Career high in 56 game seasons!

    Matthews is chasing 50 goals!

And McDavid is averaging 2 points per game! If he keeps that pace up, he'll get over 100pts, which would be the highest points per game average since before he was even born! If he gets 65pts in his final 43 games, he'll have the modern era record set by Crosby 10 years ago.

The North division is exactly what the NHL needs to be like. This is almost like 80s hockey in the modern era. High scoring games, superstars going off every night.

It's easy to say this because the Leafs are winning, but this season has been so much fun to watch. Take note NHL.

Yes every division needs an Ottawa and a Vancouver that they can run over on a regular basis.

One of the good points they made on the broadcast last night is that because Vancouver has played so many games (a league high 15 after last night) and due to travel, they've had little practise time to work on all their defensive issues.

The Canucks are still a train wreck but that's an interesting issue.

Going into the season, I thought this might be the toughest division in hockey. But it's pretty clear it's the easiest with Ottawa and Vancouver destined to share the basement.

Another reason Sens suck. A rebuilding team gave up a 2nd pick for Stepan just over a month ago. Now they're looking to deal him because he wants to go closer to home (Wild would be likely destination).

Will Sens even get a 2nd round pick back for him? Likely not. So they'll turn a 2nd round pick into something worse in a 2 month span.

Even in non Canucks and Sens games you get high scoring games.

5-4 Leafs vs Habs to start season, a bunch of 4-3 games, 6-4 Flames vs Oilers game just last night.

We're at another season where the league average is above 3 goals a game. Last time we had 3 straight seasons of 3 goals per game average was the early 90s.

McDavid would not be averaging 2pts per game if he didn't have the Ottawa game where he had five or six or what it was. Those early nineties seasons had expansion teams that sucked aswell, San Jose, Ottawa, Anaheim, Tampa all had tough first seasons. A less even league make it easier for the stars to have nice stats.

Yes we see that clearly Montreal is the only canadian team that actually have a defense. Calgary kind of does but many games look like they did for Vancouver last year that Markström bail them out. That keeper is insanely underrated imo which shows in Vancouver now.

Toronto have no defense. Edmonton does not. Vancouver doesn't. Ottawa have no NHL caliber offense or defense.

But I agree offensive hockey is much more entertaining so yes North is the funnest division right now.

But this is rarely the type of hockey that win the cup. I wish it did.

Simmonds playing like his Philly self.

Now he's hurt and looks like he's out until March at the earliest!

Injuries piling up less than a month in. Simmonds,Thornton,Robertson,Dermott,Campbell all out for the Leafs. That's more than a quarter of their roster.

It's not easy being 32+ and playing a schedule like this.

After 2 periods, Caps had more than double the shots of the Flyers, and Ovechkin had 2 goals.

                  So the Flyers won 7-4.

It's not the schedule which led to the injury, he blocked a shot.

Leafs signed Sabourin to a deal just as some extra depth. Because it's a Canadian market, this next part will be all the talk of the media. Sabourin was the subject of a moment I think last season when Matthews got into an argument on the ice with, and Matthews looked over Sabourins shoulder to see what his name was because he had no idea who that guy was.

                  They're now teammates.

Completely crazy situation yesterday in the Columbus-Carolina game.

Carolina scored. Columbus asked for a replay because they thought it was offside. Columbus was correct but the goal stood. From Sportsnet:

"Instead, during the play review, a miscommunication between the replay booth, the linesmen and the NHL's Situation Room took place, leading to play resuming before all replays were reviewed to confirm the off-side. The goal stood and Columbus was assessed a delay of game penalty. During the second intermission, it was confirmed that the play was indeed off-side and the remaining 45 seconds of the penalty were rescinded -- but the goal was never revoked."

                    Beyond bizarre.

I'm old enough to remember the George Brett pine tar review which led to the game being replayed from the time of the incident. If ever there was a NHL game that should do the same thing this is it.

So they're blaming a new trainee for the cause of the problem, and rhey claim there was no precedent to use, so why couldn't they just set one?

Should we be surprised the league has no idea what they're doing?

Or that they leave some major task like that up to a new employee who probably wasn't even trained properly, because that's how many companies treat new employees.

Canucks with a brutal looking (doesn't sound as bad as it looks) injury.

Hoglander gets a puck shot at his visor. The second it happens, it looks like a crime scene splat. His entire visor is covered in red.

From what they said, sounds like it was just the impact of the visor hitting the face which caused it, hopefully nothing serious.

The Bryan Berard injury decades back is always the one I found most brutal looking (of all I've seen as it happened). Thankfully we have visors mandatory nowadays.

                        Edit
Hoglander returned to the game, with a cut and bump the size of a golf ball!

Blues currently in the 4th game of what will be a "series" of 6 consecutive games against the Coyotes due to all the rescheduling.

So I guess any game featuring a Tkachuk is leading to some fighting.

Sens and Oilers with 2 fights back to back. 26 total PIM in the first!

The more I listen to some hockey reporters, the more it sounds like the league wants to replicate this kind of action in the future. 2 games in the same city being one possible option.

If you're talking about visiting fans going over, it could make things more appealing. If you're getting Leafs playing a 4 game road trip in Florida, 2 vs Panthers, 2 vs Lightning, dont you think you could draw some visiting fans to go for multiple games since they're already down there? Especially in some situations where you time it too, like having those Florida road trips for Canadian teams and north east teams being either during Christmas time or March break/ST season.

                              Leafs win an ugly game.

7 shots TOTAL after 2 periods! Canucks put up over 30 shots.

But 2 goals in 11 seconds and Leafs SWEEP the Canucks in this 3 game series! First team to 10 wins.

Matthews with 11 goals in 12 games, 5 goals in 3 vs the Canucks.

Torts already benching Laine. Anyone willing to give up one or two 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd to sign Laine in a few months?

Höglander is the only somewhat positive surprise on the nucks in my opinion.
