games and he gets rewarded by less and less ice time. Last three games ice time for him: 16:19, 13:51, 13:25... Someone doesn't want him to score too much. 🤣

                            Another reverse retro night tonight.

Wings jersey looks so plain, almost like a practice jersey.

Marleau is wearing a retro jersey, which was new when he first wore it.

And the Wild healthy scratch Parise. That deal and Suters is now in the stage where it going to be hurting the Wild.

Guys who'll be under contract until they're 40, 7.5m cap hit, NMC.

Devon Toews is really good, which means he's gonna be the next player to get injured for the Avs.
