The Rangers paid more for their statement than the Caps for tweeting "Violence".
Should play well in a courtroom near you where the NHL is fighting yet another claim they don't do enough to protect its players.

Is James Dolan about to go to war with the Old Boys club, both internally and externally? The only reason I say this is if the statement wasn’t put out by him, there would have been a detraction from the statement, which as of now there hasn’t been.

Edit: Chris Drury is the new President/GM of the Rangers.

Sounds like Dolan was not involved with the statement and JD & Gorton did everything they could to distance themselves from it.
I'm guessing Bettman went after Dolan, and Dolan used this as a last straw to fire Gorton and JD.

I assume the reason the maximum fine is only $5000 in the CBA is because the NHLPA argued for that to be the cap - I can't imagine the league would argue for any cap on fines it may levy players.

If the above is accurate, to me that implicates the players themselves - at least partially - in not taking player safety more seriously, not just the league office. Either that, or an influential minority in the NHLPA is undermining the rest of the players in service of protecting a handful of goons. It's certainly possible that the NHLPA is not representing the best interests of their constituency (it wouldn't be the first time a union hasn't put its member's well-being first...), and in this case, that appears to clearly be the case. Unless I'm missing something.
Tom Wilson is the player rep for the Capitals.
The system is rotten from both sides of the aisle.

Sadly they dont have the game on TV here (Habs vs Sens is on 6 diff channels though).

But from what I read, there's been 6 fights in 5 minutes!

And as I predicted, Rangers got game misconduct and TWO instigators for fighting with Wilson.

I wanna see this game! Checking out full highlights once someone posts them on YouTube. Those 3 minute sports recap highlights won't be enough.

I feel like if Dolan didn’t put out the statement, they would have had immediately come out and retracted it no?

100 plus penalty minutes in the first period, and Wilson along with Rooney got a misconduct for yapping during a TV timeout.

Friedman says they've been looking to change things up in NY for a while now. So those guys would've been gone by next week anyways.

People joked that because the Knicks are doing so well, Dolan had time to check in on his other asset so that's why he's suddenly involved in Rangers business.

Yeah its very weird for Dolan to involve himself in the Rangers. I’m a little concerned.

Hey jb - you and all Ranger fans should be very concerned. I have a feeling Dolan will treat the Rangers like he's treated the Knicks the past 20 years.

It’s safe to say that Kaprisov is already the best player the Wild have ever had.

I hope this is a sustained rivalry. It's been so long since there was a true blood rivalry in the NHL (or any sport, for that matter). It's unlikely to blossom into a Wings-Avalanche circa 1997-type rivalry, but if it even gets close, I'll be pretty excited to see it.

No surprise, Rangers fined 250k for the tweet.

Still waiting on Washington getting fined for tweeting their love of Violence.
If there was any doubt which side the NHL is on, this speaks volumes.

If only Leafs can play like this in the playoffs.

                              4-0 after 1.

Although...is it always a good thing in hockey to be up 3+ goals early?

See what you've done NHL? You've made me take Jim Dolan's side.

We all knew the fine was coming, and it actually does more to highlight the hypocrisy.
