They probably will find some magic way to put one or both on LTIR. The Leafs showed better than anyone how to abuse that. They dumped Clarkson for LTIR Horton, then later on got LTIR Clarkson in a deal where they took on a 4th round pick to do so.Comment

We have an Elliott Friedman goal in the NHL! It finally happened!
By that, I mean Friedman of the Pens scored on Elliott of the Flyers. It's his first career goal.
It was funny enough having a guy named Friedman in the NHL, and Elliotte Friedman mentioning the "Friedman to Pens" transaction that happened just days after his fellow SN analyst Brian Burke joined the Pens. But now having Friedman scoring on Elliott was the icing on the cake.
The internet sure having fun with that one.Comment

What's going on in Buffalo?
Players obviously won't say it, but seems like some think Hall won't re-sign with them, and Eichel could be wanting out (although Sabres came out and said he hasn't asked for a deal...which we all know what that means)
I could see Hall winding up in Calgary.
As for Eichel, where would he go?
Skinner having the worst contract ever, Hall leaving and Eichel could want out? Sounds bad all around in Buffalo.
If Eichel does want out, I wonder who could even offer the most for him. If Laine doesn't want to stay in Columbus, but being a RFA, could we see something like a sign and trade of sorts?Comment

Patrick Kane playing in game #1000 tonight.
His 3 cups by time he was 26 is such an impressive feat, but it's also strange to think his career since then has actually been better (regular season wise).
People talking about who's the greatest US born player ever. Modano seems to be #1 for many. So far I'd agree, but if Kane ends up playing until his late 30s as well and surpasses Modano in points, I'd say Kane tops him. Also, dont join Detroit for 1 final random half season.
And speaking of games played, Thornton is about to tie Chelios for 7th in games. He's 3 away from being 6th all time.
And Marleaus all time record for games played has him reaching that mark in late April vs Vegas.Comment

This reminds me, I haven't updated my "Most Cursed NHL Franchises" list in a while.
The only argument for the Sabres here is if you include the Bills or compare living in Buffalo vs Vancouver. If you're just talking hockey fans for the last 50 years, the Canucks "win" this battle.
Nathan Lafayette wasn't even mentioned!
BTW, my current standings (the Blues and Caps having graduated in recent years):
1. Canucks
2. Sabres
3. Leafs
4. Flyers
5. Senators
6. SharksLast edited by DrJones; 03-11-2021, 04:21 PM.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Also if the Leafs had never gotten a #1 overall pick in their history. The Wild are the second-oldest franchise without a #1 pick or a Cup, and the Canucks have been around 30 years longer.
Number of playoff series wins since 1970:
Sabres 20
Leafs 19
Canucks 18
So the Canucks have fewer playoff wins, the worst regular season winning percentage of all 31 franchises, no #1 draft picks, AND the most excruciatingly close calls. (And attempted to burn down the city twice. And are perhaps the most hated franchise of the last 20 years.) I'm not sure there's another NHL franchise with a Messier/Keenan/Linden equivalent, either.Last edited by DrJones; 03-11-2021, 05:41 PM.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: The Official 2020-2021 Season Talk Thread
Leafs in the last week feel like a different team. Not sure what can be done, but something big needs to happen. Hope Simmonds is back soon.
Can't call yourself the top team in the division when your opponents goalie has vezina worthy games every night.
Speaking of Simmonds, the stretch coming up will help speed up the time before he returns.
After this weekend, Leafs have a stretch of 2 games in 10 days! Sucks to not have games, but also means they'll likely have games in hand on the other teams once that stretch is done.Last edited by Majingir; 03-11-2021, 10:00 PM.Comment
